I grew Up In Sheffield Ma.... I ran into Arlo alot Growing up...In Restauarants in Great Barrington ...And The Shed Back in the 80's Great Video Thanks for Sharing...
Greetings from Sydney, Australia and thank you so much for the video and information. My partner and I are visiting Boston in May and we are planning to visit Stockbridge just to see the sites related to the song "Alice's Restaurant".
How cool to see Arlo Guthrie walking out of the building like that! Looks like a beautiful town, you can see why Rockwell set up shop there so to speak. Loved seeing this! yet another place to add to an ever expanding list of places to visit :) I hope you and Bev both have a great day! 😆
Thanks Annie! So good to hear from you! This was one of the real highlights of the trip for me, and it was such a really lovely town. We both want to get back there again! Have a great day!! Paul
Thanks Ettore. It was a super nice place to visit! There are a lot of subtle references in this one that perhaps are not real evident. So glad you enjoyed this one. We have a lot more coming out from New England. Hope you're doing well, and have a wonderful day! Paul
I live about 100 miles away myself. I keep my membership as it gets me first shot at tickets to any show they have and they do have a lot of them. A lot of great performers come through like Jonathan Edwards, AJ Croce, Steve Chapin to name just a few. Plus it helps with the upkeep of the church. Well worth the 25 clams a year. Oh, and the food they serve at their shows is phenomenal. :-D
Thumbs up for Arlo Guthrie ! I somehow missed this video earlier this week. Stockbridge I remember well from the times of the song. It's most famous, of course, for Norman Rockwell but nowadays many other painters make their home in W. Massachusetts, some claim that the light cast on the fields and towns and farmhouses is different and distinctive, influenced largely by the Berkshire hills that surround those towns. W. Mass is also the summer home of the Boston Symphony orchestra, up the road a piece in Lenox, MA. So there is a large musician community in that area, some there all year, some only in the summer, not only from Boston and NYC areas, but from around the nation and the world. There are a few summer camps for young musciaians in that area, as well. Arlo Guthrie, of course, is the son of also world famous folk singer songwriter Woody Guthrie. Love the music from the song you used at the end of this video.
First, I am so glad you stuck it out to hear the ending!!! I was very pleased with how that turned out. We truly enjoyed our stay in the area. We wanted to get back there one more time before we had to leave, but just couldn't find the time. Best clam chowder I've had in my life, literally, was what we had at the Main Street Café. We will likely visit Stockbridge again eventually. Thanks so much!! Paul
RealUnitedStatesVlog Plan a trip in the early autumn and take in some art, some music, or a few other events, about early October the foliage is spectacular and the weather is mild, not hot or cold.
Thank you for the fun video. I will definitely visit Stockbridge in the next year and walk down around the back to see Alice's Restaurant. I just have to know: Was Arlo Guthrie driving a red VW Microbus???
Alice was in the movie but not as herself. she had 2 more resturauts after the first one in the ally in Stockbridge. One was on Rt. 183 in Housatonic,Glenville and the last one called Alices at Avaloc was across from Tanglewood.
Thanks for your video. Will be making our pilgrimage to these spots today. Have always loved Alice’s restaurant- the song not the restaurant. Listen to it each Thanksgiving. My wife and I are both vegetarians. So we may try Theresa’s restaurant. Speaking of Alice when we were on Cape Cod in 2009 Alice had a shop in Provincetown, but I don’t recall if that was the name of the shop and it was closed so we never met Alice. Speaking of Arlo Guthrie we saw him perform Alice’s Restaurant as part of its 50th anniversary tour. Was wondering if there was any chance of seeing him at the church? Awesome that you did!
@@Realunitedstates We did eat breakfast at the Main Street Cafe. Theresa’s around back has permanently closed. Went to the Church and while we did not see Arlo we did ask after him. They were having the weekly free community lunch and as one resident put it “Every Weds Arlo buys me lunch!” It was awesome
Are you a member of the church? Arlo performs there, usually in the spring and fall, for three nights each year. I try to see one show each season. It is such an intimate setting. Not a bad seat in the house. Thanks for the video!
Yeah, I realize not everyone will be familiar with the song or movie, and especially after so many years, but this was an important shoot to me, and I am fairly pleased with how it turned out. Thanks!! Paul
Thanks friend for the video from another old boomer who shared many moments with friends listening to his music back in the day.
Glad you enjoyed it

It was sort of a pilgrimage I have to admit. It's a very small town, so be prepared for that, but very pleasant.

Good stuff brother!! Thanks for all your primo recordings Paul & Bev!
Thanks Richard. This one was one of my favorites! I waited like 47 years to get there. LOL!
James Taylor mentioned Stockbridge in his song "Sweet Baby James"
I did not realize that

Interestingly enough, the red microbus was parked in front of the Guthrie Center (the old church) but not what he was driving.

I think my encounter was a fluke, and as I remember it, he didn't appear particularly thrilled to see me there.

Loved this!
We tried to put a little extra effort into this one. Glad you enjoyed it
Paul, I like your channel. Thanks for doing it. Joe in Tokyo
Thank you Joe! Glad to have you with us! Paul

No, not a member. We actually live hundreds of miles away. It sounds like a lovely event though. Thanks for sharing.
To be frank this are new information for me. I will watch the movie, sure.
Yeah, I realize not everyone will be familiar with the song or movie, and especially after so many years, but this was an important shoot to me, and I am fairly pleased with how it turned out. Thanks!! Paul
Is Alice still alive?
Yes, Alice is still alive, but no longer lives in this part of the state.
But she should be old.
Félix Maltchinski according to Wikipedia she was born in 1941. That's 76 by my count.
