Julie Burchill was spot on when she said “if rock and roll was just being invented, it would be the older generation out dancing to it whilst the children tried to have it banned”.
Really? Men in makeup, flamboyant clothing, flouncing about on stage, women being brash and confrontational, all fighting for 'rights' and attacking 'the system', both men and women, blurring the lines between what their parents' would want them to be, the 'older generation' would be gasping for breath with shock, if they were confronted these days, by what they were celebrating in their youth!
It’s long past time for “university students” to stop behaving like toddlers and grow the hell up. This young lady is an example of how they should conduct themselves.
Sophie listens intently and is clearly a free thinker who wants to intellectually explore social issues, this is what university is for. Sadly some (less intelligent) students just want to tell people what to think. Unless stopped, this is signalling the end to the prestige of a University education.
Can I withdraw any money that my tax contributes to these places??? Universities should have funding withdrawn if they allow the harassment, deplatforming and cancelling of speakers on the grounds of racism, transphobia and so on when clearly they don't apply to the speaker.
They call themselves working class students? They are children who’ve never worked in their lives why take any notice in a year of so they will be gone. The adults in the college are cowards!

I remember watching a hilarious interview with Douglas Murray where he was talking about employees of a publisher, possibly Random House, being in tears because they were publishing a new book by someone they despised (Jordan Peterson, I think, or Lionel Shriver). Murray said instead of appeasing the snowflakes the head of the company should have suggested that "perhaps this job isn't for you...or, indeed, perhaps life isn't for you." And he always says it so politely!

Forget about suggesting the "snowflakes" should be banned - freedom of speech is for everyone The issue is simply how a minority or even a majority of people are dictating university policies ? Why is the university allowing this to happen? The University is "The University" and should stand by its charter There should be a procedure whereby all objections / complaints are processed, analysed and a response / decision provided. If the decision goes against the student(s), they can exercise their individual or collective right, that is not to attend the debate - Very much like television, simply change the channel Universities should be bastions of free speech not the suppressor
Well done Sophie, the universities need more people like you. They should make you head of the Students Union. You're not a follower, you've got a mind of your own. I hope to hear more from you.
when i was at university, i eventually realised that the university itself could not complete my education...and in that moment, i completed my education in that university.
The trouble is they get jobs in all the government institutions and the HR depts of private companies. Thats why you see all this bs of pronouns and all the rubbish they all are bending over backwards to cater for these snowflakes
Kevin, what it is is, the pilots cabin of an aeroplane has trigger warning on the door, that it contains nobs, buttons and switches pertaining to controls and instruments to fly a plane. "It's on its way" ;)
Younger folk in this woke generation really do get offended so quickly. It's nigh on impossible to have friendly banter with most youngsters, they look at you like you've grown another head! I reckon most of thier wokeness comes from school days, can't do this, can't do that. Also these little cry babies are the product of parents who've never given much discipline to these mutants.
A trigger warning used to be meant for those with photo sensitive epilepsy to avoid a seizure. Not to stop people being offended. Offense is something taken not given.

Perhaps they think by crying and being offended they can bring in a nice fluffy world where everyone thinks the same as them and the "Unbelievers" can be cast down".
I have two conflicting views on this suggestion Robert, the first is to agree with you because as I say on this blog, a large percentage just want an excuse to avoid for a further three years or more, taking on the responsibilities of getting a job, earning a living and becoming a contributing adult to our society, whilst they get their grants and support from those who have paid into the system beforehand for them to waste it all, coming away with mediocre or poor results, that is if they pass anything at all!!!. Then there is the other side of me that see the dangers of preventing youngsters with obvious flair, talent and intelligence from poorer or working-class backgrounds who's parents can't afford to send them to Uni are never given the opportunity at a time where their educatable capabilities are at their best, to better themselves where the grants, etc are truly justifiied. Yes there is Open University, but that can be quite protracted and very hard if used whilst working where a three year or more focussed and concentrated course could set them on the rise much earlier in life.
