They don't like other animals much and they get attached more to one member of the family. They're very loyal. It's hard to train them to use a litter box, when rabbits can learn in a few days. They chew and they don't like strangers. Hares need a lot more room than a bunny, because they need to run and a pen won't keep them in. They will jump over anything so they need to be free roamed and have their own room when unsupervised. Our hare was like a small child. Nothing like a bunny. He passed away because of a congenital defect. He had surgery and lasted about a month and a half more but ended up dying in my arms. Honestly, it was the best animal companion I've ever had.
Today, late March 2012, I was watching two hares, one chasing the other. There was calling between them for a long time and the sound was very like crows cawing. So the sound here is only a little like a real hare.
