To do so first of all open whatsapp .
here delete any chat and then will try to recover it .
to delete it ,long press on the chat and then click on delete icon .
you are done .
now let's see how we can recover it .
go to "settings" App of your android phone, then "applications", Application Manager,Scroll Down and Click on WhatsApp.
here tap on "clear data ".You will see a pop-up window, then tap on "Clear" button.
after that Open My Files and then tap on "Device Storage".
then device storage , whatsapp , databases.
Long press on file named"msgstore.db.crypt12" and rename the file name to "backup-msgstore.db" and Click on "Rename"
again open whatsapp and click on "Agree and Continue"
Enter Phone Number and Tap on "Next" Then "Ok"
You will receive 6 digit "OTP" on your phone Enter the "OTP" on the box to confirm .
Now click on "Restore" to retrieve deleted messages.
You Can See message has been restore successfully Now Click On next
Enter your name and then click on "Next".
Choose "Never" by tap on Radio button and then Click on "Done".
Open the Conversation and You can see messages has been restored successfully.

What if your android phone doesn't have those exact things can it still be restored
It works only if the data was deleted locally and not been backed-up to Drive. So basically its bringing all the data from your cloud. If u want to delete chats permanently, then make sure to do an manual backup after deleting chats.
Didn't work for me, when I click Whatsapp I only get Media file but not Backups or Databases files. Maybe because I don't have a SD card? What to do please. I have a Vivo v11 mobile phone

With the newer vesions of Android, WhatsApp has restructured the app directory under Android -> Media -> com.whatsapp folder.
Renaming the latest backup file with proper there syntax should work.

Please help me, I deleted the data of my WhatsApp then I log in my account again, then I saw *Restore your messages and media from Google drive. If you don't restore it now, you wont be able to restore later*, then I skip this instead of clicking restore. What am I gonna do? All my messages were gone😭
Followed the steps until the "My File" I could not find any whatsapp Data base n it says " none of the apps on your phn can open this kind of file" 🥺 What should I do now?
The "WhatsApp" folder has been shifted to "Android->Media->com.whatsapp". Rest is the same.

Whatsapp actually recover cloud’s backup not my local which you suggested to rename!
If you put the backup files in the right directory and don't go with cloud backup, it can still restore the local backup.
In fact its all depends upon when your back is done . You can restore the deleted contact but you may not restore recent messages if not been backed up on cloud. After reconfiguring the WhatsApp, you will, get deleted contact but you will lose that day messages that also depends upon backup timing. In this case you need to back manually before deleting the contact.

It works only if u already have backup of ur whts app chat to google account... Such a waste.. No need to do fancy thing like rename file jst unistall and install whts app again only those msg will retrieve which ws sync to Google account previously

WhatsApp changed the folder location to Android->media folder. The process is same but it depends when the last backup occured.
