  • When disaster or war threatens to remove the thin veneer of a well mannered society, people can revert to medieval methods of survival and even turn violent. In this video I explore just how likely it was that those trapped within Tarkov would pick up shotguns and rifles to survive.

Undoubtedly, the main character Denis got lucky toooo many times.
But at the same time, the author showed how and why he changed.
For example, he agreed with the instructors of the police special forces about his training and learned how to work with explosives.
He worked with a scav sniper and learned some tricks.
      And so on.
But yes, you're right, sometimes I really wish that he would somehow be wounded more seriously or something like that.
Perhaps the author wanted the potential player to enjoy the stoty for more than at least 4 minutes of reading from the HEAD EYES xD

@@СынсвоегопапцаYou could argue that the only reason he survived that long was because he got lucky. Civilians don't just transform into hardened fighters overnight and the process is incredibly dangerous the only way they managed to go through it is by luck. It's survivorship bias and many other scavs got there also through sheer will and luck.

I always thought Tarkov makes a huge amount of sense when you consider that the developers probably range from their late '20s to early '40s in age and the series of perpetual crises that followed the break up of the Soviet Union, when they'd have been kids. I'm not saying Tarkov is necessarily an explicit commentary on either that moment or the contemporary Russia that emerged from the chaos, but I imagine growing up in that kind of environment of scarcity and uncertainty is pretty formative and you can see it reflected too in both Tarkov and a lot of other Russian and Eastern European games (STALKER, Metro), with the emphasis on resource management and scarcity, physical vulnerability, and environmental danger, as opposed to the power fantasy approach more common in the west. They lived a version of this story.

ive said this multiple times and I will say it again, listening to the music of tarkov it always felt like it followed a man, a man who had to put food on the plate, a man who is moral though had to do things that he didnt want to just for him and his loved ones to live another day. a man who loses his sanity over time, now a man with no purpose or duty as he kills off his own people just over one morsel of food.

One thing to note is the Russian Federation still uses conscription for maintaining their military readiness. The majority of males in Russia complete a one year hitch between 18-27. I don't believe their military occupational specialty will necessarily just be infantry, but Russia has always been light on the tail and heavy on the tooth. So with that being said a lot will at least have a years military experience possibly in a combat arms role. That doesn't mean that scavs are all former Spetsnaz or VDV but some of them possibly were. I'd bet Glukhar's crew has former VDV or SOBR guys in it if not other former Spetsnaz unit members.

While the comforts of modern, first world progress do come with some long term concerns and longevity issues.. let's hope that we find solutions to those problems rather than face collapse. We only need to look to the history books to see just how much death and suffering come with the extinction of a society. That being said, just like one keeps a fire extinguisher not hoping for or expecting a fire... you'd be a fool not to have one. Always be prepared.

Love your videos. Didn’t love this one. I would stay away from the PC optimism about society stuff and stick to the lore.

I like how there is a 14 minute video on something that can be explained in 30 seconds. 👍

6:57 it's the most eye opening sentence. Well, this is truth, sometimes extremally brutal and often rejected by many "armchair nobles".

Great video man, and I appreciate your positive outlook as you wrapped up the video. You mentioned Katrina in your video; despite the reports of violence and looting, it was actually more likely for people to come together and assist each other. I don't have any links on hand, but definitely look this up; mutual aid and basic human connection is common in disaster/war/famine stricken areas more so than what the media portrays.
