  • WARNING! Unfortunately Sidi Crossfire quality appears to have dropped badly in recent years, to the point where this video review only applies to much older boots. 😢 Please see our updated video instead: • Sidi Crossfire boots r...
    My old Sidi Crossfire 2 boots are 300 rides old and still offering great protection despite so much abuse, and have only needed new soles recently. They are being retired as my backup boots, and I've just bought a new pair of Sidi Crossfires for AUD$375 or US$280 delivered from Bikerland in Germany.
    The interesting thing is these Sidi Crossfire boots were about $65 cheaper than the Sidi Crossfire 2, and the main difference seems to be you have a few more adjustment options with the Crossfire 2, something I knew from experience I didn't need.
    The very first check I made was the stress tests we covered in our earlier video, and this confirmed that this base model Sidi Crossfire boots provided the same amount of protection as my old Crossfire 2 boots. In fact other than the change of colour I couldn't see any difference between the two boots.
    As with the old Sidi Crossfire boots, the new Crossfires are incredibly comfortable straight away. There is no need to break these boots in at all, and the hinged ankle means walking and gear changes are easy immediately. As with helmets, it's very important to test the fit before buying. If you have a very wide foot you may find the Gaerne SG12s a better fit as they have a wider toebox, apparently. And I have heard reports that the SRS version of the Sidi Crossfires can be narrower, although this may no longer apply to current models.
    Here are a few other reviews, just pause to read.
    Out of interest, the Sidi Crossfire SRS version costs around $100 more and gives you a choice of replaceable soles, although personally I find the traditional sole lasts so long I didn't want to spend the extra money.
    In our original vid about boots, we stated that the majority of user reviews on forums suggest that Gaerne sG12s and Sidi Crossfires are regarded as the top two in the premium boot range. If you are on a budget, and don't have an extra wide foot I would highly recommend stretching your budget to this base model Sidi Crossfire. Given the high incidence of lower leg injuries for dirt riders I think it's well worth investment. And the comfort and ease of movement means they can double up for adventure and dual sport riding as well.
    KNOWN ISSUES & PROBLEMS?
    The ankle pivot can squeak when walking, just ad silicon spray every few months if this bothers you.
    It's rare but the screws can loosen over time. Either check every few months, or loctite them all when new.
    Check fit before buying - as mentioned some guys with very wide feet find the Crossfires a bit narrow. Music: www.purple-pla...

    IMPORTANT UPDATE: The quality of Sidi boots appears to have dropped in recent years, please see this update! ua-cam.com/video/_GeUHEBxBDk/v-deo.html
    HOW DO THE BRANDS COMPARE? I've collected hundreds of owner reports. The approximate figures so far? Gaerne 97% positive. Forma 75% positive. Sidi/Alpinestar 50% positive. Fox 35% positive. See this vid: ua-cam.com/video/PFpw8SmUJ9o/v-deo.html
    PROBLEMS WITH SIDI ADVENTURE BOOTS TOO? ua-cam.com/video/cmlYRh3QjYw/v-deo.html
    CROSSFIRE FAILURES REPORTED IN THE PAST YEAR
    Crossfire 2 boots deteriorating after just a few rides: ua-cam.com/video/GnrWlHWQ5TY/v-deo.html
    I got 2 rides out of my brand new crossfires and the bottom of both boots came off. P.N.
    Both soles have fallen off after 3 months of use. D.H.
    Mine fell apart only 9 rides but were over 1 year old so not replaced. B.C.
    My SRS2 also fallen apart after one year. L.R.
    Both soles on my Crossfire 3s have come off. Expected a LOT more from Sidi and they refuse to stand behind their product. P.R.
    Went to my local mx shop and they told me they dont sell Sidi because there shit. M.K.
    I love the fit but the soles come loose. I’ve had 3 pair and 3 soles came off and the hinge on the upper wears out after a few months. T.Y.
    Crossfire SRS2, lasted about 40 hours and the sole came completely unglued. Y.K.
    Crossfire 2 SRS boots, they look like junk after 1st ride in mud; counter of lost bolts is now at 12; enduro sole is junk- it gets torn so quickly; mx one is way more durable. G.G.
    I have had issues with the boot delaminating multiple times. R.H.
    Soles separated from the boots. Both pairs had the same issue... I won’t be purchasing any more Sidi products! T.M.
    Crossfire 3, within a month the soles started to delaminate... they replaced the soles and within a month they started to delaminate again. S.L.
    I have had the SRS 3 for apox 2 years and have had to glue the main sole back on at least 10 times and had a similar experience with the SRS2. B.N.
    My SRS crossfire 2 sole fell off yesterday after bit over 2 years. J.C.
    My SRS Sidi boots - upper sole seperated on one boot, bike only has 2000kms on it. M.P.
    I didn't like my Sidi Crossfire2 SRS boots as the SRS sole would come off at the toe easily. M.R.
    Comfiest boots I’ve ever had (SRS 3) just disappointed with the sole coming off. M.H.
    ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
    What about my own experiences? My first Crossfire boots were bought in 2013 and were amazing. For three years I used them a few times a week for dirt riding and adventure riding. Very long wearing soles, I replaced the left sole in the third year as constant gear changing wore it through. They are still functional but I retired them as a backup pair.
    Second pair bought in 2016 and the quality wasn't as good. The boots are still lasting well, but both soles are coming off earlier than expected, one of the seams is coming undone, and the plastic shinguard keeps pulling away from one of the screws... I needed to use a longer screw and a washer to secure it properly. These issues are not bad compared to the experiences of some riders though.

    Funny because today i ordered a pair of SDI, after i saw your previous review video. I try a few boots, and the SDI are by far the more confortable while keeping feet movements.

      they have a great reputation so far stephen... being a relatively new boot it will be interesting to see if they have the durability of the other two italian boots and get the same long-term reputation. i figure they will, the italians seem to know their boots well!

    I got super lucky and picked up a pair of SIDI Stingers (youth boot) for 70% off ($400 CAD to $120 CAD) and they have been amazing. Just a heads up for any women out there, the youth boots go up to a EU 40, so it is often easy to get a good deal on high end youth boots at the end of the season.

      can't be sure but judging by end of year discounts i reckon the dealers probably only have a $100 to $150 mark up which would be very reasonable in retail circles... there's a lot of rumbling about the distributors having a monopoly though and making a fortune - can't confirm or deny though. there's also GST of course, which we still don't have to pay for online purchases at this level but may kick in eventually.

    I bought my crossfire srs 2's from bikerland also. I'm fairly sure their cheapness has to do with free trade deals within the EU or something like that. All the retailers over here in the states want $575 USD for the boots, I paid something like $380 USD if memory serves. I can't say enough good things about the boots, they're easily worth every penny. I can use them when riding supermoto since they have two different compound soles to slap on as sliders, but I can always swap out the sole to go back to dirt whenever I want. Brilliant for those that ride dirt often, and also love to ride supermoto.

  • @stepansy1143
    @stepansy1143 8 років тому +1

    The SRS version is definitely narrower than the standard iteration of the Crossfire 2. I have narrow, low volume feet and the SRS are the only boots that work for me. Even so, I had to add a thin insole underneath the oem one but that done they are ace. These are great boots.
    Alas, the venting means you won't want to do too much wading in water.

    100% agree man, i got a pair at biker land as well - cheapest price. i went with srs model just for the sake of having an option to use it for supermoto. mx soles boot came with are pretty good and offer good traction anywhere but wet surfaces. rocks or logs - and your leg will slip. i dropped bike on my leg and it was stuck between log bc of that boot, but i didnt get injured bc of that boot lol. swapped soles to enduro and now i m happy gumby rider. good boots/gear are worth every dollar spent as if injury happens you dont want to look back and think should have got better protection

    • @crosstrainingenduro
      @crosstrainingenduro  8 років тому +1

      agreed on spending the money for protection. everything i read suggests sidis or gaernes will last at least twice as long as a boot costing half the price, so why not make the investment?

      Yup thats what i figured too: had fox comp 5 as a first boot, rode them for about 1,5 years pretty much every weekend and boots had holes, pieces of soles falling off and overall felt very flimsy - nothing to compare with sidi or any other high end boots

      Yeah so i chickened out ordering to Canada knowing how our customs like you stay broke while buying bike parts. So i shipped to my buddy to USA and he brought it with him when he visit Canada. As of any extra fees, if you use dhl as shipping method for Europe then it is usps in states - all good, no extra charge. Just whatever you pay for boota plus shipping. If you ship by fedex they ll charge you duties ( at least i have been told so by other ppl who ordered). I think by default shipping methond is dhl though. Hope that helps man.

    I have the new sidi x-3 boots or xtreme and I really like them, they are one below the crossfire 2. I got them cause my foot is still growing lol. I recommend them tho my dad has the crossfire twos and i compared the two, they are very similar but the x-3 has less replaceable parts and the crossfire have a different top section but other than that they are pretty much them same for protection, we love them both and recommend

    Crossfire are excellent boots but I found Gaerne sg12 way more comfortable because of nice memory foam inside.
    Also Sidi took some time for break in while Gaerne were good for my feet out of the box.

    My problem I've had with literally every boot is that I have very large calfs, right now I only have Alpinestar Tech 2's (Very shitty boot, but came with a bike I bought and sorta fit) and they barely wrap around my leg. Very last setting on the top two straps and it's still on the tight side. I wish more companies would touch on this aspect of boot sizing because I've ordered boots several times and had to send them back because they wouldn't go over my calf but fit perfectly otherwise.

  • @d1977j
    @d1977j 8 років тому +1

    Coming from tech 10s, I thought new crossfires2 will be an instant comfortable fit, but with narrow foot, boots needed 5 rides to stop hurting badly, have stiff buckles and plastics don't line up when fit. Other than that, an average feel, but it's protection that counts.

    • @crosstrainingenduro
      @crosstrainingenduro  8 років тому +1

      that doesn't sound like a good fit, did you get to test them first or buy them online? did heaps of research and the only bad fit seemed to be guys with very wide feet who then went for the gaernes... and guys with big calves, although most said the crossfire 2 was fine because you can adjust those for bigger calves.

    • @d1977j
      @d1977j 8 років тому +1

      Being more on the lanky side, didn't think it would be a problem. Tried them before purchase, and they were correct size, good fit. When started riding them, point pressure pain emerged on both outer insteps, and I had them very loose on the buckles. It came to a point I was pretty pissed about this top notch boot, but eventually the broke in.

    Cheapest I could find on BikerLand in my size (44) were the black/green Crossfire 2.
    Tonight I found (and bought) a pair of original new white Crossfires on eBay in Melbourne for $395 + $20 shipping, but got a $20 voucher. So... $395AUD all up!
    This afternoon I'd pretty much made up my mind to buy a pair of Gaerne SG12s, but they're $800, so these cost less than half.

    • @crosstrainingenduro
      @crosstrainingenduro  7 років тому +1

      good value! remember there's a difference between the crossfire then the crossfire 2..... the crossfire 2 is usually $0 to $100 more and has a bit more protection and is the equivalent of the SG12.

    I hope you don't mind but I digress from the riveting boot discussion to ask a couple of things I've been meaning to ask for awhile... your opening rant disclaimer just reminded me (about researching your own shit)
    You and your Italian princesses have me looking at the beta as a very viable option for my next bike... I have a dealer 100kms away and he let me test ride one... which nearly sent me into an impulse buy... but after having read many many reviews my style of riding may not agree with beta... so here's my questions
    1) what's the fuel range you average
    2) I sit more then I should... does the seat get softer??? tell me it does.
    3) for an average gumby is the race versions worth it. different in price is $1000 bucks.
    4) 430 or 480
    I'm not interested in the 2 bangers...
    just like your thoughts and comments.

    • @crosstrainingenduro
      @crosstrainingenduro  8 років тому +1

      never measured fuel consumption steven, and i think there are so many variables that other rider's figures are no help.
      i almost never sit so i don't know if the seat softens up.
      the race version might be worthwhile if you are racing? as the name implies, it has a few features that suit anyone racing.
      430 or 480? that would probably come down to your intended use of the bike which you haven't mentioned at all. i could probably only point you toward the existing reviews i've done on each bike for my thoughts and comments in any case.

    I was looking at getting some crossfires so I could be a gumby like you, so I went and tried some on today and I honestly didn't think they were that comfy, comparing the comfort to the alpinstars tech 7, the tech 7s are heaps better. I think my foot is a little wide for them but also just above my ankle on the outside of the boot, a buckle or something was sticking into my leg and it felt horrible. I'm going to try some sg12s on and see how they fit before I settle for the tech 7s.
    I was pretty surprised that the crossfire wasn't as comfy as expected, I must have a weirdly shaped leg and foot lol

    Unfortunately my foot does not fit Sidi boots due to the width of my foot, I was very sad about that. Also Gaerne is very hard to come by where I am and they didn't have a size that fit me and they would have to order a pair and I would be stuck with me if they fit or not. I bought a pair of Alpinestars Tech 7's due to availability and price. Although these boots are very comfortable and easy to walk in they do not have the required protection needed for Enduro or motocross IMHO. I have had to dab my foot a few times on the moto track and nearly hyper extended my ankle which resulted in a little ankle discomfort. Then while riding enduro some rocks and logs have hit my foot pegs and I really felt it through the boots. The last incident that made me realize I need better boots i had my foot caught between the motor and the side of a bank, this one really hurt my foot and ankle. Before these boots I used Alpinestars Tech 10's and I wouldn't have felt a thing had I still be using those during any of those times... I can't believe they actually make anything less protective than the Tech 7. A leather boot without any reinforcement or armor is useless!!! I really need some Gaerne's (probably SG10) or I might try the new Alpinestars Tech 10 offroad. Unfortunately, all the top boots here are worth $600 Canadian minimum... Don't cheap out... get good boots!

    I have always liked how Sidi boots were designed and felt on my foot however at the time I got sponsored by them for racing they didn't have a model that would fit me in the calf area. They worked very close with me to try and get something to work but in the end I had to pass on their sponsorship and stick with my Alpinestars. I wonder how these would fit someone like myself with big calves now since it has been a long time ago that I had to pass them up because of the fitment issues.

      @crosstrainingenduro  8 років тому +1

      did you try the latest crossfire 2 boots? they say there's an adjustment for wide calves but i do vaguely remember some guy on a forum saying it still didn't quite give him enough room... mind you i don't think he found any boot that would fit.

    • @bbarker5766
      @bbarker5766 8 років тому +1

      No I have not tried any new boots on for a long time. Since I don't ride nearly as much as I would like to I haven't found it necessary however when I do I will be giving the Sidi's another go. Btw I agree with you on buying the best boots you can afford or saving up to get the best available just like a helmet!!

    I currently use a set of Alpinestars Tech 7. Love the comfort, find them too have a chunky toe and are terrible when they come in contact with water!
    How have you found the SIDI's in winter with water crossings and large trenches/puddles? Do they keep your feet dry? The tech 7's seem to invite the water in. I that upset with them I'm thinking of writing a letter to AS!

    I ride in the gaurne sg 11 and I find that if you ride a ktm125-200 years 2011-2014 you will have a problem while kicking the bike of the side of your boot hitting the foot peg resulting it shredding of the side of the boot so I threw my stock peg on that side and dulled it down to reduce the effects still not a good thing.

      My error, I meant the base Crossfire that you are reviewing here. I'm in no place to spend $500+ US on new boots so was resorting to the Gaerne SG-10's. I was interested in Sidi's off road line though since I really loved my Sidi roadracing boots.

    I've got the alpine stars at the moment there tech 3 so there pretty old there extremely comfortable and they handle the stress tesg perfectly i would say there the best boots for the medium price range bot i would still like to know if there good for 100 dollar boots

      after two sets of busted bones i don't wear cheap boots anymore so couldn't comment on the tech 3 personally. but i have read on the forum that the old ones seemed to have a good reputation but many complaints about shoddy quality and falling apart quickly the past few years.

    I have only had three sets of dirt bike boots in my life, the first set were cheap rubbish, the second set, fox former pro (I think) the set I'm on now are fox also. I have found fox boots have a 10 year life span, then completely fall apart in every way possible on their last ride. How are the SIDI & Gaerne (< I'm sure I spelt that wrong) in that aspect if you know?

    • @crosstrainingenduro
      @crosstrainingenduro  8 років тому +1

      as per the vid, the sidi crossfire 2 boots are 300 rides old and the soles have just worn out. there is one part where the stitching on the leather has come undone but hasn't created any problems.... and that's it. nobody seems to report any particular issues long term on the forums. the boots are modular so if a particular part breaks or wears out you can just buy the replacement part.

    • @dirtnap3985
      @dirtnap3985 8 років тому +1

      +CROSS TRAINING ENDURO SKILLS I understand they are 300 rides old but how old are they in time?? As I said, 10 year life span... I'm not the only one that has found this with other boots.

Even more so, Thank you for the great videos, I really enjoy the content you release. Looking to replace an old par of Gaerne boots, they have always been a bit loose on me and I am hoping the Sidi will have a slightly snugger fit. just saw E Money's comment below.... "As of any extra fees, if you use dhl as shipping method for Europe then it is usps in states - all good, no extra charge. Just whatever you pay for boots plus shipping. If you ship by fedex they ll charge you duties ( at least i have been told so by other ppl who ordered). I think by default shipping methond is dhl though."
