Repotting Citrus Trees - Citrus Tree Soil

  • Опубліковано 14 сер 2024
  • My Citrus Trees grown from seed are now over 33 months old and it's time to get these citrus trees grown in containers into BIGGER Pots!
    They were sown from seed on 6/11/17.
    In this update, I will be repotting the orange trees (as well as the lemon trees - but not shown) into 5 gallon pots up from the 2 gallon pots they are currently in. I am mainly repotting them for a few reasons:
    1) They are requiring more frequent waterings due to the pots being too small
    2) The root system needs more space to branch out
    3) The Texas heat (100 degrees plus) is coming soon and we don't want the pots (or roots) to overheat.
    Some info for the care of container-grown citrus plants:
    - Be sure you plants get 8-12 hours of direct sunlight (not blistering sun, but good sun)
    - Make sure the pot/container is well draining
    - Be sure to not let the soil dry out. Moist soil is better than not moist.
    - Supplement 2X per year with a slow release fertilizer (citrus is a heavy feeder)
    - You can use Neem Oil to treat pests like spider mites, or rubbing alcohol on mealy bugs/worms.
    - Citrus grown from seed takes 3-5 years minimum to flower, and sometimes it never does.
    I hope you'll enjoy both of my Citrus series'. Here's the Orange and Lemon series links:
    • Citrus Trees (Oranges)...
    • Citrus Trees (Lemons) ...
    Some Citrus Seedling Care Info:
    Citrus Trees like slightly acidic soil (5.5-6.5 PH) and it needs to be well draining soil full of sand, moss and perlite. They should be kept in warmer conditions while they are seedlings (75-85 degrees) and water them infrequently, but heavily - allowing all the water to drain from the pot, keeping it moist only.

    Hey Rob Do another Update on Your Citrus Trees ...

  • @shundakm
    @shundakm 29 днів тому

    Thank you looking out for the tree and both have also kept them watered and doing an actual great job im my ocassions bc its so green and beautiful with white and some yellow flowerings and even flower bulbs. I’ve had it 😂since May I think and its about 2-3 yrs old and it arrived from a company that sell so many patio mini trees of many kinds and I had always wanted my own lime and lemon patio or mini tree since I could remember but I know since the time I’ve gotten it it was doing nothing at all for the 1st month and a half but I guess it was just doing its own thing bc like I said it has many many many flowerings on them and there’s many noticeable (I’ll call them buds or pods) but whatever they are called, I was so so so excited when my mother got me up out of sleep to tell me baby you have many many blooms on your like tree and many more that very close to coming in. Omg I jumped up and ran to my patio and was sooo ecstatic with this sight. So I’m praying I can get up
    And out and pick me up about the same size pot he added his plant to in here bc like I mentioned b4, I did received my tree directly from a tree gardener and when it arrived it was 3 yrs old. I’m so happy and I’m going to get me a new pot for it maybe a 15 as you have in your video bc my tree arrived just as the black pot you removed your tree from 1st. I was hoping I’d get a large glaze pot or even the plain terra-cotta pot but for right now I’ll stick with sizing up with that 15 blue pot or whatever it may be. Thanks for all your great info in this one segment though bc it was very knowledgeable to me. I’ll be ack for more very soon

    When I repot to a larger container I cut an X in the bottom and 5 or 6 vertical cuts. Roots that are growing circular will continue to grow circular. Good info on the soil👍.
    Like number one my friend 👍😊

    Q little tip for your trees if they get flowers for fruit take a lot of them off only let 4 or 5 grow or it will stress your tree and it will suffer next year but don't pick all of them off for a little stress remindes them for next year if you pick all of them the next time it fruits I will explode and will cause damage for years to come. Sorry for long text just little tip so you know what can happen if you let it do its thing a little to much lol anyway have a good day im injoying the videos

    What is your thought about adding a layer of small pebbles on the bottom of the pot for drainage? Also do you ever prop the pots up on bricks (or wheels for a wine barrel) to help aeration and drainage. Thanks for your great video.

    So I just bought a Eureka lemon tree from Home Depot, its about 3 ft tall. Our weather is in the 98°F to 101°F Do I avoid repotting or planting on the ground until our summer is over? This weather lasts until Mid September. I live close to Palm Springs.

    • @vastya.3255
      @vastya.3255 3 роки тому

      You can pinch them if you want them to focus on width instead of height, it’ll get bushier . I started my lemon tree two nearly three months ago , it’s been in my windowsill but it still only has two leaves , 🌱 it looks like this and it’s 1,5-2 inches, what am I doing wrong? It’s not in citrus soil. It was in cocopeat for 2 months and I recently put it in regular potting mix, gave it general fertilizer. It stays green but no growth, help.

    From what i have read,
    You may introduce ethylene gas to the tree to help trigger/force flowering.
    Usually, ripe apples, bananas can give off this gas.
    Look into the plant hormone florigen.
    I think sold in a spray.
    I want to add long as you don't cut roots back more than 25% you can maintain the tree in one pot.
