TGUK really is guilty of mixing in too many new songs into a short set...but at least the rest were heavy-hitters.
@@SeveredLegs new songs are all bangers tho! Especially Satellite, The Advocate, and Fairweather Friends
@@torres04 They're not bad....but legacy acts should stick to the mains.
@@SeveredLegs They're more than just a legacy act! They're a band with 6 damn good full lengths and 4 damn good EP's, plus side releases beyond that. I always prefer they represent their entire catalog and not solely their music from 1999 and prior. The band should always be proud of the music they have made throughout the entirety of their 25+ year career. If you just enjoy their old stuff, that's totally cool, but know that they have plenty of fans who love all their other stuff too, even whatever may not have been "commercially" successful.
@@torres04 At which point in my comments did I suggest they should only play songs from 1999 and prior?
DAMN!!!! His voice is same as 90's!! nostelgia 👍
Naw. Matt's singing voice is very off in some parts, idk if that's just cuz of him being older or cuz of nervousness
@@dog_owner It’s years of touring and age. He has a unique rasp to his voice and it fades over time as your vocal chords wear down just like a muscle. I remember feeling it at the end of playing a lot of shows. You can’t do it forever.
All they need is James back tickling the ivory’s
Calm down, vocal coaches. He still sounds awesome
Wow quality on youtube live shows sure have gotten incredibly professional. I swear this could be a live DVD sold for $15.99 15 years ago. Thanks for posting, who knows when we'll get back to awesome shows like this.
I know, it's phenomenal gives me chills.
This band had such an impact, it's impossible to put into words how big of a deal they were.
As a 40 year old, Guilt Show is one of the best albums of all-time, and I feel blessed or lucky to have met them and seen them like 5 times.
Had to shout this out exactly one year later.....cheers to whoever is watching this in 2020! see you on the other side
I'm on the other side. It still fucking sucks.
2021
Twenty twenty one woooooooooo
2021 yes! Hopefully everything gets a little better day by day :) stay up with the get up kids!!!!
2021 best way to start a morning is with get up kids!
Thanks for taking me back to my teenage years - Something To Write Home About is still a ripping, magnificent album. I loved this 🙏
His voice hasn’t changed a bit. Pretty astonishing actually
Awesome dude, this takes me back to Highschool so quickly, I can't explain the nostalgia it's almost overpowering and I get emotional as hell. Four minute mile is my favourite album by them bar none.
4 minute mile saved my life when i was 17 years old. "shorty" was what i heard first on a cassette, then i saw them at a small show in some guys basement in minneapolis and again at a small record store in minnepolis in 1997-ish . i will die living to this music
@@mwiebuschjr They were so influential, it's a shame that they never got the recognition they deserved, that's a great experience man, something I'm sure you'll hold very closely for the rest of your life.
@@MrBikboi I swear if the order of release had been STWHA - Guilt Show - On A Wire, they'd have been huge. Like Wilco/Spoon kinda levels
Same here man🥲
Thank you! Watched you edit this on your livestream, so glad you released it this soon. Was lamenting about how I had tickets (bought at 5 times marked up door price on stubhub) for the Dashboard Confessional/The Get Up Kids 20 year anniversary show in Boston on my birthday in late March that was all canceled due to the virus. This at least makes up a little bit for the massive birthday let down. Thanks again bro, keep it up.
I needed this....thank you for uploading ☺ I remember back in early 2000's when they were doing a farewell tour... still on my bucket list of bands to see live
Amazing. 10/10. Love the editing videos as well. You rule, dude.
Damn, they actually sound really solid here.
I got to see them in Ferndale, MI the next night! I’m so happy this video exists to go along with my memory.
The quality is top notch! Thank you!
Bummed they couldn’t do Philly this year because of the virus. Thanks for this! Fills the void
Quality 10/10! Constantly amazed by your uploads!
Yo these guys sound amazing still... Probably even better than before.
I haven't seen a lot of bands live, but I did see GUK and it was the best experience ever. They had the crowd at their fingertips. GO see them.
@@brianbirchall6880 Matt always said they recorded the album in a key 1 too high for his voice so he usually fucked it live, he did great here. Too bad James fucked it and isn't in the band anymore cause the dude playing the keyboard fucking sucks.
This band is my childhood. My screen name on aim back in the day was getupkid. This whole show is a nostalgia explosion
I’m with you dude. My aim screen name was getupkid3765 Such a different time.
Wow, thanks Sunny for uploading this.
Saw them on a weeknight in 1999. The Anniversary opened for them at the Great American Music Hall in SF. Probably only a few hundred people there. TGUK slayed for 2 hours!!
Wow this album was the soundtrack to my highschool years they sound so amazing this brought a tear to my eye rip our youth 😭
These dudes are always so awesome. We owe it all to them and everyone always forgets that.
Profissional video, amazing quality. Cheers!
Seeing Get Up Kids sooooooooooo many times at Metro in Chicago... Still love this band 20yrs later.
I wasn't sure what to expect but this is actually pretty dope. Sounds great
Damn I missed them, was living a few miles outside of Buffalo just a year before this show. Grew up listening to them and saves the day amongst others too in that genre. Great vid and they still sound amazing
THANK YOU!!!
Thank you ❤️
Goddamnnnnn this is so
Good. Thank you
TGUK has never lost it! Fucking rocking show! I’m 35 (I used to think that was old) and these guys were a HUGE influence in my hormonal high school (and after ofc) years! I remember having Chuck Taylors and writing the names of all my favorite bands on them. Life was more carefree then. Thanks for all the good years of music TGUK, you’ve gotten me through some bad (and good) times! Cheers!
One of the best, if not the best, “emo” bands of all time and it’s not even close. These guys inspired so many bands and artists that would never exist without them. Absolute legends.
THANK YOU
What a great show.
Anyone else get this weird dynamic that the Getup Kids are actually more famous now than when they were touring all the time back in the early 00s? I see Matt Pryor popping up on podcasts and hear other bands mention them more often than I used to. Maybe due to a whole generation of musicians that they influenced?
it happens often in music, a band comes around that never really reaches mainstream fame, but plays a pivotal role in influencing other musicians who do, who then go on to talk about the band that inspired them which in turn raises the profile of the original band. Mark Hoppus talked a lot about his love of GUK, for example. Shit, the mid west emo scene may as well change it's name to the midwest Get Up Kids scene, because pretty much any band from that came out of it from the late 90's to mid 00's was doing their best to ape The Get Up Kids.
see also: The Ramones and to a lesser extent, Jawbreaker.
Interesting - most people my age (I’m mid 20s) don’t know this band but know all the bands they’ve influenced (Fall Out Boy, blink-182, MCR, Jimmy Eat World, Dashboard Confessional, etc. )
Being from the Midwest and loving all kinds of punk/hc/emo this is great thanks hate5six
One of the best bands ever. I saw them at CBGB back in 96 or 97 on their tour with Braid. For some reason they were on the same bill as Spazz, Monster X, 97A, and Hemlock. I had never heard of them before but they blew me away & got themselves a lifelong fan that day.
Braid, another amazing band.
Terrific quality

Introduced to them in 1998 as a highschool freshman in central California, Emo really hadn't poked it's head out in my area as much as NuMetal at that time. Fast-forward to 2004 and The Guilt Show album drops and I'm in the United States Marine Corps operating near the Syrian border in Al Qa'im Iraq on my second combat tour lying in a fighting hole in the middle of nowhere....I'm listening to my new favorite track from them "Is there a way out" while mortars are raining down around our position. I laid there, not by choice, but frozen by sleep paralysis... Not struggling to kick out of it like I usually would. Is there a way out? I still get sleep paralysis and a hollow part of me is still in Iraq...is there a way out? I still don't know...
Thanks for your service brother
Watched this right after watching their 1999 video in Cambridge, MA.... 20 years later they're still around.
great job on the sound
Yeah, big time!
Great. Thanks six.
I remember you Burke and Dave
San Diego county
You got me into these dudes!
Forever grateful
Man, its weird to see these guys. I was in high school in Kansas City in the mid 90's and my friend's sister was dating the bass player. My friend and I were in a shitty band together and he kept name dropping these guys. Its crazy they are actually known, influential, and good. Cool.
That's such a deadly story man, time flies and they were CRAZY influential in music.
This rules. Thanks!
Amazing. Sounds of my youth.
Just a reminder - this band influenced Fall Out Boy, blink-182, Coheed and Cambria, (arguably) Something Corporate & Jack’s Mannequin, MCR, New Found Glory - yet lots of people that love emo/pop-punk don’t know this band. Talk about a band that deserves more recognition (their 1997-2000 period).
If you've been to a TGUK show in the last 20 years, you know without a doubt that they're gonna open with "Holidays" 😁 But following up with "Dottie"? That's unexpected. That's a closer.
Great set!
Yes, this is why I still listen to this in 2021 🤘
Come to the philippines please. And play the whole "something to write home about" album
頼むからJapanにまた来てくれー
死ぬまでに生で一度は見たいんだー!
Yes! Me like it! Nöjda! Thx for uploading! 😎👌🍻
Never gets old!!! ;)
I love these burly bearded dudes and their angelic voices. These guys are the genuine article, man.
Nice ! Goodjob Sunny
awesome, nostalgic, brilliant, spectacular, get up kids
I absolutely loved this! One thing though...it seemed like you were just rushing through songs to end it quickly. Yoy used to interact with the crowd, what happened to that?
Holy crap we are old!!! This is awesome I remember seeing them in 99 when we were all skinny 😂
Been waiting so long for this. Is that James on the keys? Gata do a Reggie reunion
Nope James isn't in TGUK anymore for whatever reason. Dustin Kinsey on keys.
@@kvltr00 yeah didn't look like him lol he's been doing shit with my chemical romance or some shit. I miss the Reggie days
James got booted from get up kids and my chem.
@@pollyanna147 i did not know that. Outside of Reggie I don't really care what he does lol I think his x wife fucked him all up
scott meyers why?
If I Had My Own Talk Show, 'I'm A Loner Dottie, A Rebel' Would Be The Theme Song.
Man they still sound great
I'm impressed😂
content on 1000000! Love this account! Hardcore and emo?!
holy crap I didn't know the guitarist sang "Woodson"! Phenomenal
Is that Steve from ETID in the Buffalo sweater on stage left?
Right on man
perfect show!! what a great band! daisuki desu!
Awesome band! Awesome show!!!
最高にかっこよき
Is it just me or is Get Up Kids better then ever?
Something to Write Home About is such a good record.
agreed guilt show is my fav from them though, i feel like it’s under-appreciated
great!
Fun set! Did you happen to catch the Ghostface Killah set?
Man, we were all kids in the mid 90s. But, we have aged gracefully!!
Rad to the maximum effect. So inspired. WORD much love
The GOATs. Long live TGUK.
watching while wfh missing gigs
see them together with jimmy eat world in summer in Berlin🔥🔥
love the Get up kids!
please please record underthrow
This was one year ago today !
I wanna see them so bad! Damn covid -_-
Wait, was he serious about Ghostface KIllah?!? What show was this?! I need to see this in person
Every Time I Die's 'TID the Season annual holiday event. Keeps getting bigger and better.
"HOOOLIDAY !!"
Andrew Lozano our good days in high school early 2000’s
His voice 😇
the kids have grown old. never mind, still sounds good
Who is this guy singing and why did he eat Matt Pryor???
Pls post more Pop Punk/Emo bands. Definitely more interesting than the mega plethora of beat down bands.
Dave Abrenica yes, at least this channel posted Farside, Title Fight and other emo/pop-punk bands
He's posted Senses Fail before which is tight
Is this emo or pop punk? The genres in this scene confuse me. When I think of pop punk, blink 182 and green day come to mind but I don't think the get up kids sound like them at all😂 then there's people that refer emo music to math rock stuff, which I don't hear in the get up kids at all. Is it closer to post hardcore but without the screaming? 😂 This has been bothering me for ages lol.
Past Tense honestly they have a mix of emo, pop-punk, indie rock and alternative elements, well that’s what it says on Wikipedia, and I guess they can derive elements from bands such as Weezer, Jawbreaker, and Green Day.
@@ube8867 I think you're right with that one! That is much less complicated than I was making it in my head 😂 I do hear a mix of influences, which really makes them have their own thing.
Did the singer eat the singer
They still sound great, and it's so nostalgic to me. But very weird that a bunch of middle-aged dudes like me sing about college and drinking and girls. It's just so funny cause they're probably all married with kids now. :P
This video has 1.1 K upvotes and 0 downvotes. That says something.
What a band.
The fuckin' Get Up Dads, alright!
like the wine
Saw them on this tour in Memphis, it was fucking rad!!!!!!!!! No James D though. Not sure why he wasn’t touring with them.
still have NO idea as to why james left. MCR maybe? hmm...
He was kicked out.
@@kevinmatthew1050 oh, gotcha. thanks for the insight!
a damn vibe
❤ the get up kids
HOLY FUCKBALLZ! That is all.
