I got my son a Deuter Fox 40 kids backpack when he was 10, and he just outgrew it at 14. If your little guy is big enough to fit it now it’s a good one to consider. Very adjustable, very comfy, and very sturdy
So nice to see you do this with your son. Just as backpacking, I dealt with growing boys and skiing, etc. Always constant upgrades due to their growing. I managed by buying used…and then telling them it’s not what you have or how you look, but how good you are at what you are doing that matters. Both are grown and highly skilled skiers and back country backpackers/outdoorsmen.
I replaced my dream hammock this past year. The fabric was starting to fray a little, and I didn't want to end up on the floor. I ended up with a Dutchware Chameleon. Loving it so far. Great video!
I’ve had great success with Dream Hammock Darien. I’m 185lbs using 1.3 MTN fabric. Hiked over 2000 miles (180+ nights) on my AT hike no problems still sleeping in it every night at home! Yes the bugnet is sewn on one side, which is an advantage for me with lower weight since less zipper is used, and when the net is not used it isn’t noticeable at all, or in the way. I found having the bugnet being available was helpful for not just bugs, but also for colder weather too.
I added another Dutchware quilted hammock to my collection. The bug net is removable. If you get the 40F sewn in quilt you could add a zipped in underquilt from Dutch (JacksRBetter makes them Dutch sells them) so you could get that hammock down to colder temperatures. Happy Hiking
Dude I enjoy the video style of things that you want. This would be a nice way for me to discuss pieces of gear that I need to upgrade for real ultralight. I am on the border now, with most gear ultralight, but not all
@MattyOutdoors this year is my best outfitted year ever. I am at a point where I have all the gear, but need to test layering systems. Like I normally have a nice warm hat, but am relying on a thin alpha cap, but with the hood on many other layers being used more often. Hood on my octa air mesh, hood on my rain jacket, hood on my puffy, hood on my sun shirt.
I got a Hammock Gear Circadian Pro last year with the optional Winter Cover with a 40D fabric. It was an upgrade from a Ridge Outdoor Gear Pinnacle hammock. The Circadian is much more comfortable. My only dislike is that the zipper sliders on both sides meet at the center of the hammock. On my previous hammock, I could position the sliders to meet up near my head so that I could easily locate them when I needed to get up in the middle of the night.
Nice wish list. I just purchased the Adotec Grizzly resistant bag, and can't wait to try it. It's supposed to be rodent resistant too. I have a few hammocks - all made out of 1.25 oz/yd material, which is marginally stronger than 1.2 oz per yard. I have never had a problem with my hammocks and I am heavier than you.
For my hot tent I went with a smokehouse hammock hot tent. Check him out. It's all handmade. Lots of different materials to choose from. It's not ATP but with my 12-ft Ridgeline I can sleep three people. No problem. I went with a 1.9 Oz material and including poles. It's about six lb. Of course it relies on trees then, but also you could build an easy A-frame out of 2x4s at a pole
Looked at one of those a while ago, but im not sure how well it would handle the wind. I have a onetigris tegimen, which is very similar, and its awful in any wind at all
If I were going to replace my dream hammock Sparrow, it'd probably be with a dream hammock Sparrow. I've slept in a few others and that 1.6 oz. Hyper d is still so wonderful!
You and I are lookingat the same gear this year. I too would like the Griz bag and the Alpha pants. For hot tents we are looking at the Redcliff 6 person Dyneema and the Pomoly titanium Dweller Max 3 stove. Chris is determined to pull it on the pulk. We will see if we can afford them this year!!
You guys are troopers hauling a pulk.. I tried one years ago, and absolutely hated it.. I prefer hauling on my back, and gives me a reason to pull out the Bora
@@MattyOutdoors thats what i have been telling the hubby. He’s gonna hate the pulk. We ended up buying the 8 person non dyneema seek outdoors tipi. I guess with a stove it fits 4.
@alpineearth Bo has a seekoutside redcliff we use for the hot tent trips. He carries the tent, I carry the stove and pole. I found with the pulk, it made any incline an absolute nightmare.. They are built for flat land
Dutchware, Dreamhammock, Superior Hammock, Hennessy or Hammockgear have awesome hammocks. The One Tigris Rock Fortress for a tent (very good quality and budget friendly, had mine for years) l, and any Pomoly stove will work. I would go for something in titanium and foldable if you want to hike with it, do not go cheap on the stove (it’s a lifetime investment).
Purchased the Adotec food bag. Black bear version. Bought for same reason, not have to “hang” it. My only complaint it doesn’t have a flat or foldable bottom. It’s awkward to fit in a UL pack (palante desert for me). Been thinking about switching to the Ursack 😂, just so it’d fit better in my pack. Probably Won’t, but… just a heads up.
I promised my girl I wouldn’t buy any new gear 2025 but these demons keep attacking me. Got sent a limited time 20% return customer coupon. Now I’m stuck with a brand new WM nanolite quilt. Life is hard.
the biggest item on my wish list for the new year is a large 3-4 backpacking tent to replace my older MHW Optic 3.5 that is just to heavy for what it provides.
I have a Hubba Hubba 2P and have loved it. What is drawing me to the new LT 3P is the 75”x90” floor dimensions so I could sleep either direction in it and fit more of my kids in there with me.
I have the worlds lightest flat lay hammock I am willing to sell, if you are interested. Used a couple of times, pretty much brand new! He does not make them anymore.

Will definitely have to look into that one!

used gear has definitely been a route ive taken with quite a bit of his stuff so far

The chameleon is a real nice hammock for sure

in the summer, a lot of times I use my cave creek pet palace for my dog, so a detachable bugnet saves me weight
I also love Alph Direct. I have several different pieces and a 90 weight pull over is something I use all the time. Thanks for all the great videos!
Alph Direct is great stuff!

I was a big dutchware fan until he basically made an exact replica of the superior gear hammocks
Dude I enjoy the video style of things that you want.

I am on the border now, with most gear ultralight, but not all
It's a great way to think about gear upgrades. What are you thinking of upgrading first?
@MattyOutdoors dcf tent coukd shave 20 ounces, but I wouldn't pay for one

🤞That all will get to you.
Fingers crossed!

those hammockgear hammocks are nice, my friend Nathan uses one
Nice wish list.

I know the 1.3 is fine for my weight, but it just bugs me how see through it is..
@MattyOutdoors I see. Well, my girlfriend has a 1.3 oz per yd hammock too for the past 5 years.
For my hot tent I went with a smokehouse hammock hot tent. Check him out. It's all handmade. Lots of different materials to choose from. Glad you enjoyed it

The sparrow is one of the ones im considering!
Let me know when you get that hot tent and plan to take it for a rip brother!
will do!

@ yes i agree with you. I have been trying to convince the hubby to get a compact fold up stove for when he decides the polk sucks.
Dutchware, Dreamhammock, Superior Hammock, Hennessy or Hammockgear have awesome hammocks.

You have some great suggestions! I've heard good things about that tent, I'll look into it.

The struggle’s real 😂
You’ve got to do what you’ve got to do!
Simp
@robsmith2347 says the guy that probably doesn’t have a girl at all 😂

What are you looking at getting?
I am looking at the new MSR Hubba Hubba LT 3P or the Nemo Dagger 3P
@davidcooper8390 havent looked into the new hubba line, but i was a hubba hubba user for years, loved that tent.
I have a Hubba Hubba 2P and have loved it. What is drawing me to the new LT 3P is the 75”x90” floor dimensions so I could sleep either direction in it and fit more of my kids in there with me.
I love the ursack but not the price. I plan to purchase a zen bivy ultra light quilt.
the zenbivy UL quilt I have is absolutely incredible. I LOVE it
Matty - Did you add your end screen?
Yah, sometimes they dont load
Camping memories with son > Cost of gear for gowning son to continue camping
a more true statement has never been spoken
I have the worlds lightest flat lay hammock I am willing to sell, if you are interested. Used a couple of times, pretty much brand new! He does not make them anymore.
Appreciate the offer, but not necessarily what I'm looking for
