You can't have him do all to save Japan and those in his life and then not give him something good to come out of it! It wasn't cheesy, and most people, if they hadn't cried already, its what brought them to tears. How can you call that cheesy? It was beautiful and he deserved it(and so did she for saving him in the first place). Saying cheesy really cheapens the film and takes away from the masterpiece that is this film, not movie, but film. It's interesting because it seems that if someone says something negative about the ending, they are younger. I wonder if it's just harder for younger people to get really heartfelt emotionally, so they tend to go negative towards it instead. I dunno. Im probably just so unexpectedly in love with this movie that im getting defensive at anything negarive said about it. It uis truly classic cinema, and the last thing I expected that opening day to see. 😢❤

So first off i love the interaction about film. I think you have great take on the film. I find things often get taken wrong in the comments so from one film fan to another i hope nothing i say is received in an insulting manner. As a film student i love talking to other film lovers about everything. So i appreciate you taking the time to weigh in.
About your observation about younger audiences. I’m really not that young. What you’re saying might be true but I’m definitely not a good example of it because neither jose and I would be considered young at least by today’s standards.
now for the ending. Maybe we just have different feelings towards the word “corny”. Personally i don’t think the film having a corny moment reflects on the ending as a whole. We stated early in the video that finding negatives about the film in general was difficult. Any negatives we had were us nit picking.
I also think focusing on the corny comment takes away from our overall thoughts on the film. This film is a masterpiece and we said as much in the review. I don’t think a film needs to be flawless to be considered a masterpiece.
To elaborate on my comments further. The reason i thought it was corny was because of how the film depicts the nature of death. Death can be sudden and unexpected. I found Noriko surviving corny because it just wasn’t consistent in my opinion. Death isn’t always clean. You don’t always get what you want. Koichi doesn’t get to turn back the clock for all his regrets. he had to learn to live past them. I felt it was fitting for him to lose Noriko because i felt it fit in with the themes of holding dear what you still have but also remembering the past.
Lastly we actually agreed with what you said about Koichi deserving a nice ending. We state in the review that while we did think Noriko surviving the after math of The Atomic Breath itself to be corny. We were happy that koichi got some sort of personal win in the end.
Do we think Noriko surviving what basically amounts to a nuclear explosion to be kinda odd? Yes we did. But do we think Godzilla -1’s ending to be fitting? We absolutely did.
I hope none of this is taken in a way that makes u feel offended. It wasn’t my intention. I love talking about movies and appreciate you giving me the opportunity.

U guys missed the mark on the ending. In no way was this a happy ending movie. To first understand what I mean by that, you have to first understand that Godzilla himself is a direct representation of the Atom Bomb. Godzilla regenerating representing countries still making Nuclear warheads even after the bombing of Hiroshima. Noriko did not "survive" by any means. You saw the movie twice but didn't talk about it. In the hospital her veins are turning black. Which is radiation poisoning. Which what represents actual events in history post war. Koichi's war is far from over. The director put clues all throughout this movie to set up a true horror story using a monster based on real life events.

I think there’s many ways to interpret a film like this. Many things can be true and relevant. We don’t script these reviews they’re pretty off the cuff so things like Noriko’s neck at the end sometimes get missed. Amazing Insight into the themes of the film. Thanks for sharing!

It's a original Star Wars type happy ending- they win a victory but the enemy is far from vanquished & there is bittersweetness such as Noriko miraculously surviving but at a possible terrible cost, either through poisoning or mutation.

Taichibana(sp?) did not put the seat in, it was already in the plane- but he did explain to him how to work it. 😉😎👍

I disagree. I think there’s plenty of cues that Tachibana installed the ejector seat.
The mission briefing scene doc specifically mentions that japanese planes don’t have them.
The following scene shows Tachibana inspecting the seat.
When Tachibana tells Koichi about the seat Koichi looks surprised and thanks him. To which Tachibana orders Koichi to live.
      appreciate the comment!

@@herdofnerdsshow if I recall correctly, some other UA-camr has already identified this plane as an actual plane of german design, apparently many of the details of the ships, etc. are well thought out and either homages to the original Gojira lore or actual details of post World War Japan. Of course, I am taking them at their word.

interesting i did not know that. If that’s the case then u might be right. I thought it was more in line with the plot to have Tachibana install the seat. Maybe he just repaired it or something?

@@herdofnerdsshow I saw it again last night, I think you might be overthinking it. He simply explains to him how it operates in the flashback- I think he was just moved by Koichi's desperate love to ensure Akiko's future. The seat was labeled in german, other german speaking viewers said they knew what was up when they saw it earlier. I have been somewhat obsessed with Minus One since I first saw it, so have seen a multitude of videos on it since & reading comments. 😉
