  • Our second day of the Trans BC took us from the steeps of Fernie to the more "enjoyable" trails of Panorama. We had our work cut out for us to see the insane panoramic views that the terrain had to offer!
    The video is quite long, the stages were just so epic!

    Awesome vid! You and TJ were flying on stage 4!! I ended up riding Panorama the weekend after the race and stage 2 was a great trail! There was a bit of black trail on stage 5 (the sharp right after all the tape where it gets steep - I had a nice OTB not making one of the corners there), but still a pretty gnarly blue. Pumped for the next vids on the rest of the stages!

    So cool! Im doing an enduro race here in Norway as soon as I can. Looks like SO much fun!
    How much would you say the integrity of your back wheel diminished with that spoke getting fucked up?

    • @alexthemtbr
      @alexthemtbr  7 років тому

      I broke another within the stage so I was down to 26 spokes. So quite a bit 🙃

    Do you miss the Float DHx2 that you ran on your Yeti when you ride your Firebird?

    I have had similar problems with DT straight pull spokes and thought it was just me. In Vital MTB's bike check of Rude's 5.5 his mechanic hints talked about switching to J-bend spokes during comps due to "feel" and his comfort level.
    Any thoughts on this (i.e. straight pull v. j bend spokes) for long term durability and crash survival? Is the breaking/bending of spokes a height/weight or a biking style thing? For example since I'm 6'4 and 200 lbs will I always need a beefier rim build than a 5'10" 150 lb rider? From my experience, I have broken all types of spokes but on average the j-bend (32 h rim FWIW) seem to take a hit a little better than similar spec. straight pulls. Although this maybe due to 28 straight-pull v 32 j-bend?
    Here is the vital MTB I'm revering to on Rude's bike....I think its around 2:30 his mechanic quickly mentions the spokes.

    Following your mechanical (broken spokes) did you have to change your riding style? i.e. searching for smoother lines wherever possible, staying on the brakes a little more to avoid harsh hits, etc? Or did you still ride your heart out? haha

    • @alexthemtbr
      @alexthemtbr  7 років тому

      Adrian Gallo only just avoided harsh bottom outs. That's what would really break the wheel. So g-out river crossings and bigger drops were taken slowly
