This is an amazing I mean amazing mini series. Brilliant acting, excellent writing and the characters are so compelling. I have watched it several times and the last two episodes I swear to you by the middle of episode 5 I am an emotional mess puffy eyes, can’t stop the tears. The last five minutes are so powerful .
I loved this character, He didn't deserve to die, he even had the best lover who wasn't guilty either... I cried with the memory and even more with his death
It devastated me. I was crying for 15 minutes while this scene played on all the way through the end of the episode and for quite a while afterwards. My husband came over and hugged me to comfort me. I still get emotional thinking about it. I loved Collin so much. 💔
This episode wrecked me in so many ways. I identified with Collin so much. I was diagnosed with epilepsy when I was 17 years old. I was a shy, socially awkward 20 something year old when I came out of the closet. I was also naive and sometimes searched for love in the wrong places. And I was intensely paranoid about STDs in my 20s when I was single. Colin was such a sweet kid and he quickly grew on me and became my favorite character on the show. To see him go through this and die in such a tragic manner left me in tears. I literally cried for almost 15 minutes at the end of the episode. It absolutely gutted me, not just for the character, but also for all the countless of our gay brothers who got sick and died of this terrible disease in the 80s, and also for the sheer privilege I had as a teenager of the 90s that I didn't have to witness in person so much loss and death amongst our community. Such an amazing show!! Bravo for the writing and the acting. 🏳️🌈💔
I encourage all gay men , lesbian bisexual and transgender brothers and sisters 45 and younger to watch this. Not only watch this but understand this time period in the USA and globally. AIDS took an astonishing amount of our people and history with it. Everyone should be educated on what this did to your community in the 80’s and how society on a whole reacted and treated us. We must never go back to the time. It requires a political balance of staying active, alert and engaged.
It was 10x worse in the US. But now......young black women make up for nearly half of all new infections. There is a legacy of distrust between medical authorities and black Americans....for very good reasons. Such as the Tuskegee Syphilis Experiments
Omg i have just finished the series, and all deaths were really sad, but this one hit me hard, because my personality is very similar, but the meaning for me is that, you can not be aware of everything all the time, and you can't deprive yourself in order to avoid dangers , you need to enjoy live in a responsible way collecting experiences that give a sense of life.
I'm watching this series right now....fuck....I couldn't stop crying for poor Colin and Henry. This is the magic of TV, it can make you feel so sad, even though you know they are imaginary characters. Rest in Peace to all those who have died from AIDS....it can strike anyone, doesn't matter if you're gay or straight , black or white, rich or poor, disease doesn't discriminate.
My mum is Welsh and makes me cry with Colin dies as she says sorry darling he’s gone 😢😢 Best British TV series brilliant acting gut wrenching story with bits that made me smile La ❤❤❤
Sorry I do not agree with you. There is absolutely nothing wrong with enjoying your sexuality, so "sleeping around" is a pejorative term on the first place. We should not based our perception of people on how much do they have sex or not. Sex is a thing that concerns to the participants only; since they only need to worry about protecting from STDs and consent. Colin's death is hurtful because he didn't live enough and had just found his place to be himself.
@@sheilatorres5312 Ma’am we know. His character was the “innocent one” which dispelled the myth that “just b/c you don’t sleep around doesnt mean you can’t get it” in the beginning all the characters were all having sex with each other and we assumed they’d all end up positive but they all turned up negative (besides the main character). With Colin’s character there was a “naive innocents” that made up hurt the most by his death
@@starelise1387 I get your point. Just wanted to mention I don't see a correlation between innocent and naive. I understand Colin's character was to show the impact AIDS had on every individual, regardless of their sexual activity or frecuency. My point with your main comment is that I think you have a strange position towards him, every death in this series was excruciatingly sad because they were hesitant about HIV. And assuming he was the innocent one seems odd to me, since, like I mentioned, there is no correlation between being innocent and naive
I assume you are aware that it only takes one exposure to get HIV. Few of us were "innocent" in that era if by innocence you mean never having sex . I know... I was there. Not a day goes by that I don't wonder how I survived it.
Sorry to jump in on this discussion. I think both of you raise some valid points. I agree that Collin was naive and innocent in the sense that he doesn't seem as worldly or street smart as his friends. This is what makes his death so tragic to me. Due to his naiveté he had unprotected sex with someone who got him sick. This underscores the point that this illness has nothing to do with "promiscuity". It's all about the choices you make when having sex with another person. You have to do so responsibly and safely. I think often bigoted heterosexuals assumed that if a gay man caught HIV is because he was sleeping around. Collin's story illustrates that this wasn't always the case. So we shouldn't judge because for some guys it only took one time, one ill-fated decision to catch it. And it's incredibly sad and tragic regardless of how they caught it.
Poor Colin ... but Olly did a wonderful subtle piece of acting. He sinks to the floor. Not just because of Colin. But he realised Aids is a death sentence, and it can be anyone next. RIP to all those who lost their lives to the Aids virus, and sending strength and love to those living with HIV. 🏳️🌈💖💐🏳️⚧️
La! The kind people were always there back in the 80s like Jill, I see a lot of her in my mum who was in her 20s at the time, and it breaks me as I know this series brought her pain. Rest in power to those who passed away at the time, your names live on through the people who cared about you🩵
I loved this character, He didn't deserve to die, he even had the best lover who wasn't guilty either... I cried with the memory and even more with his death
Jill's reaction was perfect. I still cry whenever I see this. Colin's mother was so sweet.

Colin was my favourite character
Both Colin and his mum were so sweet
This scene kills me. So tragic. The whole series is the best of British tv I’ve ever seen! ❤❤❤❤
Colin’s story is absolutely heartbreaking
Colin's death was the 1,2 punch in the gut.

I agree but this should be more uk than usa
It was 10x worse in the US.

The music in this is almost too beautiful for the sadness on screen.
Queen's 'Who Wants to Live Forever' is the perfect choice for this, fits the emotional atmosphere

song?
The one from the credits is "who wants to live forever" originally sung by Queen, although this version is hard to tell who sings it
It’s Brian May (the guitarist of Queen) singing.

@@sheilatorres5312 it's actually the original. Who yourelistening to is Brian May. He sings the intro of the song
