ETH feels like a principal that was brought to a troubled school to get the students in line. Man Utd has had a player over manager culture and it seems the younger players didn’t train with the ambition and discipline you’d expect. Ronaldo and later on Sancho’s case was about ETH setting a precedent that under his tenure the manager will not tolerate any player getting out of line. He even brought his good pupils from back in Ajax to set an example for the rest of the players. If he remains at the club I think it would be for the sake of trying to stabilize the player culture in United while INEOS finds a new manager to inherit a less toxic club and take them to new heights.

Hi Laurence, I'm a United fan that enjoys the content of the channel. Everything you're saying is the truth. The team is completely devoid of any confidence whatsoever and there's no star player to knick us a goal to win a game of football. The team itself is terrible and ETH is so devoid of any ideas, we have become a fallen giant, fighting for the premier league title every season to becoming a mid table club at best. We simply just don't have that star studded team and brilliant manager anymore like we did a little over a decade ago under Fergie. These problems are more than the manager as we've seen already its poor signings mixed with poor ownership under the glazers and a toxic mentality at the club. I honestly don't know we fix things from here to be honest. I'd probably start with getting rid of the Glazers and hiring a better scouting network at the club and try to build around that but with how poor we have become it will be very hard to attract good quality players now without European Football or at least playing an attractive expansive way of football like we used to do.

I applaud ETH coming to a sinking ship in the first place. He has bailed out a lot of water but the people on the ship are yelling at him while he’s doing so. Like he’s the one at fault for the damage to the ship. The pundits seldom give a fair assessment of the situation. I suppose this is because United is player one.

@waavyjones9868 ETH is not the only problem, he was touted to become the next big thing and did incredibly well at Ajax. Slot was the same yet he's doing fine at Liverpool so far. Yes Ten Hag has had some blunders over the years and is responsible for some shortcomings at the club however the board and the players are predominantly to blame over the manager himself. Let's get this straight this is not simply a manager problem only, there have been quality managers walk into our club for years now like Mourinho and Ragnick just to a few and it's always the same exact problems. We need better players, a better board and to change the mentality of the club. It's no coincidence that Chelsea have gone downhill and haven't won anything since Abhramovic was forced to leave the club.

Hi Laurence, another MU supporter here. The teams morale has been very up and down since Marcus left his purple patch. I suppose he was covering the gaping holes of the coaching. We have loads of high end internationals, some in managed decline (every club has them). This is a mentality, cultural and coaching mess. INEOS have their work to do but I knew it was going to be like this. The club has been rotting for years and years. A few cups wont change the situation of THIS season

The voice in back of my head saying INEOS wouldn't extend his contract after failing to replace him the whole summer, gave him another 100 million just to go back on their decision after 11 games. It would undermine their decision making, it would really bad on their reputation, and a lot of people would lose their trust on them already.

The only opposition I have of Ten Hag is his inability to bench underperforming front man for their lack of clinicality, creativity and lack of defending

It's kind of weird because Zirkzee can't finish well but he makes the team play much better and helps create more chances. It's just that ETH never wants to try anything new like playing two strikers. I would love to see Hojlund and Zirkzee up front but then that would mean benching one of Bruno/Rashford/Garnacho, but I really don't care who gets benched as long as we win matches, and fans might be angry he benches a fan favorite but they would quickly get over that if we start scoring and winning. Just tired of the same old 4-2-3-1. And then when he makes subs in a game he just changes a RW for a RW, a striker for a striker, just one for one subs that don't make a big difference in the flow or tactics. He rarely ever makes a sub that actually changes the shape of the team so it's always easy to defend for the opposition since they never have to adapt to anything different.

The confusing thing is that ETH is a tactically and technically good coach. That’s the reputation and respect he’s earned over his whole career.
At the same time players look like they don’t know what they’re supposed to do at times.
But the same thing happened under mourninho and ragnick.
Not to mention the staff they’ve had training them have been world class for years.
How many great people are going to coach here before we stop saying “Change the coach”.
More likely this is a mental issue: the one thing that’s different at Utd than any other club is the insane pressure and gravity of playing there. It’s more intense than any other club in the world.
Perhaps the “deer in the headlights” issue isn’t due to lack of training or tactical information, but stress, anxiety and tension.
The things that cause most of us to make poor decisions and stifle our flow.

Clearly ETH needs to go but he‘s also clearly not the only problem so just sacking him won‘t fix anything. Utd in kind of a bad situation here since it looks like you just burn your next manager like this.

While it is time to show Ten Hag the door, how can then we ensure that the next manager will move the club foward? What I am tired of is that we seemed to be stuck in this endless cycle of optimism, decline and stagnation for the past decade. Does it mean that we have to just keep giving the job to someone until we get someone who fits? Isn't this somewhat insane? What would make someone who is a decent manager consider Man United if it means the team will implode will in 12-18 months?

A change in the culture has to be the focus of the new structure. Man Utd have spat out promising managers and players again and again. The fault is not at an individual, it’s the whole system.

I wouldn’t say it’s sh*t, but it is seriously underperforming. 5 goals in 7 games can be improved on my most players and managers in the league. There is something wrong with the culture at Man Utd that is causing players and managers to underperform again and again.

I would go for Sebastian Hoeness from stuttgart and bring him in. he doesn't have great resume but he's football style and his character would definitely help us. Ruud will be also an option for this season as we already wrote the season off but losing 14 points in first 7 weeks.

As a Utd fan, I don’t really want him to go right now. If they find a genuine talent that will come, sure. I mean, let’s say they somehow convinced Alsonso, that would be cool, he’s been highly impressive. But I don’t see him coming to utd. And nobody else out there and available seems like a good choice.

I just dont see how the team improves from here. I wanted him to stay after the fa cup to see how he does under a proper footballing structure and with another transfer window and although some of the underlying numbers have improved this just cannot continue we're 14th and can't score a goal. Amad is our only consistent creative attacker and he keeps benching him for an injured garnacho and he has rashford our only consistent goalscorer playing as a touchline winger. We need a proper left footed left back and he wanted an injury prone reguilon on loan ro cover for two injury prone lbs and then wanted rid of regular early, he didn't give alarm a chance who is playing well for benfica consistently and he won't give amass a chance. Just so many poor decisions in my opinion that I can't make sense of

When the Glazers put Utd up for sale, we had literally run out of money, that’s why the glazer kids did it. Everything we get from here is something iNEOS put in or generate and that includes in the pitch. JImbob doesn’t not strike me as an endlessly patient or generous man. They can’t afford to completely write off this season hence he has to go at this point.

@laurencemckenna talking individual season obviously. But....
      - rashford... had his highest scoring season under eth
      - mctominay... highest scoring in his career and became fairly vital.
      - Dalot.... better player all round.
      - kobbie... brought him in so can't compare but I'm taking it 🤣
      - Garna.... same as kobbie
      - hojlund.... highest goal scoring season
      - AWB... was amazing year 1 and was a big part why we won the carbao Cup locking up maximin
Now under no circumstances am I saying he has made these guys 100% better players. But they have had their best individual season under ETH in some way IMO.
Just consistency seems to never be able to come. Maybe because united are allergic to letting a manager have his 3rd year....

The drop off from the 1st season to the 2nd season has to be studied. I can't name one player he failed to improve then. AWB literally dribbled through Rodri and Stones, Rashford had his best season under him, Dalot did so well, he brought on Garnacho and Mainoo, used Kambwala and other youngesters, Fred looked such a utility player, Scott had his best season last yr. We beat City, Pool, Arsenal, Chelsea, Spurs at OT. About Sancho, it started so well in 22/23, his goals against Liverpool, he gave him 6 months off, then he came back and scored against Leeds in the 2-2, all seemed well.
2nd season, I just dk what went so wrong. It's beyond injuries.
I don't think he is a bad manager, not at all. If INEOS had been here since the start of 22/23, things would have been much better.
Not against sacking him but we need to get the perfect new manager, because if we are to win the league in 2028, the new manager has to be that league manager. But, looking at our fan reaction in these worse times, I doubt they will give the new manager even 2 yrs. The media is exceptional in playing it's part.
I would want to sack ETH only if we get an ideal manager and he is guaranteed atleast 2 seasons without pressure of results, else we won't come out of this cycle.

Last season was the perfect storm or trying to change the playing style, some serious declines of key players and the worst injury list in years all happening at the same time.
But that doesn’t excuse this season. Injuries are not as great, he knows about the players in decline and he was trying to change the playing style again…
The Villa game was the end of it for me. They went there to not lose and sacrificed the attack to do so. It shows ETH has given up on his vision, just like Solskjaer did, like Mourinho and Van Gaal did.
