    Such a good channel. I love the candid “I don’t know what I’m doing” because that’s me. I’m buying an FJ62 and trying to educate myself via UA-cam. Your channel is encouraging and inspiring. Thank You.

    The most important point that you forgot to mention is that UCAs in the front fix camber when it comes to alignment. Yes they give you about 2inches of droop but the most important factor is that they keep your spec alignment which helps your car drive like it should and not wear your tires unevenly. Love how your rig looks man! Keep up the great content coming!

    • @bugobe
      @bugobe 5 років тому

      Don't forget about caster too. The stock UCAs on Toyotas give you almost 0 caster as it is, when you lift it you lose what little there is and the truck is a pain to drive straight.

    Shopping for my 5th gen upgrade to my first gen now and I've just been playing all these videos while I'm at work. Love how much you appreciate your wife and how much food she takes care of you with! Rad, informative channel man. I'm sure I'll be in here a lot more once I actually own one.

    The factory makes the control arms purposefully weak so that in an accident they bend first because those arms are cheap and easy to replace. When you have really beefy aftermarket arms sometimes you can bend or break the mounts or subframe etc

    Jason,
    I really enjoy watching all your videos and seeing how your 4Runner has progressed from the start. Congratulations on your latest and greatest lift and bumper upgrades. You are blessed to be able to have all those amazing upgrades and modifications done to your 4Runner. I have a 2006 Limited 4Runner and wish I could do the upgrades you have done, but unfortunately I don't have the money and hope someday in the future to start upgrading my 4Runner with the look and functions I want. God Bless and looking forward to more videos!

    Looking at purchasing an Icon kit for my 4runner as well. Good video, great editing. Love the undercarriage shots where you can see everything moving. It's neat seeing the body move independently of the frame within the body mounts. The 5th gen 4runner is the end result of 30+ years in the off road industry. My old 3rd gen was an absolute tank, I can't wait to build up my new 5th gen

    Man, I just purchased a 2019 Off Road Premium (Fiance wanted "leather" because of dog hair cleanup) and judging from some of these comments I probably shouldn't discuss or post any info about it! I enjoy your videos and also your personality that comes through in your enthusiasm while interacting with everybody around you. Keep doing what you're doing and enjoy the rig, your time with friends and family, and the beauty of the open spaces you find along the way!

    My name is Jason too. Looks AMAZING Jay.. ICON 7 is my dream lift. lol Congrats. Also. FYI. YOUR EMERGENCY BRAKE CABLE GUIDE that is attached to the stock drivers side REAR LOWER Control arm and has the E brake cable running THROUGH IT..... .... Get a pair of pliers and grab it and STRAIGHTEN it out so the the sheathing does not start being CUT by the cable guide. I just so happen to be a Mechanical Engineer by trade and a back yard mechanic for over 32 years. With owing over 100 cars in my life (hand to God) I've had my share of lift installs. So even with all my experience, I know enough to let a shop do it. I am to old to be rolling on the ground (47 lololol). Now I can afford to pay some (complaining about his job) 30 year old to do it. A lift really helps. If I had one I would do them all day long. lol Again, Congrats and God Bless. Oh and Thank you.
    My questions if you don't mind.....
    1- Does it come with Front Diff drop kit and brackets for the reservoir shocks, front and back.?
    2- did you use the 52700 rear coil springs or the 3" over lander 52800 springs?

    • @slixxster5118
      @slixxster5118 5 років тому

      3- Were the rear brake lines also replaced during this process with extended ones?
      Awesome suspension BTW!

      Very different vehicles. The Xterra is on the small side, the 4Runner is a big midsize and the Tundra is just plain big. I borrowed my ex-brother-in-laws 2nd Gen Sequoia for the Mojave Trail & Owen's Valley, Death Valley, etc. It's a completely different vehicle though I loved it in it's own right. I was surprised how comfortable I could be wrangling such a monster.

    You have a nice setup. Asking a mechanic questions while he is working is not a good idea. You can tell you were distracting him because he gave u very vague/brief answers. Hes trying to concentrate on the task. So u got him trying to install the stuff correctly, and answer your questions. You need to let the guy concentrate so he can do his job correctly and not make mistakes. It's better to ask your questions before or after the job. Or add narration during editing.

      Yep. Been there, before. "Sir, I don't mind talking to you, just let me know what you want me to do; focus on your vehicle getting the work done properly and efficiently, or stop what im doing so I can focus on you."
      To his credit, he is trying to glean information that some of us that have worked with our hands for years, seem to have within our double helixes - which I can respect. He is just doing it the wrong way, at the wrong time. If people would use their Google devices for something other than social media, the World would be a better place.
      I just remembered a few times in my early years of wrenching where I had a customer asking me all kinds of questions while I was trying to work. I politely left the vehicle, went to my manager and asked him if he wanted to pay me to be interviewed, or to perform the necessary repairs to the vehicle. Of course he came out, took the customer back to the corrale where he belonged, and I finally got the vehicle finished.
      I will always say that Informed customers are better that the alternative, but damn...

    I want that Icon setup... been dreaming of it since my first overland trip in my 4Runner. I need some stronger coils before my Baja trip, but I don't have the budget for a stage 7 this year. I'll probably just do something like the OME coils for now. I'm curious to see how well your CBI back bumper holds up, I've heard both good and bad about their rear bumpers hold up. I had a good laugh when you brought out the cookies. They look exactly like the ones we make here (secret ingredient is vanilla pudding). They are fantastic. Still loving your channel... wish I had enough time to video more of my adventures.

    Here we see Jason “justifying” his purchases. This is a result of 2 communities clashing and bashing heads. This is a result of people being “too critical” and very negative. Whether you’re a hardcore rubicon crawler-Wheeler dude or an instagram weekend warrior - the fact is - we are all entitled to use our funds and resources to buy things we like. Also, as men, can’t we all just say we love the GEAR? And MODS? What a bunch of children we all sound like. Smh.

    Definitely enjoy watching the videos. makes me miss my old 97 Tacoma and 99 4 runner, but I did luck out on a quite capable rig that's totally stock and goes everywhere all my friends in their fairly modded Toyotas and jeeps go. So until my $7000.00 H3 with Adventure pkg stops getting the job done, I'll just watch and dream about the day I win the lottery and can have a new Toyota lol. Keep making vids so I can live the Toyota life vicariously through you =)

    The rear upper control arm links are designed that way to give torsional resistance. The bushings have no flex in them so when your suspension articulates or you take a corner it's relying on the sway bar and those upper links to keep the vehicle flat. You would notice added body roll without them. Maybe the Kdss will pick up the slack.

    Hey Jason,
    Just remember when you increase (or decrease) the preload on your coil overs you will need to get another alignment.

  • @EmpTy-kf2rq
    @EmpTy-kf2rq 5 років тому +6

    No, alignment person won’t adjust the rear arms. Better flex because the OEM sleeve doesn’t rotate within the bushings whereas those do. The reason you need to reset the bushings on all OEM bushings after doing a lift otherwise you’ll tear the OEM bushings.

    Love watching your channel. Can you tell me what you use for editing your videos. You have great scene cuts and voice over in some of your videos. I am

    Keep up the great work.

    Great video. How was the on road ride quality with the Icon? I hear it can be a little too stiff. Been looking at the Icon stage 2 but still kinda on the fence with some of the reviews and the stiffness of the ride. Is this something you have experienced?

    Jason you should mention that you only need the rear track bar for KDSS equipt 4Runners. Although the Stage 7 comes with it, my Stage 2 needed it because of the KDSS so it was an extra cost.

    I still enjoy the channel, but from an editing/viewing standpoint the constant cut ins and cut backs are very distracting and frustrating to the flow of the video. It’s become somewhat of a signature edit for you, but it’s very noticeable in this video. It used to be amusing for a quick cutback to explain one thing in depth, but when it happened 4 times in a span of 10 minutes it takes away from the overall production. Just as I’d feel I was getting into what was going on you’d cut back to a 2 minute ramble about something. Anyway, just one persons perspective.
    Have been enjoying the truck updates-it builds the anticipation for what’s yet to come. Looking forward to more adventures-come explore Texas, would love to see your take on Big Bend!

    Nice film. I have icon stage 7 on my FJ cruiser as well. I went with the Billet aluminum parts. However it was not necessary. Looks cool but the metal tubes would have been fine. The system makes lots of noise. But you know that already. I've been running the setup for about 5 years. With no problems. One thing you might want is. Total chaos front lower control arms. The race version gives you more ground clearance. And man are they stronger than stock. I even jump my FJ now and then. No problem doing that ether. Have you had any trouble with your setup?

  • @NathanKKennedy
    @NathanKKennedy 5 років тому

    Around 18:30, you should where the control arms go and I've never seen any video do that before. Thank you so much!
