@@neilhamilton4511 There was a time when all was thus, you'd think such a place devoid of all things...emptiness ought not to bring pleasure, seemingly nothing to do - nothing to ponder, nothing. But it brings a peace a true peace that one cannot even imagine and you are completely aware not lessened by it at all, wonder it for all eternity in complete peace without want of anything, yet whole. Unfortunately all it takes is one to spot a tiny little star upon the canvas, no bigger than a grain of sand, the deepest void cannot hide it, once seen it cannot be unseen and you cannot help but look at it, focus on it and therefore be drawn to it, how does something so small capture one's attention so, funny. You see the abyss is not someplace people visit once they are broken by suffering or by being born when they never asked for it, they are broken because they left the abyss. No matter what, you can never go back, not once you see the light, fight or cry all one wishes there is no road that leads home I guess we just carry it in ourselves, hence the loneliness since you can almost feel at home then, but it's hollow - ironic having a feeling more empty than the void itself (for one brings peace the other an eternal torment a reminder of things lost and deemed irrecoverable).

This is super long and so much after the show that it's really irrelevant but gosh this show is beautiful. I watched a review of this show, and the girl put it together perfectly -"It's about a love story between two men, their relationship and how everything around them is influenced because of their game of cat-and-mouse".
The first season illustrates the fall of Will Graham into Hannibal's trap, a game of prey and predator, while he tries to differentiate between fiction and reality. Will falls for Hannibal's charm, as does everyone around him, and during this, Hannibal isn't obsessed with Will, he's merely curious, slightly entertained, as a bored man without understanding or company may play around with ants on the floor. Hannibal gets Will locked up, then he realises the potential of WIll- that they could learn to understand each other
The first half of the second season is about Will learning, plotting, growing closer and closer to Hannibal, even though he may not have realised it, learning to think like Hannibal, act like him, understand him- become him in order to capture him. He goes from a quick-tempered near-mad man (an image of Garrett Jacob Hobbs, in a way) and morphs into the cold and calculating Hannibal, who sees everyone as pigs and him as the only predator. But it is human nature to bond with others like you, especially when you are alone. Bedelia is half a predator, but she doesn't amuse Hannibal the way Will does, and like a bored man starved of company, he gravitates to Will, bonding with him and forming this reliance on him that most would simply call "love" or "obsession". It's borderline reciprocated, as seen from Will phoning Hannibal to warn him. He has grown to be amused by Hannibal as well, as it isn't really "love' per say, but its something. Hannibal stabbing Will is a metaphor of cutting himself, his personality out of Will, and it hurts Hannibal as much as he hurts Will. Think about it- he's leaving the only person in the entire world he thinks is interesting behind, possibly destroying him.
The third season starts with Will not wanting to take revenge at all, only telling Hannibal he forgives him, in other words he understands him, and why he did what he did. That is the very definition of a soul-bond/love- to understand and accept the other person unconditionally. Hannibal sends Will the broken man in the shape of a heart- he's passionate about Will, not sexually not physically but purely emotionally. He misses having someone on his caliber around, and honestly, Will is too. Will is juxtaposed by Alana- whereas Will is understanding and forgiving, she is ruthless, keen to put Hannibal behind bars. Hannibal starts to believe that this is the only part of Will that is left- under normal circumstances I believe he would've realise, but with his yearning for understanding, I think he overlooked that Will still has himself inside, so he turns against Hannibal, and gets him locked up by utilising the same yearning.
Second half. During these episodes, Hannibal had already been extremely obsessed with Will from the past seasons, but now he is not only obsessed but also absolutely in love with the idea of him. There isn't any concrete evidence, but think of how he acts when he sees Will again. Will got him into prison, yet he is everything but angry at Will. IT has gotten to a point where he'd rather be dead than be in a world without Will. You may argue he is not, persay, in love with Will, but he is definitely in love with the idea of someone understanding him, and that person happens to be Will. This half is a mirror of the first half- Will realises that a part of him is still Hannibal, and this part grows to a point where he finally, on the cliff scene, understands that he'd rather die than be in a world without Hannibal. But his rational side knows that with Hannibal in the world, he'd never find peace. He left for three years, and it took him a week to fall back into Hannibal's personality. This is where he starts to yearn and ache of Hannibal- someone who understands him. Someone he is passionate and cares deeply enough.
I'll use a very common counterargument when people discuss gay tv couples. If Will were female, would Hannibal be in a romantic relationship with them? Answer is, no, not in this show. She and Hannibal would be in the exact same position Will and Hannibal are in.
I'd understand it if you didn't want to call this relationship of acceptance, understanding and forgiveness between two men who are barely capable of such emotions anymore "Love". But if you are strongly against it because of the sexual undertones that the word Love often accompanies, you don't understand the writer's implication. Will and Hannibal are not "bros"- they aren't comrades, they're not really 'husbands', who counter each other's weaknesses and strengths and with an unconditional love. Their's is the love of the two last people on the planet, and how the only person they will ever have an emotional relationship with is with each other.

Actually Will didn´t put Hannibal in prison, Hannibal turned himself in. But, IMO, if Will´s carácter was female instead of male I do think that there would be a strong chance that a romantic relationship could form (It happened in the books with Clarice). That being said, I do not think they are gay. The last sentence is a great way to describe their type of love.

Pati it’s more obvious from Hannibal’s perspective, but when you think about it, it could also be Will’s. Hannibal brought Will into his own strength, and Will instilled Hannibal with a weakness.

I'd say this captures Will and Hannibal's relationship perfectly
Will and Hannibal's relationship was homoerotic and deep. Their minds were fused in an intense connection. They made the choice that they wouldn't be able to live without eachother and surviving separation was almost impossible. Will made Hannibal feel a way he has never felt before, an intense, stabbing love and lust for someone. They lusted each others company and affection, even killing people just to be near each other. Although their love was toxic, they deserved and were ultimately made to be with each other. They were soulmates.
Why's it gotta be sexual though? I haven't finished season 3, so I dunno if they've kissed in this show or shown physical affection but, people can love each other without any sexual attraction. Sex doesn't = love.

This show is truly amazing. It started out with a man who didn't know who he was, truly. It ended with a man who knew exactly what he was and found the beauty in it. The arc of Will Graham was thrilling, how we could watch him change from the man running away to the man who embraced it. There are no other shows out there like this, not through its few seasons. This show is unique and wonderful.

I don't think Hannibal and Will are gay, I think they had something much deeper. They loved each other, but with their minds, not their bodies. They were so fused that they couldn't live without each other. He had messed up Will, and Will was the first to tap into him in a way he couldn't explain. Will made him think about things, and Hannibal made Will let go. They were in love, but not with each other, with the idea of each other.
So it's co-dependence disorder.

+fbiuzz It makes sense. They both need each other, whether they admit it or not. They constantly are thinking of each other. Even after what he did to Abigail, he still needs Hannibal. Will did admit that he was extremely tempted run away with them. I strongly believe that if Hannibal wouldn't have killed her, Will would have left with them. Ever since the beginning Hannibal took quite an interest in Will and he felt deeply betrayed towards the end. In my opinion it may be love, but not the romantic kind.
You explainded it all, how can you say it isn't a real love ( not the romantic kind ) ? They need each other, Bedelia did say that Hannibal was in love and asked Will if he felt the same and he didn't respond at the time. That explained how confused Will was about his own feelings. And for Hannibal, he loved Will so much ( actually, we can see it in other ways too but...I like to see it in that way ) that he let himself be arrested to let Will know where to search him if needed.
And we all know how the serie ends...He wouldn't have done that if that was just a platonic interest.

I really like how the series kinda made hannibal a grimm's fairy tail sort of villain. As in he's elegant, has tones of gothic horror around him (obvious comparison being a vampire but i won't start that rant) and the series constantly features forests and snowy areas. Had this been set in the 1800's Hannibal would be made into a folkloric story immediately.
2024 and this song is still the masterpiece. It is powerful and stunning. One of the best fan made theme song.❤❤❤

Bryan Fuller describes Hannibal and Will’s relationship being viable because, if you imagine that Hannibal is the greatest chess player on earth, he can beat everyone hands down and with no effort whatsoever. Imagine if you’d spent 30 years being that person with the belief that you’ll always be alone, and simply amusing yourself by coming up with ever more intricate and out there ways to beat everyone at chess (murdering people and eating them.) Then all of sudden you meet someone who can play the game just as well as you can (season 1 Will); who might even beat you (season 2 Will) and who would give you reason to give up the game to take on the rest of the world together (season 3 Will.)
Hannibal never desires to kill Will (otherwise he’d be dead) because Will intrigues him so much and he doesn’t want to lose that. Will desires to kill Hannibal on a number of occasions, at the end of Season 1 in the Hobbs kitchen, in the middle of Season 2 when he sends Matt to kill Hannibal, in the middle of Season 3 when he attemps to stab Hannibal at the Uffizi. To put it simply, they get over this. They don’t exist in a permanent state of desiring to kill each other, it fluctuates, and really it’s not the most important thing about their relationship (unbelievably!)
With regards to why people ship it, their relationship is powerful, interesting, unusual, intricate, well written and performed, the actors are attractive, complement each other and their conversation is natural to write. Also in the show it is acknowledged that there is a love between them, and I believe as the show continues, it will become more overt.
It’s not for everyone, in the same way that Hannibal isn’t for everyone for one reason or another. But Hannibal and Will quench the shaking ache of loneliness in each other, and that resonates with a lot of people.
I hope I’ve managed to explain why they’re drawn to each other in the way that they are. You don’t have to ship it though! Enjoy the elements of the show you enjoy and post about those, and then other people can do the same. As a fannibal, you aren’t expected to enjoy Hannigram, so I wouldn’t worry about that. ^_^

It portraits with acurate presicion the dynamics between Hannibal and Will (actually, you can either think this is addressed to one from the other or viceversa) and summarizes many of the metaphors in the show. nolwenn moi aussi je recherche des choses dans ce genre. Enfin, c'est compliqué, mais en gros, plus c'est tordu, plus j'aime x) (ce qui explique pourquoi Hannibal est une de mes séries préférées. Psychologie, sentimebts sombres.... Hell yeah.)
