I played two of his albums pretty much on a loop when I was a student in 1979, " Brother To Brother" and " Nightwalker".....Gino is a musical genius, his music is timeless, great to see him doing this interview, he is clearly an authentic person.
I have listened to Gino Vannelli casually for a while, but recently started doing a deep-dive into his discography. So far, I am absolutely blown away from what I am hearing!
Oh my gosh what a story, I had never heard this before. it literally brought a tear to my eyes, so grateful Herb gave him that chance and we were given some truly incredible songs
I thrilled to Gino Vanelli's hit single "Wheels of Life" whenever it played on the radio, and that was the first time I noticed him. Though I didn't buy his records, I just always had a great feeling about him; there was something special there. Now I see what it is. The man is tuned in and goes where he is led Thanks for this interview!
Have been listening to Gino nearly all my life and it’s fantastic to see him still going strong 😍. What a voice, what a musician, what great lyricist, what a great song maker but the best thing is that he is a great example for all artists out their that humility and kindness is the way to go…
Growing up, my mom didn’t have much money, but she did have a bad ass stereo which sparked my appreciation for all kinds of music. I learned how to work that stereo at the age of 2, after that, I was my own DJ. Gino’s Brother toBrother album came out when I was 3 and was one of my favorites, specifically Wheels of Life. Today, it is still one of my favorites. I was so infatuated with him too...I think it was the hair.
I met Gino when he came to Ontario to audition for local agents. He was dressed like an Elvis imitator, a white jump-suit with some random blue sequins, not a design. His hair was like a big black afro. His one brother was on keyboards, playing bass with his feet, with a hired drummer. They sounded great.
Luckily I got to listen to Gino right back in the 70's because of a Hotel Musician buddy in Portugal. In the UK no one knew about him...Gino who? Still has probably the best male voice ever, still listen and love his music. Thanks Gino and Joe Vannelli for your songs.
Wonderful interview! To those artists of any age out there that are struggling, let me say to you that you have not cast your nets wide enough yet. Consider yourself fisherman and as a fisherman, you must cast your nets wide and deep in order to get ready for a catch. That’s exactly what Gino Vannelli did.
An agent asked me to go along with him, going to the bar in Toronto where Quebec and eastern acts came to audition in Ontario. We walked in while the band was playing and I was surprised to see a singe and a keyboard-synth player with a hired drummer. The singer looked like a bad Elvis imitator, random blue sequins on a white jump-suit. The agent said anyone can sing a fast song, shouting out play a slow song. The singer started "another rainy day in Montreal" and I was enthralled. It was Gino Vanelli with his brother on keys and a hired drummer. If you listen to Ginos' first album you'll hear synth sounds and passages that Prince copied for his first album.
I love Gino's music. His music has never disappointed me, and I've been listening to him since the seventies, since when I was a teenager starting out as a guitarist. I have seen him live three times in my life, but only once could I try to talk to him … I say "try", because even though I speak fluent English not being an English speaker, somehow there was no visual or verbal contact from Gino towards me; he did not even shake my hand, unlike others who were waiting in line to buy his CD-book, who were Europeans, who he greeted by talking to them and shaking hands with them. Furthermore, I'm not the one to judge the action he had towards me, but he must have a very big problem in his head to mark color differences, being Italian-Canadian. Anyway, even with that horrible experience I had with him, I still admire his music, which is the only good thing that I rescue from him.
Pena que não tem tradução ... mas uma coisa tenho certeza ... amo e muito Gino Vanelli ... I Love you my darling Gino Vanelli ♥️💞 ... vem para São Paulo... Brasil... nos dar sua presença linda e infinitamente maravilhosa ... sim ... vc Gino Vanelli... é um presente de Deus para nossos ouvidos ... I love you 💞 ...
I have listened to Gino for decades and never heard the whole story about getting signed with A&M. What great life advice! Gino, love your new music as much as the 70's music you created sir! I am looking for doors in my aviation career....
Herb Albert is a pretty decent guy! I’m glad Gino persisted in his vision. ❤️ Gino’s a pretty decent guy. Haha. I love his way of writing and expressing himself. Powerful. Human. Love
What an amazing interview. I met Gino in the 70’s backstage at a concert in Ottawa Canada. I was there to interview him for a radio show I did on CFGO. He had a gorgeous girl on each arm.
One of my favourite artists...his voice, his music, the lyrics of his songs...the number one in my list, in fact...and, even though I didn't know how humble he was u til now (no social media by that time) that is something one can always tell !!...I'm so glad I grew up by the time he did, and listened to all of his songs...lucky me (and many like me...'m pretty much sure) 😉👍
Nice interview, Geno has been part of my play list since I first heard him in the late 70’s, I still play his vinyl albums, and listen with joy. Thank you Brian 👏🏽
I always thought Gino was incredible in so many ways, the music's complexity and arrangements, the level of musicianship, his singing and lyrics, the synth sounds. But I bet I hadn't listened to my vinyl of his in 25-30 years. Lately, I've gone back to a lot of my favourite stuff and got his stuff out and have been re-examing it. His albums are so consistently good, there's no skpping sons, and I'd put an album like Brother to Brother up against the great Steely Dan albums, and I see as much of his stuff in them as the other way around. Given their revered status, that's quite a compliment. I saw him in Vancouver in the early 80s and I was blown away by how professional the show was, and the sound, for a big place, was equal to that.
I'm listening to this on New Years Eve 2020. What an exceptional way to invite in another decade! Gino is an amazing talent. My dream is to meet him. I'm in Jersey, we have plenty of venues. Please, I'm begging you Gino, please come to Jersey or NYC is fine too. Your voice is incredible. Your talent unparalleled! I'm looking for the door Gino! I will meet You!❣
Hola buenas noches si en México lo queremos mucho y te esperamos pronto volver a estar en tu concierto chulada de hombre que Dios te cuide bendiga abrazo
Thank you having this so we can watch it!!! It is a very inspiring story on how he started….not finding the door …. endless effort…. keep having faith … and suddenly he found the door, knocking it, got it opened and got a welcome…. Very, very inspiring story. Thank you. Although being a fan for years I only watched Gino on stage once. I will never forget that day.
Great video I love one of his songs I play all the time Wild Horses on You Tube it’s in my favs. I love the girl who plays the harmonica! Great song and thanks for sharing!
The fact that Gino showed up is a testament to his character.
Gino did not have to show up at this place to do this interview. He was so gracious.
What a class act to do this show! Never forget the little people...that's who made you big!

His hair hasn't left 1983. He's in 2023 but his hair just hasnt left the 1980's. I love it!
I met Gino when he came to a Toronto bar to audition for Ontario agents, 1980. He had a big afro.

He's an ace !
Hearing Gino talk, it's as though you can tell he's Canadian but also that he was meant for America.
One of the best male singers ever, up there with Sinatra, Presley, and Jones. And a well-spoken gentleman no less (no apparent prima-donna symptoms).
I am so happy to have found this channel! I love it!
