This is not a loophole. Being able to live in a home anyone buys and remove existing tenants is common sense. It's a loophole if we actually plan for buyers to NOT be able to remove tenants even if they themselves want to occupy it.
Lots of renters think they should be able to live there forever & without their rent ever raised. They don’t seem to realize they are renting, and if someone buys the house they have a right to move in or raise the rent.
Realtors are a resource of information. They are just providing information to the buyers. It’s up to the buyers to decide what they want to do after purchase.
This isn't a 'legal loophole', its just a condition of sale. As if they expect people to come buy a house in order to lose money and adopt squatters who are no longer honoring the lease they signed. Or maybe they think the original owner should just be chained to the squatters for life and house and support them forever, and be forbidden to ever sell? If KPIX thinks buying a house with squatters is the right thing to do.... why don't they do it, and give us an update on how things are going?
I guarantee 99% of the people defending these realtors could never afford an Oakland home much less Oakland rent. They’re so much closer to these renters than these property owners… like what is the disconnect.…
And then when we take up their sidewalks these buyers think I'm just going to park somewhere else😝😝😝😝. The front lawn is my front yard view -I don't mind if your front door faces mine. We still get the same sidewalk you do.
I got a spare room in my house in Sacramento for Morgan Love 😍 There needs to be laws to stop these ruthless profit seeking investors. People need housing!
they also need to get with the times and learn skills to further their careers. Unfortunately being an artist doesn't guarantee a competitive income for the Bay Area
James Lee True but there are factors out there that need to be considered as well. For example these tech companies need to start doing a better job hiring minorities. The Bay Area is a beautiful melting pot but it’s being gentrified due to minorities not being hired by these tech companies and thus not being able to afford to stay in the Bay. Also there needs to be better work dealing with low income properties. If you google or youtube low income housing San Francisco you will see there are people who are using those properties as income and don’t even live in them. One lady was interviewed in front of her nearly 3 million dollar home and was asked why she still has a below market rate apartment that she doesn’t live at and she was renting through air bnb, I forget her reply but she was caught red handed and she’s not the only one
What I don't get is how if it is a triplex, you get to move into one unit and evict all three. That sort of sets up a perverse incentive for people to do this.
Yes but you can't rent the property for 1 full year . Otherwise you have to pay the extenant the 1year you may $$$ or go to court n hold your renters rights
That artist has a huge amount of space. I wonder how low their rent is vs the market. What do they bring in monthly? Hard working families who are earn good money deserve that space.
We wouldn't need to have these homeowners "provide renters a place to live" if they didn't buy and rent out places for profit. People should only be allowed to own one home in CA. Two max in the US.
There is no shortage of houses, just people with decent credit banks will give mortgage loans to. There are about 16 million houses sitting vacant across the U.S. right now. People who lease house the people with bad credit the banks reject..... and already pay twice the property taxes homeowners do, which is one reason why rents are so high. If California passed such a ridiculous law forbidding rentals, there would just be twice as many houses sitting empty. Nobody is then going to doll out hundreds of thousands apiece to buy and then give other people houses, and pay their property taxes every year because "now there's so many extra". Incidentally you do realize that owing a house costs a lot more than renting? Homeowners pay a mortgage payment which is as much or more than rent, basically for life, AND thousands in property taxes, plus all the upkeep, roof, plumbing, HVAC, insurance, all utilities, liability, and on..... "getting" a house is only the beginning of a lot more bills. And the bank will evict you if you don't make your mortgage payment (called a foreclosure), and the County will publish then can sell your title if you don't pay taxes (called a tax sale).

Why would you buy a home if you couldn't evict non-paying tenants?
Why? Joe Biden
They're just explaining the laws today... They really aren't doing anything wrong
But they rent, they don't own. If realtors are showing the property, maybe start looking to rent elsewhere.
My thoughts exactly
Lots of renters think they should be able to live there forever & without their rent ever raised. They don’t seem to realize they are renting, and if someone buys the house they have a right to move in or raise the rent.
What's wrong with legally having people move out from your home that you own?
Realtors are a resource of information. They are just providing information to the buyers.
It’s up to the buyers to decide what they want to do after purchase.
It’s nothing wrong to move tenant out on your own buying money.

i'm sorry for anyone trying to find ANY home in california right now. Even on the north coast rents have doubled in the last 2 years
Doubled across the country. In on East coast central Florida, rent nearly doubled.
This is how our people have each other’s back. Wonderful
If they started showing my apartment I’d know it was time to move if I was ignorant enough to rent that is.
Let your conscience be your guide, I realize some don’t have one.
"Fair" and "Decent" rarely coexist where there is short supply and seemingly endless demand.
Wait - they informed people on how to follow the law!?! Preposterous, Ridiculous, Incomprehensible.
She's lucky to be able to live alone working as an artist. Most artists can't do that. Too expensive in Oakland? Move to Fresno.
And then when we take up their sidewalks these buyers think I'm just going to park somewhere else😝😝😝😝. The front lawn is my front yard view -I don't mind if your front door faces mine. We still get the same sidewalk you do.
yes to Measure Y we have closed this loophole in Oakland
Creepy how people in oakland have a blurry head

James Lee service employees can’t afford to live in the town they’re working in, not everyone can be a techie

If a new owner kicks everybody out and wants to store his bottle cap collection in them, its their right, there the owner.
Bad and heartless
Yes but you can't rent the property for 1 full year . Otherwise you have to pay the extenant the 1year you may $$$ or go to court n hold your renters rights
As opposed to an empty year?
There's a holders fee in sure that comes with stocks in bonds
i hate bay area real estate
An artist
I can't stop laughing 😆
"walk-throughs" are the worst.
It's called greed and selfishness, and step on other people to get on top.
That artist has a huge amount of space. I wonder how low their rent is vs the market. What do they bring in monthly? Hard working families who are earn good money deserve that space.
Not your home, you're just a renter. Move on.
I mean tho if you can't afford it move to a different state.
Oh well? Having rentals if something happen to my primary , I'll on paper tranfer another to a Grandkid have them evict.
I equally loathe rotten real estate agents, developers and stinking CA politicians who are urging density in our state.
Crime increases along with homelessness.
Accountability...
Same loophole in Santa Cruz County
artist is a side hustle till its not
No masks no SD who remembers these days?
The realistic alternative. Move to Bakersfield.
Realtors are real low life people who makes money from lying on both buyer and seller sides.
723lion In this case the realtor is not lying just taking advantage of an existing loophole in the local laws.
True that! One more dishonest than other.
Thank you.
They can move out and rent else where. If you are renting its not your home period!!
Michael Corleone shut up!
Michael Corleone Shut up!
😂why is landlord’s problem for people are homeless??
generations of families living there?....So they never sought to better themselves to actually own their homes?! Something is not right.
its not an option if you dont have the credit to obtain a mortgage SMH. what an ignorant comment
But im an artist, you can make art anywhere lady, even in Fresno or Bakersfield, better start packing
Heartless mfr’s

Yes it works both ways so i don't care if squatters cause these people problems they ask for it. Tenants can learn all there rights as well.
OCCUPY OAKLAND II 2020
Sickening greed.
People should only be allowed to own two homes or less.
The problem with liberals
