      Took me a minute to figure out what bwp stood for. Still getting used to this tank color. When the person sold me the bike, they even wrote red on the form out of habit. Good ole Honda red. Thanks for leaving a comment, and enjoy your BRP!

      @@XRLand One of the worst thing's Honda did IMO. Let's take all this history that we've curated over the years (BRP) and throw it out the window with a color change. I'd much prefer a BRP to a BWP.

    You were right to take it off. Seeing the before and after it looks cleaner. I removed it from the xr150 without any problem.

      Removing the parts sure allows the engine to show through, which is always nice to look at. Have fun on that XR150! Those are a blast to ride. Thanks for stopping by the channel and leaving a comment, too. Take care.

    Very informative, does this make it more reliable or less
    More power? Or same

    • @XRLand
      @XRLand  18 днів тому +1

      @@haydenpatstone2849 I haven't read information on whether this changes reliability. I believe it recirculates unspent fuel to reduce emissions. The only change I've noticed is a decrease in popping on deceleration. No change in power (not dyno tested). Have a great day.

    I’ve never removed the smog crap because I routinely get 50-52 mpg. It’s just my back road foo foo bike. I just assumed I’d have to re-jet the carb and didn’t want to fight that sucker getting off and then back in. My WR450 was a real pain.

    • @darrenmilliken1677

      You don't have to rejet just by doing the smog removal. It runs just fine.
      I just decided to reject mine yesterday because I removed the snorkel from the airbox , went up to a 158 Main 55 pilot one shim under the needle, runs fantastic

    My 2016 doesnt have an evap canister or valve, but it does have the pair valve. I guess less to remove 🤷‍♂️

    Good and detailed infovid for this. Personally, I would just leave the system in place. More or less just cause California park rangers can be rather speculative about "proper functioning of the machine." It being a dual sport, technically all the emissions are required to be on it. But to each their own, risks included. I mod my stuff in ways they will never notice.
    The smog system here doesn't inject anything behind the carb. That would run it too lean and that's the job for the stock carb to do, and it does it well on this particular bike. It's still rather responsive without having to mod it. What the smog system does is inject air just after the exhaust valves to cause a pseudo afterburn effect in the exhaust without a catalytic converter. The popping you hear is it doing it's job as intended by burning the fuel that did not burn in the cylinder, and when you decelerate the piston is actually "out running" the burning fuel as it is exhausted. Now, I'm not a tree hugger, however looking back at history, we've learned that leaded fuel causes a whole mess of medical ailments as well as smog and lung disease. If you find videos of the 70's and 80's of Los Angeles and the surrounding areas (or if you're old enough to remember), the air was rather polluted with these two compounding problems. It wasn't much of an issue 100 years ago, mostly because there weren't a lot of vehicles. Now that there are literally billions of them, it's a problem.
    Just something to think about. Motorcycles don't pollute the air like a car would, but small car engines can run rather close in efficiency. Motorcycles usually run in a higher state of tune and therefore a richer mixture to remove heat is required, which changes exhaust emissions. The flipside to this would be in India, where there are more motorcycles than large vehicles.

    What are the benefits of removing it?

    • @XRLand
      @XRLand  4 місяці тому +1

      @TheRodriguez1356 no noticeable difference in performance. It removes the small popping on decel that my stock bike exhibited. it cleans up the left side of the engine, which makes it easier to remove carb and adjust the throttle cable. Saves a little weight, but I mostly did it for the aforementioned functional and aesthetic reason.

    Will this do anything to your warranty?

    • @XRLand
      @XRLand  9 місяців тому

      Unfortunately, I dont have an answer. I will look through the paperwork to see if there are written rules regarding the warranty. I would reinstall these parts if I needed to take the bike in for anything warranty related. To be cautious, I waited 500 miles before removing these parts to ensure no immediate problems were heard or detected. Thanks for asking, and if I find a concrete answer, I will add another reply. Take it easy.

      Removing factory installed parts that were designed to comply with emissions regulations would certainly create warranty issues, as it's an unauthorised modification. There is no need to look into anything.

    What's the advantage ?
    Was this a waste of time ?
    Could you sell this ?
    What's it worth $ ?
    What's the big deal about taking it off ?
    How much weight do you lose by eliminating it ?
    Will it pass the smog test without it ?
    Superficially looks like a wast of time. Unless you're bored and have nothing else to do.
    In my opinion of course.

    • @XRLand
      @XRLand  10 місяців тому +5

      What's the advantage ? It's mainly aesthetics for me. It is slightly easier to access throttle cable and make adjustments which is useful.
      Was this a waste of time? It was a relatively simple, inexpensive, and fun project. The left side looks better IMO so the time spent seems worth it.
      Could you sell this ? I could never sell my baby.
      What's it worth $ ? Not sure. I'll be keeping the parts as backup.
      What's the big deal about taking it off? I don't know how much it changes air fuel ratio, but my bike pops less on decel which is pleasing. Unsure if thats an indication of better mixture, or just because there is less recirculation of unspent gasses.
      How much weight do you lose by eliminating it? I'll have to measure and report back.
      Will it pass the smog test without it ? This modification is for offroad use only and would not pass inspection.
      Thanks for asking questions. Take it easy.

      Wonder that when it breaks and you have to pay the dealer to fix it.

    • @XRLand
      @XRLand  9 місяців тому +3

      That would be unfortunate. I am selective with the mods I choose, and heavily considered multiple outcomes from this alteration. I've read several threads discussing smog block off, and from what I glean, the removal of this equipment is not detrimental to engine health. Only time will tell of course, but right now I'm keeping a close eye on engine temps, engine sounds, plug color, and throttle response throughout the range. Thanks for watching and enjoy the ride.

    • @chazman4461
      @chazman4461 7 місяців тому +3

      @@shanepowers7566 Last I seen there is not much of a warranty on these bikes to begin with. So, if it breaks. You are paying to fix it. Not sure what would break since the smog equipment is bolt on and not an integral part of the motor. Basically, the smog equipment does not make the motor.
      Side note, I had neighbors call the cops on my Husky because of the popping while coming down the hill everytime I rode the bike by coasting and using the engine braking. They thought it was not street legal. Now that the crap is removed, no popping, no dirty looks, still quiet, and no dumb issue or excessive heat.

    Not complaining a bit. But a word ot caution. Removing smog equipment and then operating on the road is a federal crime. Just ask many of the rolling coal diesel channels that paid millions in fines. And their own UA-cam videos used as evidence against them. Again not complaining but your documenting a substantial fine against yourself.

    • @Tireguy049
      @Tireguy049 4 місяці тому

      As long as you do the work yourself it’s not a crime. The big time diesel UA-camrs have legitimate businesses that they are working out of doing the work. That is where it becomes a crime. Legally a place of businesses can’t delete any of the DEF system on diesels but as for the standard joe blow on the street they can’t do a thing about it.

    • @tireballastserviceofflorid7771
      @tireballastserviceofflorid7771 4 місяці тому

      @Tireguy049 You are absolutely wrong. If you di it yourself or not it's illegal to remove smog equipment. Has been for decades. And yes people get prosecuted every year all over the US. Advertising your crimes publicly is just asking for trouble.
