  • THANKS for SUBSCRIBING!! This is an after-hours jam session with Bob Dylan, Etta James and her veteran, legend laden band. In the early hours of the 10th, Bob Dylan joined Etta James and Shuggie Otis on stage at the Providence Marriott Hotel. Shuggie, son of band leader Johnny Otis, played with every giant name in rock throughout his career. At 15 he had already recorded with Al Kooper and appeared on Frank Zappa's Peaches en Regalia on Hot Rats. He would go on to turn DOWN invites to join bands like The Rolling Stones, David Bowie, Blood Sweat and Tears among others. Crazy. Paul Humphrey on drums has just as vast a resume, also a collaborator of Zappa and appearing on Marvin Gaye's Let's Get It On. On keys, Jack McDuff, also a bandleader with a deep 40 year record catalogue of his own. A more capable band of hired guns would be hard to find and #ettajames managed to get a couple albums out with them 1986-87. Have more to the story how #bobdylan wanders into this troupe in those early hours? I'd love to hear it, please add to the comments! and subscribe for more!

A wonderful jam session. From Bob's "I don't sing in B flat" to the way they go over the top on Earth Angel.

This is from a bootleg album and not Etta James here singing. The way this lady sings may sound like Etta but is not her.
Also in Etta's biography (Rage to Survive) Etta said she met Bob in '91 when recording her album 'the Right Time'.
(Bob was introduced to her by Jerry Wexler, who produced her album.)
Anyway, this is a good singer too!

Funny too, considering how one of the very best tracks on Tell Tale Signs is "Can't Wait" where, at the very start, *he* suggests they try it in B-flat!
