@@danlyday7248 It's honestly insane, it's not a horror game, yet you could ask anyone who has played and was scared of it, all of them will tell you the same thing. It's terrifying.
@@raionshishi8290 because its genius use of psychological horror, you are safe 99% of the time, even big bad leviathans are EASY to avoid, BUT they do make theyr presence known BEFORE you see them which instantly tenses you up and puts you in the "oh crap oh crap oh crap" state while there is nothing actually threatening you
I was one of the playtesters on the game. Loved helping the devs find all the bugs from the very beginning days or the game to the ending (though there were still a ton of them left to do on official release several years back). Like you and others, I definitely wouldn't find it enjoyable to be floating in the ocean where you can not see the floor below you. As long as it is visible, that would be fine. As for the game, it doesn't bother me. I know the map back to front, up and down. Now, if it were played in VR, then that fear factor might be stronger, but not when just viewing it on the screen. If you thought the "Shallows" was "horrifying", you are in for some major issues in later areas. LOL
I have Thalassophobia and for me the most scariest thing is when you look around you and its just endless empty water. It feels like something is gonna pop out from the void. Basically my three biggest fears are: Fear of the Darkness Fear of the Unknown and the Fear of the Ocean especially deep sea.
Who knows if dinosaurs in the ocean exist. I mean, and asteroid hit the land, not the water, right? Not everything was destroyed. They could've been really deep down too, so they didnt get hurt.
No it hit water. What do you think made the gulf of mexico? That's literally the crater it left, it was that fcking huge. Look at a map, the whole area between florida and mexico is the bruh moment that erased the dinosaurs
KingHalbatorix that’s not accurate it didn’t create the Gulf of Mexico it was already there. The Chicxulub crater isn’t that big it’s only around maybe a tenth of the size of gulf. So no it wasn’t THAT HUGE because if it was than there simply would be no way for live (other than perhaps extremophiles and those extremely deep in the sea and on the other side of the planet to survive. Because an impact that large would have to be a direct hit since otherwise it’d be more oval. This would mean that there and around it (perhaps even in north’s and South America) the ground would become molten extremely quickly wiping away any signs of geological change. Just a sudden mass of solidified lava. But we don’t see that so no the gulf wasn’t made by that asteroid. Otherwise it would t be the second most deadliest extinction. It’d be first simple as that. It’s been shown the craters only 180 km (110 miles) which is still massive suggesting an impact object at least several miles wide. But the gulf is a massive 1,500 km (932.06 mi) at its widest. So no it didn’t create the gulf. Also the object struck at the tip of the Yucatán peninsula several miles of the coast. So it couldn’t have formed the gulf in that case to begin with.
This is actually great, was 100% me when I started playing. Had a huge fear of the ocean most of my life, this game really helped me start getting over that fear.
oh god I feel you, when you were just standing on top of the capsule, I was so scared that something is gonna jump and try to get you out of the sea qwq
I don’t have a fear of the ocean, and when playing, I had just about the same reaction. But with a lot more screaming at the crash fish (the ones that explode), anything that can kill me in general, and a lot more frantic doing stuff. I love Subnautica, but I am terrified of playing it, for fear of the deep dark zones
Me too. I'm not scared of the ocean, just the deep, dark depths where I can't see whats lurking below me... And in pools if I imagine its the ocean I have a panic attack inside and swim to the nearest side lol. Don't think I got any phobias though...???
10:10 "The very thing we were trying to avoid was the thing we needed the whole time" kinda sums up the entire learning curve of Subnautica. The game rewards going outside your comfort zone.
Subnautica is basically a game representation of a mixture of my fears: 1. Being alone and stranded in an unknown place. 2. People that you love were probably on that ship. 3. My third fear is the main aspect of this game... Exploration of the freaking sea and whats more scary is that my biggest fear about the ocean are the creatures that could come up behind you or from the darkness below! My imagination really gets to me sometimes. I can't bring myself to play this game but I can watch it, only with a stuffy and blankie owo
I had a big nope moment when the sea bottom suddenly dropped like 200m -> immediate return to the first location. The hardest thing was to even get to greasy plateaus in a daytime. I'm still not getting out of my seamoth in grand reef and further for no longer than 2sec, every dive into the grand reef is a pain
Mad props to you for playing this game. I could never do it. I’ve got the phobia so bad, I can get anxiety spikes just being in a pool, jacuzzi, or bathtub. The sensation of being inside water alone makes me think about deep waters and what’s in it.
I'm so glad I found someone with the exact same reaction to this game as me lmao I got the game in the hope of helping my fear of the open ocean and everything that entails. I'm not ashamed to say I spent a solid hour trying to pep myself up into jumping into the water the first time. I loved staying close to the shallows but the open water really set me off and everytime I peeked for air the ship threw me off bad. I eventually got through it with a friend watching me play but i honestly still feel like I'm not going to get over the anxiety i get from the ocean. Stellar game still : )
Same!! I've been playing the game for a couple months now and it's taken me all that time to even get close to the more open water areas of the map. I hate looking at the ship from the water, it's terrifying! Lemme tell you, the bone shark was not a fun experience lmao. It's become one of my favorite games but it's still scary as ever to play
I have Thalassophobia too. I hate not being able to see anything but being able to hear ominous ocean sounds. I also hate when everything is dark but there is a bright LED object staring at you. Like a pair of eyeballs. I hate went it gets darker almost as if a large creature was layed out on the ocean.
I have this fear but somehow I managed to go scuba diving in the ocean. Was pretty fun though. I always freaking speed across water in games because I think there is something that is gonna attack me
Rewatching this again as this is my favourite series ever!! I’m still too scared to play this game for very long, but I always gain a little courage watching this series, and every time I play I get a little bit further (it has been years of progress 😂)
I remember when I beat Subnautica I stayed in the shallows for 3 real life days and thought I was making progress and was terrified of every noise. Once I got used to things and just wanted to beat it, nothing was scary and I’d just get annoyed if I heard a leviathan like “bro I’m just looking for a degasi, can we do this another time?” 🤣
I love how the gameplay starts off with some John wick music while u put out a fire , what if they made a game based off that , John wick the firefighter

@@raionshishi8290 because its genius use of psychological horror, you are safe 99% of the time, even big bad leviathans are EASY to avoid, BUT they do make theyr presence known BEFORE you see them which instantly tenses you up and puts you in the "oh crap oh crap oh crap" state while there is nothing actually threatening you
It’s the Sounds for me, random growling and noises are scary af.
"Entering ecological deadzone"
"How do I shoot?"
Erm... Well, this... Um... This game doesn't... Well...
Stasis rifle is the best your gonna get in this game
LOL
1:18 “it’s just a space crash” ah yes, just another day in the life of this ocean-fearing, intergalactic veteran
I have Thalassophobia and for me the most scariest thing is when you look around you and its just endless empty water.
It feels like something is gonna pop out from the void.
Basically my three biggest fears are:
Fear of the Darkness
Fear of the Unknown
and the Fear of the Ocean especially deep sea.
Yeah. I don't know if this will help us with our phobia or make it worse
I also have Thalassophobia and after nearly 35 hours into the game I am finally becoming brave enough to take my Cyclops into depths of over 200ft.
@@milkdrinker117 make it worse. Cough reaper leviathan
But there were no aquatic dinosaurs?
Well technically anything that lives in the water isn’t a dinosaur.
@clover :p
I cant even argue honestly. We have only discovered 5% of our ocean, who knows whats down there?
You should play Bioshock if you are scared of the ocean
nah but you are "safe" in rapture your body is in the buildings and not in the open.
I have a huge fear of the water but bioshock didn’t really scare me
I have extremely thalassophobia, but I Don fear of bioshock at all
SOMA is underrated. not only is it a horror game but it will get people who have both thalassophobia and submechanophibia
Soma would be more fitting, because there are parts in the game where you go outside
"eat something"
"Ok mom jeez"
Lmao
This is actually great, was 100% me when I started playing. Had a huge fear of the ocean most of my life, this game really helped me start getting over that fear.
That first shot of getting out of the pod and seeing that you’re alone surrounded by all that water made me anxious as hell
oh god I feel you, when you were just standing on top of the capsule, I was so scared that something is gonna jump and try to get you out of the sea qwq
I love how you can tell he was really into his tasks to distract himself from the fact he was in the ocean
Then NEVER go to the Crater Edge
@@evasmojang yeah same if I'm surrounded in darkness underwater I would be so scared because anything could come to me like a whale
@@RichTheFlop yep especially the ghost leviathan
10:10 "The very thing we were trying to avoid was the thing we needed the whole time" kinda sums up the entire learning curve of Subnautica. The game rewards going outside your comfort zone.
Subnautica is basically a game representation of a mixture of my fears:
Terror, that’s the fear of something bad about to happen
This is terrifying me just watching it.
Grand reef gives me every red flag in the universe. Not even the presence of my dad can help my crippling thalassophobia when I enter the grand reef
The worst place for me is the lost river. It makes me extremely paranoid, especially at that sea base. The warpers s p o o k me
@William Anderson blood kelp is a big nope
@@croquettes1937 funnily enough its one of the SAFEST biomes ... there literally isnt anything dangerous in there xD
Ya mean kelp zone? Cause blood kelp isn’t nice especially if ur infected cause warpers
Man I couldn’t even watch Nemo without feeling of anxiousness
In Finding Nemo the part where he goes to the wide sea😖
Oh God have mercy on him, just wait until you NEED to go 600+ meters down into darkness surrounded by monsters
Man this guy has come a long way… big respect 🫡

tbf i’m studying be a marine biologist and this game does make me anxious in deeper more merky water
“I’ve seen snow piercer I know what’s in these” 🤣🤣🤣😭
Mad props to you for playing this game. I could never do it. I’ve got the phobia so bad, I can get anxiety spikes just being in a pool, jacuzzi, or bathtub. The sensation of being inside water alone makes me think about deep waters and what’s in it.
I'm so glad I found someone with the exact same reaction to this game as me lmao
I got the game in the hope of helping my fear of the open ocean and everything that entails.
Same with me , i felt that so hard.
I like the bravery this man had most people shit themselves atleast once even without a big fear of anything like the ocean or something similar
This guys gonna be traumatized when he sees a reaper Leviathan
When I played this I went to the edge of the world without looking down, and when I looked down I had a small heart attack and quit the game
I beat subnautica yesterday and I feel like at around 500 meters down he would have a heart attack
Spoilers:
How about the lava castle area or if he accidentally goes into the blood kelp trench
Dan Lyday thanks for the spoilers warning,
@@danlyday7248 yeah, the latter you mentioned is terrifying. I don't have a fear of the ocean, but that biome freaks me out.
I remember when I beat Subnautica I stayed in the shallows for 3 real life days and thought I was making progress and was terrified of every noise. Once I got used to things and just wanted to beat it, nothing was scary and I’d just get annoyed if I heard a leviathan like “bro I’m just looking for a degasi, can we do this another time?” 🤣
Its so amazing how you face your fears directly like this, i would never be able to face my fears like this. Good job!
Game: eat something!
OK MOM
that had me laughing pretty hard
For real tho. This game had me forgetting I had a real life
Play GTA 5 and go for a deep sea dive then we'll see how scared of the ocean you are
