    This belief in American exceptionalism is dangerous and stupid. The US falls below most other industrialized countries in almost every measure of social good. It's only exceptional in how the richest country in the world manages to have so many poor people living in the same country as the obscenely rich.

      +ShnNar1000x Exactly. Obama's statement that he believes in American Exceptionalism was what lost him my support. The pledge of allegiance, the USA chant.. these things are disgusting nationalist aspects that I wish we could shed.

    2:04 "wage equality"
    I agree. let's have doctors make what you entertainers make. When Taylor Swift is worth 200 times more than my family doctor, we really have a serious problem.
    That's the "wage equality" I would support!

    • @harlequinhoatzin3606
      @harlequinhoatzin3606 9 років тому +8

      +thefutureprez2016 While I'm not going to say its fair, the reason entertainers are worth so much is for the same reason why most resources become valuable, demand and scarcity.
      Hundreds of millions of people want to see and buy music made by Taylor Swift and there is only one Taylor Swift.
      A couple thousand people may see your doctor in his/her life time. As well as that there are thousands of other doctors in the world they could see.

    Wait he actually said "I believe in American exceptionalism with every fibre of my being."
    Does that mean soething else in the US? As outside the US "American exceptionalism" is the idea that America (rather unfairly) gets an exception when it comes to international law.

    • @From305toSH
      @From305toSH 9 років тому

      In this context, "American exceptionalism" means that the US is exceptional because it is unique in it's place in history and in the world. It can mean many things to many people, but in the end it's usually a jingoistic term that places the United States in higher esteem than any other nation state in the world (and in history). A common example would be the narrative that "nowhere in the world except in the USA could an immigrant come with nothing and make something of himself." "Only in America" is another example of this idea.

    • @andreahaynlee1011
      @andreahaynlee1011 9 років тому

      Wouldn't that be "exceptionism"?

    • @theoutspokenscotsman884
      @theoutspokenscotsman884 9 років тому

      Well Ammerican exceptionism or exemptionism are more common terms however outside the US it is used interchangeably with American exceptionalism.
      It the same way that yank is a derogatory term for any European American, despite having a completely different meaning within the US.

    • @andreahaynlee1011
      @andreahaynlee1011 9 років тому

      The Outspoken Scotsman
      I just meant that exception and exceptional aren't synonyms, so it seems weird that exceptionalism and exceptionism would be.

    • @theoutspokenscotsman884
      @theoutspokenscotsman884 9 років тому

      If something is exceptional it is/has an exception.
      Exception and exceptional may not be synonyms but "is an exception" and exceptional are.

    In answer to the "Exceptionalism" part and what it means the way I interpret it is another word for bully. Monroe Doctrine that tells other countries what they can't do even way south of this part of the world, Manifest Destiny which is a self appointed right to steal by force lands without guilt, self appointed world police without being asked to, interference in other countries internal politics, overthrow of democratic countries and presidents, overthrow of dictators that actually held the region in check and afterwards ignited civil wars and so on an on. This notion that America has a monopoly on freedom and the freedom raves that follow are a brain washing tactic that works well on the uneducated and not very well traveled Americans of which it seems there is a large supply of. The military industrial complex is deeply behind much of it.

      ***** Because it alienates viewers who don't want to hear Al Sharpton do comedy in a Daily Show format. Generally non-racist people don't want to go to Comedy Central, and see some show that points out how (sometimes inadvertently) racist white people are, it's just not funny, it's maybe similar to how minorities don't want to watch Fox news that points out just how minorities are screwing up the country.

      ***** You have no idea what i just said do you? A- I'm not white. So I don't have "white" privilege. You're the bigoted one if you automatically pull out the racism card and assume I got white privilege because I disagree with you. B- I am far FAR more educated than you about topics of race. I've actually read Malcolm X, MLK, and Michael Eric Dyson. Can you say the same? C- Fox News is completely biased, they view issues in America through a Right Wing conservative lens, but Comedy Central is biased too, it's just a liberal lens. I'm saying putting on lenses distorts the truth, Al Sharpton distorts police shootings into racially motivated shootings, and this Larry Wilmore just distorted a Neal Patrick Harris joke into him being a racist. And smart people like me, who view this show seeking some good insight, sees right through that kind of BS, and it makes me not want to watch the show. D- I am a minority, and I don't think we're screwing up the country.
      The 1% you're talking about, includes Obama, (he is a (half) minority), Oprah, Denzel Washington, Floyd Mayweather, Michael Jordan, Magic Johnson, Bill Cosby, Jay-Z, 50 Cent, P-Diddy. They're all CEOs, so if you wanna talk about how the 1%, is ruining the country, don't forget them. You think rich African Americans don't have ties to bankers, that they don't invest money wisely or have good business sense? You're grossly misinformed if you do.
      "The white supremacy power structure" isn't what keeps America corrupt. Greed is what makes America corrupt, but monetary gain is also tied to the driving force behind a LOT of positive things like - innovation, jobs, charity, or finding the cure towards some disease. American innovation is second to none - light bulb, Ford, Facebook, and Twitter are just some of the examples of US inventions that changed the world, and you think Edison, Ford, Zuckerberg, and Jack Dorsey are evil people trying to ruin the world? People with money create jobs, it's that simple - poor people don't create jobs, and joblessness leads to a variety of problems (like for example - increase in crime rate). The 1%ers create more jobs that you and I EVER will. The middle class creates a ton of jobs too, but to insinuate that the 1%ers are ruining the country, you better have some backing behind your statements. America also donates the MOST to other nations when compared to any other country in the world, and you need money in order to do that.
      Please stop ruminating over how the 1%ers have ruined America, and/or your life, and take that time to build something, invent something, help someone, educate someone, or chart a course to a positive direction for the future. You got a problem with the 1%? Don't just complain, force a change, but you better know a) how they're wrecking America b) economics and how free market works, c) what you're gonna do that's different and d) how that will create positive change.
      Insinuating Neil Patrick Harris is a racist, does NONE of the things above, it's a cheap shot, and it makes the writers of the show look weak. This show obviously wants to talk about current issues in an educated manner, taking cheap shots just loses the very viewer it wants to gain. That's all I was trying to say.

      Steadystrike clearly, you've never seriously been a victim of or suffered the outcome of racism..because if you had ever experienced it, truly, you would never have posted something so absurd. i mean, why do you watch this kind of video and why does it bother you??..and why is it that people who have never truly suffered from it are the first ones to want to bury it in the sand - to try negating that others and their people have suffered it greatly , for hundreds and in some cases, thousands of years?? you have no clue.
