This was a great day of racing! I came from Calgary, Alberta, Canada to watch. SEGA is truly a family. Everyone there treated me with nothing but kindness. Can't wait to get back!
i love being a member of this group. i really appreciate how much time and effort everyone has put forth into their gassers. im a huge history nerd and love seeing stuff like this in person.
While watching these races, I can smell the air. I love going to SEGA events. You need to treat yourself and watch a SEGA event at Shady Side Dragway in Shelby, NC. I was fortunate enough to watch a handful of these races there and it was the best drag racing I've ever been to. A lot of these cars I recognize and it's too cool to watch them online. Took some of my favorite photos with these cars. Definitely worth checking out!
I love gassers. Back in the sixties I had a subscription to Hot Rod magazine. It was loaded with gassers. I always loved the stance with the straight front axle. I thought the early funny cars we’re cool too.when I think off a drag car the gasser is the first thing I think of. To me there’s nothing cooler than a 55’ Chevy gasser. Great video
SEGA is making drag racing great again. Heads up, three pedals, balls on full display drag racing, that's how it started, and that still needs to be the core of it.
Yes sir, the Carolinas are the epicenter of gasser drag racing...it's been fun to watch this thing grow into new areas. I'm thankful we have a local race here in East Tennessee.
I sure do enjoy your videos!! For a young man, you are so informative!! I'm from NEArkansas and old style racing was really big in the 60s and 70, and still racing old school style in Paragould,At at George Rays Drag Way!! I am 69 yrs old and loving this!!
Loved the video. Wished Thunder Valley (noble oklahoma) would put a show on like that. The best show that happens once a year is drag week. I don't know its going on until I see street cars pulling trailers w/ their equipment. Keep em coming ( your videos)👍
Tommy, I love you brother and all of your great videos! 💯 As much as I love the racing....nothing beats your back stories and the way you tell them 😎🎉😎 Living in the San Francisco Bay Area , I would give anything to see a Southeast Gassers Race. Thank you for the kind words Tony! Maybe someday you'll find yourself on this side of the country for a gasser race. They are really something to see! I'd love to see the March Meet sometime. Definitely a bucket list item.
Love a good classic gasser....😍😎 Just had your LOST DRAGSTRIPS, GHOSTS OF QUARTER-MILES PAST and Street SLEEPERS, The art of the deceptively fast car books delivered.... Looking forward to see more videos and books (gassers?) from you! I hope that you and your family are all doing well!

Awesome video. I talked to you at Knoxville drag Way Saturday night. In the pits. Wearing long sleeve monkey gas shirt & zoom cap with gold fish hook on Left side
It was the advent of the B&M Hydromatic transmission back in 1963 that brought about the big changes in the Gas coupes and sedan class' because now a stock bodied car could work with an all out racing engine. I was there... I know. It was a very big deal when Junior Thompson with his '46 Studebaker coupe pulled off the first wheelstand in a door car. The Street Roadster and the Modified Sportscar classes were basically the same other than body type. In the early days, the gassers were required to start their engines with starter motors and return to the pits under their own power. That all changed. The engine had to be mounted not more than 25% of the wheelbase measured from the front end spindles to the centerline of the rear wheels at the first spark plug. It was wonderful when the NHRA instituted the Modified Production class for the guys with street rods that couldn't compete with the gassers anymore.
When I seen that 58 chevy I about lost my breath I've been looking for one for years to build one just like my dad had his was white with red seats was and impala with 348 tri power with an automatic he had it before he went to Vietnam and while he was away one of my uncles was doing a tune up on it for him for when he come home and someone crunk it up and was revving it up and their foot slipped off of the brake and it crashed through the shop wall and when dad came home and saw it he was heartbroken and sold it and I always wanted to find another one to fix up for him but he passed before I could and I just have a love for that body style
Thank you I will not give up on this dream and I will complete it in the memory of my dad he passed away January 25 2019 but that man fought to his last breath he was one of a kind and had some health issues the last couple of years he had done walked to the gates of hell and knocked on the door and walked back he was the toughest human I have ever known and I will find a 58 and fix it just like his I've got alot of pictures to go by and if the dmv allows it I'm going to have pops 58 on the tags and just remember the good times I had with him
I'm glad the driver of Taz is all right. But I got to tell you, I much rather see these cars take to the track and get aired out like they were made to be, then sit in somebody's yard rot in hell away. You know race cars crash it's what happens. But I got to give the guy mad respect, cuz he didn't lighten up he flogged that car, and that's what the hell they were made to do. If I had the money I'd rebuild it for him. I'd like to thank him for not babying that shit. The 40 41 Willys is one of my favorite cars of all time, it sucks that somebody dumped oil on the track and got them loose at the big end, but let's face it that's drag racing. You think I want to see a 1960s Gasser go out there and pussyfoot it? Hell no. The man gave it the beans all day. Mad respect.

First thing I have always loved gases . I never will forget the Ohio gang . Many good names . Then the ET rule I understand . But back in the 60s when I went racing I want to know how fast they were . Street outlaw's does that silly stuff . That's because the cars on fast as they say they are . It's treated laws also allows traction control . Which no one allows .. I watched this clown Mike Finnigan with his gasser . You could build a pro stock car for what he put in that car . In all aluminum hemming motor . He shifts the car like a 90-year-old man . The gasses that I remember they could shift so fast you had to look in the car to be sure was a four-speed . The jolly dolly was an immaculate 39 Chevy . Bob Bernardin on the car he was a machinist by trade . So the call was absolutely perfect . It would go straight every time and he was shift like Ronnie socks . At my local track we had a car called the bluebird and it was pretty nice to but not his detailed . Then the local dragstrip owner had a 55 Chevy C gasser . We thought it was fast . Until the Ohio gang came and cleaned his clock . Keep up the good work . By the way if you ever stop to think about maybe starting a museum .
I wish the Southeast dragsters would come out by me. My next car that I would love to build would be a gasser. I stopped racing King street because they stopped doing heads up racing which is one of the main reasons I did that class.
