I rode on the footplate of 4498 in 1985 when it was based at Carnforth when S.N.G. worked a train to Hellifeild where 850 Lord Neilson was waiting. Also helped when older sister came to Australia in 88. My experience with these pieces of art is that they rode very well, in England or Australia.
Excellent stuff...its great having family, for my 60th they got me a footplate ride on the Llangollen Railway..And in 1995 they got me driving on the ELR,what loco?..Sir Nigel...that regulator is hard work..i may upload the vid of it in the future..thanks Steve
Many thanks for sharing your film . I also had a footplate trip on NYMR in May 2014 hoping for 60007 but getting a black 5. It was my first footplate experience on a standard gauge having previously been on the Welshpool & Llanfair. The climb to Goathland from Grosmont was truly awesome, being only, a class 5 the regulator was in the roof and the fireman was shovelling constantly . If anyone wants the same experience contact Norht York Moors Railway and ask for a date . Oh! and by the way it will cost £300:00 , in my opinion worth every penny.
@edj66 I absolutley love it, I'm 24 so maybe it's because i never saw steam in service. Every three 5am firelighting turns you get to go out with the crew on the footplate.
Tagojen, that is the reversing gear. It may appear strange to someone more used to a lever-type reverser, but many British locos use a wheel instead. So what you are seeing is him 'notching up' as speed increases...
ah that may be but also a considerate donation goes along way, im not usually fireman it was 1 off on those engines like i said a considerate donation goes along way. normally im assistant junior ticket inspector. or some other job.
how ever, lolol i was passed out as a fireman when i was 16 on the MHR, after bein a cleaner for 11 months. So you 16 is the minimal age you can be a fireman too.
Does anyone happen to know what the driver seems to either be, turning or pushing back and forth? The black wheel like object right in front of the "sand" marking in the cab near 1:50
@WaerzMedia09 I understand that. What I was doing was expressing surprise that in this day and age there might be a train of coaches without air brakes.
Thats every railway fans dream to ride a beast.

Nice. I like the clip at 7:03 that shows the Token exchange.

Tbh i prefer this 60007, goes fantastically, steam's like its going out of fashion, and has'nt been wrecked like 19 has!
the mid hants railway, also known as the watercress line

what was that lever the driver was moving back and fourth at 2:24
why ever not! i passed all the medicals. and had permission from my school & council.
@peter8121 Do you mean to say there _isn't_ air barked stock on mainline working? How do they stop?
Does anyone happen to know what the driver seems to either be, turning or pushing back and forth? The black wheel like object right in front of the "sand" marking in the cab near 1:50
I Know 16 is minimum for fireman, i just said that a cosiderable donation got me a fireman experience as i had no other jobs to do that day.
why does he open and close the sanders why not always open?
whats wrecked about 60019?
@heckawesomefunnydude in the UK we drive from the left side of the loco very few have right hand drive
@WaerzMedia09 I understand that. What I was doing was expressing surprise that in this day and age there might be a train of coaches without air brakes.
The fact you made a 2 hours 34 minutes trip into 10 minutes must have taken a lot of editing any way nice video.
I been on that
hmm thats interesting that the engineer is on the left side its usually the right side
NotChristianT on American engines yes. Most British engines are left hand drive.
