  • Praised by the The Washington Post for singing that is "outright gorgeous, poignant and silvery," American soprano Sondra Radvanovsky is regarded as one of the premier Verdi sopranos of her generation. Her signature role is Leonora in Il trovatore, and other roles include Aida, Elvira in Ernani and Elisabeth de Valois in Don Carlo. During the Metropolitan Opera's 2015-2016 season, Radvanovsky takes on the special feat of performing all three queen roles in Donizetti's Anna Bolena, Maria Stuarda and Roberto Devereux.

I believe I heard a comment that she was the first person to do all three queens. If she is talking about the Met, that is certainly true. However, Sills did all three at NY City Opera in 1970.

What a rude thing to ask a singer why there are empty seats in the theater...

He didn't actually ask that question. Listening is quite important during interviews.

What a ridiculous thing to say lol given she is most known for Aida and so many other verdi operas

@@hhardin8500 Her voice was mostly suited for the lyrical role of Strauss and some Verdi. I believe her voice wasn't fit for Verdi at all; matter of fact, it was better suited for Mozart. And just because she was "known" for something doesn't mean she was right in that repertoire because frankly she wasn't.

@deadwalke Well luckily the opera world thinks otherwise given her long career singing verdi roles❤️❤️❤️❤️😂😂😂😂

@@hhardin8500 If that was an indicator then Opera has been screwed for a minute then. Aida was not a role for Price -- regardless of how many times she essayed the role and the only other two big Verdi soprano roles she essayed was Leonora in Trovatore and in Ernani both requiring levels of flexibility, agility and sostenuto, and a bombastic middle register things that Price always lacked.
Vocal longevity also means nothing when the voice wasn't as properly developed. If that was the case, Edita Gruberova, Mariella Devia, and many others would be the greatest opera stars. They aren't and that's for good reason.
