    Thwart strike (Translation) ENGLISH
    For the Thwart, conduct yourself thus. In the onset, position yourselfin the Wrath Guard on the right (concerning the previous chapter), thatis, set your left foot forward, and hold your sword on your right shoulder, as if you intended to deliver a Wrath strike. If your opponent strikes at you from the Day or High, then strike at the same time as him with the short edge across from below against his strike, hold your cross up over your head, as a parryying for your head, and at the same time as the strike step well to his left side. Thus you parry and hit simultaneously, as shown by the two figures on the left in image H.

    Hi Bjorn! Thank you for making these videos; I've found them to be very helpful :) But I'd like some help; after searching your videos, I was not able to find any lessons on the "Verkehren". What is the meaning, purpose and usage of this concept? Would appreciate some help to understand its use! Thank you!

    •  7 років тому +8

      Verkehren is (in Meyers context) the switching from one edge to the other. Doesnt matter if you switches from short- to longedge or vice versa :)

    Hello, what is the difference between zwerch and schielhauw? (oh, and thanks for the video)

    •  6 років тому +8

      Schielhau is delivered vertical or slightly diagonal like an Oberhau. Zwerchhau is executed through the Zwerchline (horizontally).

      Also schielhau is done with the "false" edge of the blade

    • @SirSmurfalot
      @SirSmurfalot 6 років тому +2

      Schielhau is a false edge oberhau that comes in nearly vertical to the upper targets, a zwerchhau is thrown more-or-less horizontally to the head, or with the blade diagonally to the body with the hands kept high.

    So..I was just browsing around and found this..now I dont know anything about swords but what I do know is martial arts. And the first thing coming trough my mind as I saw this is the biggest flaw wich comes down to the basics of martial arts wich is: A straight trajectory allways wins against a curved trajectory!!!!!!!So based on this you can assume that the first movement you showed is impossible since you are doing a huge movement against a straight line wich will result in RIP.
    Pace out!

      The strong of the sword is, well, stronger than the rest of the sword, weak and median included. So it is perfectly possible.

      Also, you're wrong. Idk what martial arts you know. But the strength of the blow and how it is administered changes things up. You wouldn't be a very good swordsman thinking like you do.

      A Zwerch with a side step is a legit starting action against everything that comes from above. Of couse the first might not hit, but you must train for a hit or it will not be a thread and requires no reaction from the opponent (this first exercise you saw). Bring a blunt sword and protective gear and I proof it in sparring if you are near Stuttgart in Germany. Actual fighting and trying out is the only way to settle such theories. Or we can eventually use foam weapons.
      But as everything in sword fighting, a Zwerch is not a silver bullet in that situation, there are none. It very much depends on what the opponent does and what you and he trained on the situation and if anybody has the nerve in that split second to react correctly or on the next blow/cut/thrust afterwards. In this case the Zornhut suggests a strong attack from above from Björn, but then the sword comes from the side while he has moved out of the center line. That's something to deal with. Longswords fly very very fast, the tip is much faster than fists can be. and can turn direction in an attack easily. Longswords weight almost nothing (~1,6kg) and have the double handed long grip as a lever. A lot of the fighting is going on on a meta level, we often say its a talk between liars. That's what makes actual free fighting in sparring or tournaments with them so interesting.

      @@googleuser2016 thank you for educating me!
      For sure it's a different kind of martial art where there are different things to consider.
