    Why either or? Get both! Need gold for earning points, platinum for travel perks and digital coupon book.

      The annual fee of both would be a bit much for me. But it would be the best way to maximize points!

    We probably will see restructuring of Amex plat sometime later this year like delta lineup and look for $750 AF and expect base MR to increase from 1 to 1.5 MR just like business plat version.

      It wouldn’t surprise me if they went that way. They’ve already changed lounge access rules, and the lounges are still packed!

    To a large degree, it'll depend upon your use case. I've had the Amex Platinum for over 20 years, and that has changed for me. I used to travel every single week, so I used the airport lounge feature at least twice a week, often more when I had day trips. I used the tsa precheck and Clear reimbursement every few years. When the travel was personal, the bag check reimbursement. Of course, I always took advantage of the points. I tend to use them on Amazon. Now I only travel by plane a few times a year, so it's not worth it to me. Now our travel is mostly by RV, which we use mostly debit to fund unless we're concerned about skimming credit card operations at gas pumps. We don't really use it for anything other than travel, so we don't get a lot of points anymore. We will probably cancel it eventually, opting for a cheaper yearly fee.

      You’re right, it’s definitely more beneficial for frequent air travelers.

    For that Saks credit I like to just do a $50 gift in the first half of the year and again in the second half. Amex reimburses them then I give them to my wife as a nice surprise lol

      Love that, great idea! Lucky wife :) I never think to shop at Saks but I definitely need to use that credit.

    The $200 hotel credit is $50 per quarter. Most people don't use some of the perks

    I wish this card had some decent spending multipliers, my VX gets 2x on everything, this one is just a very limited flights category

      Definitely. It’s more of a perks-access or membership card than a big points earning card. You do earn 5x points on hotels but you have to book them through the AMEX portal and pre-pay, which I don’t love.

      If you charge everything to your room at a resort, usually every charge receives the 5X multiplier. The Platinum Card is not a "Daily Driver". Although; there have been incredible offers through the AMEX Platinum rewards on their app. It remains the "Coupon Book"

    What do you use in replacement of the Gold card

    • @averagegirldoescoolthings
      @averagegirldoescoolthings 8 місяців тому +1

      Nothing. I use the Platinum for pretty much everything, and I have a cash-back Visa in case a vendor doesn’t take AMEX.

      @@averagegirldoescoolthings that’s interesting. I think I’m going to the savor one venture X route. I like gold and platinum combo but can’t justify the annual fees right now. I only travel maybe once a year

    • @averagegirldoescoolthings
      @averagegirldoescoolthings 8 місяців тому

      That would definitely be a lot to pay in annual fees! I’ve heard good things about the Capital One card, and I know they’re expanding their lounges as well.

      @@averagegirldoescoolthingsNice and simple. Unless you’re trying to hit the $75k a yr for extra lounge access on the Platinum, I would at least also get the no AF Blue Business Plus to get 2x MR points on a bunch of purchases you’re only getting 1x points on right now.
      Great video 👍🏽.

      Citi Premier, C1 Savor One, WF Autograph. Venture X is solid option if you can get approved for it.
