A far cry from Dad's old John Deere 40 with a single row corn planter that took all day to attach and set up.
The one thing about those early planters is they were built to last for ever.
I remember my grandfather planting with his JD model A tractor and 2 row planter was considered state of the art in the forties and fifties. He would be in shock for what they use now to plant corn
Great history. Was his planter a check row model?
Incredible to think about the fact there’s $970,000 wrapped up just in the tractor and the planter...😮
Actually it's more than that. The number's he quoted are for the base model. No real bells and whistles like auto steering and what not. I bet the tractor alone is pushing 640k and the planter is probably pushing 500k. I'm looking at the John Deere's site right now and one of the planters options adds an extra 94k. That is the most expensive option but there are several which add 10-30k as well. Maxed out the planter runs just a shade under 629k. No wonder the little Mom and Pop farms went under.
Sticker shock...

Looks like the were running two of them near the end of the video. I'd be plumb ashamed for them to see my outfit. They'd probably asked if I had a mobile scrap yard. 🙀🙀
Keith Martin ....I’m sure that your rig works just as well! If one doesn’t have tens of thousands of acres-mostly in large open tracts-to get planted there’s really no need for something that huge and expensive.
Looks like it takes some good ole Jack Links to make it operate as well ha ha ! Thanks for the video huge iron!!
👍👍👍
Jack links beef jerky plant is 35 miles north of me small world.
Thank you for the video.
Very cool 👍
This is why I love ag machinery. Always innovating to meet the needs of tomorrow.
👍
No me canso d ver estos videos.. quiero uno de esos tractores
Thank you, BTP. That's amazing just those two machines being over $800,000.
It is a big investment for a big job.
Awesome video! Glad to hear you pronouncing the tractor model number correctly 👍
Thank you for watching.
Good video Jason thanks for taking the time to make these videos so we can see what it's all about 👍🚜🚜🚜🚜🚜🚜
Thank you for watching.
Wow! Between tractor, planter, seed, fuel and some pocket change, there's easily $1M in that video!
It is a big investment.
I don't know how much bigger that the machines can get but it awesome to see them at work
John Deere’s DB120 48 Row is the largest. Not sure how they will go bigger but no doubt they will find a way.
Makes my 6 row planter look small thanks Jason for another Awesome video 🚜🚜🚜👍
I like 6 row planters. I grew up watching a 6 row AC 333 pulled by an IH 686.
Good green power. That planter looks solid and heavy. Be well & have a restful weekend w/kin 🚜👍
Thank you Mark. Hope your on the mend.
Damn that’s the way to put in a lot of crops in a day, nice video. Again thanks for all your great videos.😎
👍 Thank you for watching.
IT DOESN'T GET ANY BETTER THAN THIS! GO GREEN.
👍
Cool Video BTP
Thank you for watching Mike. Enjoyed you big corn side dressing video.
That is a nice setup. Thanks for bringing it to us!!
Thank you for watching.
That planter is dame huge
Thank you, BTP. Very cool.
Thank you for watching.
Pretty awesome. I would love to be planting corn now. Lol we still have snow and Mudd to deal with. Good old New York weather lol
I grew up in Rochester, NY. It always seemed like mid May was peak planting time in WNY.
Definitely mid-may. It is starting to dry out here. But still really cold
That's just crazy!!!! Great vid once again BTP!!!👍👍👍
Thank you for watching.
Another great video! Thank you and keep up the great work. Your videos are great quality and very informative. You’re the man!
👍 Thank you for watching.
Magnificent video sir!!!:-)
Thank you for watching.
Хороший трактор :) два года на нём работаю
That is a awesome set up there
Thank you for watching. It is one of the largest in WKY. The largest is a 54 row DB90.
Great Film !
Thank you for watching.
Beautiful work
Thank you for watching.
Damn !!! You can’t even turn that planter around in some of the Fields in South Alabama most farmers around here use 4-6-8 some time you see a 12 row that’s insane up to 400 Acres a
day
I live in central Alabama and the most I have seen is probably a 12 row my self.
I agree. I remember when farms weren't half that size. SMH!
Jeffery Livingston I live in the wire grass area
I'm not sure where you are other than west of Montgomery Al.
I live closer to the chatahuchee on the eastern side of Alabama
Jeffery Livingston south west of Dothan Alabama
Man that's close to a million dollars worth of equipment. Incredible.
Big investment but well worth it to get the crop in. This planter was in a 700 plus acre field.
Where there two of them?
@@paddypoolfc3579 that second one was some type of tillage machine
Thx perry. 👍🏻
Paddypool the second machine in the field was a John Deere 9620RX and a 55ft John Deere 2210 Field Cultivator.
You've done it again. Great video.Thx.
Thank you for watching. The 9RX and DB90 are a cool planting team.
Got one word for that setup-Machine
👍
Yes where I live you would be more likely to see a John Deere 9410R pulling a JD DB44
The Bauers farm big acres. In years past you would see the latest model out on his property for testing. He has an agreement with a local farmer for planting acres in exchange for field tile work. We would hear things that sounded alot like the song Da Turdy point buck. (search on you tube) Di ya see the 90 footer ? it was funny to hear, especially when we considered a 12 row planter ample to large
Aí é top de mais
I love this tractor.
👍
Now thats one big corn drill!
👍
Super👍👍👍👍👍
Thank you for watching.
Think a John Deere 4010 would pull that? 😉
No problem, I pull a DB120 with a 25HP Rumely at around 15MPH. lol
We use our 4020 with 9k hours and she pulls it fine with no suit case weights. So you should be good!
@@Ethan-ck6iz That's good to know!
@@jrice1091 I'll have to look into buying one of these planters then!
I have a 4010 with a johndeere 6620 combine motor in it that might pull it out of the ground
excellent machinery, i like it, cheers
Thank you for watching.
You have to wonder why the planter is still equipped with markers. Seems like anyone pulling that would have GPS.
I'll give you my answer...consider if GPS goes out or has problems, which it does. Planting beans you can get away with eyeballing or wayward planting but if something happens planting corn you can quickly have a mess come harvest. Having that guide line from the markers is reassuring and almost necessary
@@gregbaldwin5144 I like your answer. Didn't think of it is a failsafe-
Also for end rows
@@tylerallen1520 exactly
Farm’s here in WKY like to use the marker arm on the first field boundary pass. It just gives a line of sight for curves and obstacles. On this DB90 I think only the left arm has ever been used.
That is one big planter friend
It is a big planter. It was working in a 700 acre field. It sure helps reduce passes on big acreage.
@@bigtractorpower awe there's no doubt alot of fuel savings as well I'm sure
One heck of a machine
Thank you for watching.
Nice video 👍 thanks for sharing!
Thank you for watching.
Great video!
Thank you for watching.
I would love to drive that unit
You thumb up your own comment? lol
Now that's a planter.
👍
love tht tractor
Great tractor and video! It would be nice if you'd film in 4k!
I have a 4K camera. I will film with it some this year.
@@bigtractorpower Thank you for the reply
👍
oh man i love your vids i miss a lot but hay thanks
👍
Do the markersfunction on the planter for added weight on the wings? Otherwise its a waist of money for em when having gps.
They use the markers to trace the second boundary pass and then do not use them other wise.
I guess that's really tuff to do the planting on the headlands, or the planter/tractor have some auto-guidance help to do this job?
There are headland auto guidance packages. Most farm’s I film at here in WKY still like to use the marker arm on the first boundary pass to have a line of sight for the second bass as normally there are curves and obstacles to go around.
Why do they plant (we say drill in the UK) the headlands first? You might think they plant the field then work up (cultivate) the headland and plant that last
Most farm’s here do the boundaries first but not all. With GPS some farm’s I film at plant the headlands last. Especially ones using two track tractors because they berm the soil. Planting a head land goes way back so you could see where to end your pass evenly and turn around. Today with row shut off it can all be done automatically.
At ONLY $394,000.00 a piece,I'll take two of those planters B.T.P.😁👍
They will cover some ground.
@@bigtractorpower Oh yeah!.
Good vid. Just curious do you see many farmers running itec on there green star systems, the part where it turns the tractor around through the gps?
I have not come across that yet. When I do I will feature it for sure.
Wow great vid! That almost $800,00 for the planter and tractor! Impressive! Can u make a vid about a JD 9RT please? Thanks!
I like the 9RTs. I will have a 9520RT to share soon.
great video! I hit the bell.
Thank you for watching.
Imagine how much it was if you put precision planting equipment on all those row units😂
They have Precision units on it.
How big is it going to get ah? Very nice tractor and planter!
Currently John Deere offers one larger planter. A 48 row DB120.
bigtractorpower Ya I know, it’s unreal! Bigger bigger bigger! Working on farm equipment all my working years and starting in 1984 I have seen it really grow!
which is the best in your opinion the dB90 or dB 120?
It depends on what you need to cover. A DB120 is impressive but they have tough re sale on the used market because they are so big. The DB90 is hard to resell as well. The best is 24 row.
Wonder if I could borrow that to plant my garden?
Is you garden 90 ft? 😁
Who else is watching this while they plant?
One of my fiends was. He sent me a picture from the cab of his tractor.
DEF. You mean government juice
Interesting how the narrow track set up uses three mid rollers vs the two on the wide track.
Yes it is.
oh if only, that would be so nice
Surprised to see someone planting corn already in Ohio we cant even get in our feilds
Normally once March 1 arrives in Western Kentucky farm’s can begin field work and by mid March corn planting will begin.
Damn that's a big planer don't see much big planners in California The biggest planners we have in California 12 row cotton planerer 38" row spacing. Awesome job Jason I Love your videos and really love the green equipment I've been John Deere Tec 13 years in California
Thank you for watching. I visited Bakersfield, CA a few years ago and was surprised how many 3pt mounted 8 row planters there were.
Bauer no longer owns the planter factory Deere now owns it Bauer is now building pulling shelds
Yes I mentioned that the Bauer tool bar is a John Deere product in the video. Deere still uses the Bauer decal on the hitch.
Beautiful, could you do something on the flood of flyover country? Nebraska/ Iowa.....
Thanks for the video and G'day to you and yours.
It sure is terrible to see all of the flooding. The people and farm’s in that region are in my prayers. What type of video would you like to see made? I do not live near that region so I do not have a way to film the flooding or devastation to the region to talk about what is needed.
Also If you a heavy duty task is possible to increase the width of the tracks to get more traction?
There's no difference in traction whether the tires are set to a hundred feet wide or 2in apart.
But to answer your question yes the width of the track can easily be changed to accommodate different row spacings
@@Drew-in-NoDak Perhaps Im didnt make myself clear. Im not talking about the distance between rows but the Surface contact to the ground. Is necessary another set of tracks or this narrow set can be adjusted?
Okay I I think I understand now basically to answer your question no unless you buy another set of tracks then you can adjust the width of them accordingly to whatever with track you by I believe you can buy a track all the way up to 36 in wide and all the way down to 16 in wide so It would give you varying traction depending on the width of the track.
So, yes
There are different size track belts from 18 to 36 inches.
I'm in pain thinking of having to adjust all those row cleaners. I have to worry about 16 and because of poor design they are terrible to adjust
What type of row cleaner do you use?
@@bigtractorpower looks to me the exact same as in the video. Idk what brand they came as option directly from JD
Is it possible to see some videos of the smaller John Deere tractors. 5075E and bigger
You have to go the Small tractor power channel
Thanks RON I appreciate your time and videos
Ron do you have a link that you could send me to?
Sure. Watch for some in my hating videos in May. I like all tractors and will film a Ford 8n to a Big Bud 16V-747.
Pretty much a million dollar setup right there wow, and that’s just a fraction of what that farm why. I assume these are the same guys that are putting 13,000 acres in corn this year? Do they lease most of this equipment or buy?
These guys are old old money, I'm guessing they pay cash
I think they purchase due to amount of hours they put on per year
I see. That all makes sense I guess. Top of the line nice equipment. Good tax write offs too I suppose.
They also raise tobacco I believe.
Troy Julius I didn’t know that. You don’t see much tobacco in my part of Kentucky anymore. I’m not a fan of smoking or chewing but it sure is refreshing to see a tobacco patch here and there.
I understand the efficiency of GPS guidance but I would have to turn it off for a while cause I like driving too much.
👍
And we could probably tell exactly when you turned it off. I was a high school kid dishing with an Allis WD in same field with a old farmer with a Farmall M. He stopped me in mid field & put me in my place. "Ed can't drive that tractor straight, & neither can you!" Looking back, my track resembled a snake.
I farmed long before gps was in service. We only had a handful of drivers that could start out and maintain straight planter rows. It was considered an art form and became very competitive. Had a couple of newbies fill in when we got behind. One sighted in on a distant landmark which turned out being an ocean freighter sailing up the Deep Water Channel to the Port of Sacramento and another just made a rectangular field look like an Olympic slalom course. The only comment by the owner was "oh well, you can plant more seed in a curvy row".
Zack’s planter looks tiny now🤔😂
How big is Zack's planter
It's not nice to compare the size of a man's planter.
Jay Huff I dont know, I bet he have said it in several of his videos
Dan Lowery HAHAHA!!!
#Dahlmasen are you talking about Zack Johnson the MN meleenial farmer
how the hell does that thing fold up to get down the road the neighbors 24 row is like a dang transformer opening up i couldn't imagine what that 36 row would be like i would love to see a video of that
They fold just like the 24. Fifteen per side and six across the back.
Here is a video I made of a DB90 folding m.ua-cam.com/video/xGdrJ0On_Rs/v-deo.html
Stirv the newer 24 rows fold 4 across the back now. For John Deere they are the 1770NT and currently the 1775 NT.
Yes I’m aware of that, they also don’t have 15 per side on a 24. I was simply describing the manner in which they fold and then gave him the row layout.
So over 800k in 2 pieces of equipment here..this farm must have to sell alot of corn to pay for that
They raise a bunch of corn. The field this DB90 was filmed in is 700 acres.
👍👍👍
Thank you for watching.
What does The X stand for in this series of tractor
4 tracks.
@@bigtractorpower ok I was just wondering
👍👍
Hi can I buy one of your caps please? Seen one on welker farm.
Thank you for your interest. Drop me an e-mail at contact@bigtractorpower.com
400000$ ,for a planter wow
It’s a big investment. It’s helpful in covering acres. This DB90 was working in a 700 acre field when I filmed it.
Are there anybody who still utilizes planters' markers?
Yes. This 36 row still uses the marker arm on the first perimeter pass around field. You can see the marker out on the very last 30 seconds of this video.
I work for a custom planter manufacturer and I would say the marker option goes on less than 5% of the planters we produce.
When we order them in my area in Canada, none come with markers. When farmers bring them up from the States, nearly all of them come with markers. The customers who have them don't use them here, but they do add ballast to the wings in tougher field conditions
Better not make any mistakes.....or it will be a big one.
How much does a planter like that cost?
At the 3:42 second mark of this video I give the planter price. From the 2:00 minute mark to the 3:50 minute mark I gave the tractor and planter specs and prices.
Thanks for the answer. Sorry I missed it.
No worries. Thank you for watching.
Wow...that rig is about $1MM. Sound expensive, even before you fill it up with fuel.
400 gallon capacity.
If you can afford that machine you could care less what the fuel bill would be
Big investment for big jobs. It will cover allot of acres in a season. This video was filmed in a 700 acre field.
Got 20 more hp then the CaseIH Steiger 500 rowtrac
I think the 500 RowTrac and 9520RX NT are very similar. 20 hp is not a game changer. Most 4wds like op in similar classes from 370 to 620 hp.
You need to find a db120
That would be an awesome planter to film and see.
With this setup. No wonder there's no small home farms and only corporate farms and businesses running this world. How in the world can anyone afford to farm now days.
The farm in this video is family farm that goes back several generations. There are family farms of all sizes.
Some of my good friends are family owned farm and they cover 30,000 acres every year
ps can we send this to Giants
Who are Giants?
What are the seed rates because we can plant 600 to 700 acres with a 24 row 30
You can plant 600 acres in a day? The 400-500 acres is what the DB90 seeds in a work day. It will cover around 250-300 acres between refills. I think they do a population around 30,000.
Yes we can do up to 700 8n a day. But we ate planting cotton the population is lower and the seed sizr is smaller
I imagine cotton and corn seed size are different. I have filmed cotton harvest but not planting yet.
They are corn is a whole lot bigger
How do you make any money spending a million dollars on equipment when corn is at $3.57 bushel. You'd have to sell 280,000 bushels just to break even.
You forgot seed fertilizer chemicals storage trucking insurance interest taxes then more taxes repairs labor then more taxes as well... oh forgot fuel lube oil ... build to store equipment....
Camel Tanker well say if they have planted 8000 acres of corn and say that average yield for them is 200 so go 200 x 8000 would be like 1.6million bushels of corn then sell it for 3.50 average that’s like 5 or 6 million before you even start harvesting beans
Nick Allan I guess if you don’t account for land cost or rent that’s a pretty good deal 8000x13,000 per acre FYI in my area that’s a conservative number 104,000,000$ plus 40$ per acre for taxes 320,000$ .... 3.50$ corn won’t sustain farms in my area
Equipment is averaged out over its life time, and there is also residual value when you're done with it. Usually notes on equipment are around 5 years, so you're not necessarily paying the whole amount at one time. The price is then divided up on the amount of acres, so it might look like quite a bit but in the end it might only cost you $5 an acre. On top of all of that it can also be written off using the sec 199 tax form.
Not everybody that farms knows how to use a pen and paper! Money is easy to borrow......paying it back is the hard part.
I would love to drive one of those tractors I would like to run that planter it's huge Donald Trump would like it to lol I am paralyzed I know there is a outfit that does stuff that could put me behind the wheel of one again it would be great to turn dirt again
Another John Deere taking ideas from Case IH.
Case IH has been a leader in tracks. No doubt several brands have begun offering similar configurations because they have sold so well for John Deere.
