Appreciate the honest review and the fact that you outlined who may or may not appreciate this game despite the fact that it wasn’t for you. Really well done. Subscribed.
Super appreciate the comment. I can definitely appreciate that there are so many other people who will truly enjoy this game, so I wanted to ensure that the positives were also expressed. It is a really solid game that many will love!
I really do appreciate this comment. I will definitely do this again for sure. It is interesting how different player counts and type of players affects those individual plays and how it makes me feel. Again thank you 👍
As someone who has played about 400 modern games, I think you missed the most appealing part of this game: it is a perfect gateway game. Easy to learn, plays in 30 minutes, and it is fun to play rather than just try to win. I treasure my copy as a game I can play with anyone. This is also a side note, but I am a little disappointed that 2 of the 3 times you played was with only kids. I actually think 3 plays is fine for a review, but I don't think you got the same interactions when you are playing with 3 other adult friends.
Thank you for the comment, I couldn't agree more with different interactions with friends as opposed to the kids. I normally do this as I have a regular games group, plenty of casual playing friends and my partner. Unfortunately timings didn't line up this time around to get it played externally. In regards to your comment about being a good gateway game, again I definitely agree as it's solid and easy to pick up and play. My biggest issue is that I rate so many other games as better gateway alternatives. My standard go-to games when introducing people to the hobby are Cascadia, Azul, Catan, Isle of Cats, Tokaido, Takenoko, Trekking Through History and Tiny Towns. I honestly think I would pick all of these before Survive The Island. I definitely want to point out that I still enjoyed the game and still recommend it as I know that this ease of play and classic design will suit so many people. It's just not high enough up my rankings that I want to get it back to the table anytime soon. Also doesn't help my dog chewed one of the sea serpents lol
Thx for the review Correction tho is that the Kaiju is a new mechanism added to the game. This seems to have been done to sped up the game by hastening people off the island. The prior games had Whales and Dolphins (instead of Kaiju) which served two different functions for survivors that are off the island. Whales would capsize boats and Dolphins would move swimmers through the water. This added a lot of “Take That” tension/fun to gameplay.

Including your group experiences with various specific plays was both valuable and innovative. Thanks for the video.

Appreciate the clarification thank you 👍
The dolphins are now part of some of the hexes you turn over, but dolphin meeples is much more fun for sure 😁
