Imagine what the night must look like with a full moon and nothing else around. Then having a drone fight and seeing everything at night would be amazing.

have you ever heard of a double sunset? as the sunsets at ground level send the drone up and let it free fall with the sunset in view for a double sunset. use to see it while skydiving but now can see it with a quad.
Woow it's the first time I've heard about that. I guess the drone needs to go quite a high altitude for that?

Dude, imagine the epic spots you can find hunting on foot the fist 1-2 days you are on land somewhere. And then when you go back. On a schedule, you get out to the spots and shoot for a few hours, then travel back to the ship.

Awesome video! Can you explain the malfunction you had @ 1:46 in more detail? I'm still learning and have been loving watching your videos as you are super thorough with your pre-flight checks and all and seem to be very careful of how you do things. Plus you have one of the coolest flying environments i have ever seen. I think its awesome that whoever is in charge lets you do this.

One of the escs finished booting up long after the others, implying something made it pause. While I've personally never noticed that cause any problems, if you're flying over the ocean you really don't want to have any unexplained oddness in your quad.
@@sligit is right, I just wanna see everything is "normal". I hate it when some ESCs are sleepy 🤣.
There's a dock for unloading cars in northern California, maybe 40 minutes from San Francisco. It's no open sea, but seeing this ship is will convince me to fly there someday. Incredible view!

@@patrixfpv Yea, even gps return to home is useless since "home" is moving so fast. Is your failsafe set to drop or to hover in the hopes that you might re-establish a link before sailing over the horizon?

This is true and I felt all this multipathing when I was on analog video system. And it's much worse inside the engine room. DJI video system really shines here.

Would you be allowed to fly on the top of the superstructure?
I'd love to see you get some shots down near the bow or stern - do you think you can get line of sight close in when the quad is lower than the gunwale?
E.g. the "balcony" to the side of the bridge level?
(I know the curvature of the hull might be an issue even if you are standing above the gunwale)

Thanks! Yes I have flown on top of the superstructure. I already have a shots of the forward and the bow. If I do fly to "see" the bow, then I would go forward and station there. I'm sure DJI HD and crossfire would be able to manage the signal being blocked by containers but I just don't want to take the risk so I go forward.

The video is making me nervous for so many reasons. Water everywhere, a fast moving ship, unable to see the cell voltage. I'm glad I did not control the drone. But the view you get in return is awesome.

Yes and that is why I never installed GPS in any of my drones. I have already lost 2 in the sea 😅

Thanks! I usually like to be alone when I VLOG that's why I don't fly from the bridge wings. One more thing is the landing, it will be a bit tricky.

Thank you! And yes, I have, 2 quads with 2 session5. First one was my fault, the first time I used a VTX with mmcx connector and I forgot to reconnect them after a repair, I lost video feed shortly after taking off. Second one was a failsafe about 10 meters away from me.

@patrixfpv I've lost the same amount and I just live next to a river. You need to try to conformal coating your drone with a bottom-mounted battery and a good water bottle at the top. If you go down into the water you can always rearm and get back to the boat
