I think that the only way Congress will act is if there is a mass shooting at the Capitol and several congressmen and senators are killed than you will see congress do something.

When I bought my gun at a gun show in California, I first had to take a test, complete a background check form, wait 10 days to get the ok to go to a physical gun shop and get my gun. Alot of these shootings are emotionally based. If this guy had to wait days to receive his gun, maybe he would have rationalized his behavior and lives would have been saved. 😥

The “Assault weapons ban” in the 1990s had a mandatory waiting period, and after 10 full years the entire Brady Bill was analyzed and found to HAVE DONE ABSOLUTELY NOTHING! I feel that the most shocking thing is that not enough Americans are shocked enough to demand action from their politicians. It's almost as if it is such a daily occurrence that people just shrug and forget about it in a day or two. Outside the US people are just stunned that nothing happens, shooting after shooting.

To drive a car you need: a license, minimum age, insurance, vehicle registration and SMOG check. You can lose the license through breaking of laws. Why not the same standards for firearms? Rights also carry responsibilities and not just lip-service.

I lost my brother to a stranger with an assault weapon. I was telling my boss the other day my plan if someone comes in shooting. It's not normal, I shouldn't be worried about how to save my own life because I can't let my mom lose another child. I don't live in a dangerous area, I'm not afraid to walk down the street at night, but I'm afraid of getting caught up in a random mass shooting.

GOP - We think nurses and doctors should always be armed while on duty. Hospital janitors should be trained in take downs and doors should be locked when ever possible.
Actually, our ER has a sheriff deputy on duty 24/7, and when a Code Gray (out of control patient/visitor) is called, all male personnel rush to the area and calmly defuse it by sheer numbers. We also have unarmed security, and visitors must check in and have their ID scanned upon entrance. We are not a soft target. Edit: and a lockdown can be accomplished with the push of a button, and staff protects entrances and exits.
As a medical professional I should have every right to be armed within reason. You have no idea how many doctors are targeted for robbery in the parking lots of offices and hospitals. I train martial arts but I cannot reasonably be expected to protect myself from a surprise attack without a firearm. That's why I got a concealed carry license and firearm training.
There is no way you should be able to buy a gun and use it the same day.There should be a waiting period to allow for background checks.And the best solution is that all these military weapons should not be for sale at all.But that's common sense which in the United States doesn't seem to be that common.
They have this instant background check system in place nationwide. If you are flagged you have to wait while they do further checks. Or you can be denied outright. One problem is some localities don't report information the system quick enough or at all sometimes.

This isn't colonial times or the old west, regulations need to drawn up and implemented. Military personnel have to ger weapon certified annually and I think the same rules should be applied to civilians.

In the UK we have had a number of mass shooting events over the past 50 years - most were linked to the conflict in Northern Ireland. Up until the mid 1980s UK citizens could legally own the same weapons that are still legal in the US. Handguns and quasi-military shotguns and semi auto full centre fire long guns. They were banned following a mass shooting in the 1980s (Hungerford) and 1990s (Dunblane). We have had 3 mass shooting events in the UK since 2000. And 16 fatalities. That’s in 22 years. And bearing in mind we have one of the most pressured health services in the Western world I don’t think that our mental health care is any better than the US. And we have a much lower rate of active church goers than the US and a much higher tolerance to LBTQ+ and the rights of women to have abortions. So why does the US have a homicide rate 5 times higher than the UK?
Watch out for knife and acid attacks. See in the US there is a segment of the population, around thirteen %, who commit 50% of homicides. The Tulsa shooter was part of the segment. In the UK your demographics are changing, so report back in 10 years. This story will be swept under the rug in hours.

Switzerland, Norway and Finland all have similar proportions of gun ownership as the US. They have stricter laws on obtaining one and they have a different culture. Coming from Canada, things like this just seem insane and are very difficult to process.

Here in Finland we use guns mostly when hunting, after they're locked up in a gun safe. Other weapons like hand guns are only allowed to be used in a shooting range. No one here carries a guns around on his/her person, 1st it's illegal and 2nd it's not in our culture to carry guns on a person. Only the police carry guns in plain sight... Our society is a peaceful one, there's no need to be afraid of anyone, stranger or a friend. Violent crimes are a extreme minority in all the crime that happens... So if you need to protect yourself use your fists...

Every politician should be asked one question. "Which is more important, a prescious child's life or the right to own a gun?" That should be a baseline for testing someone's humanity. If they hesitate, give a roundabout answer, or deflect, they are immediately unfit for the job. There’s no way to know when someone intends to use a legally purchased object to murder people. Laws were broken and will be broken again and again. Pass another law and these people will just break another law. As for keeping guns out of the “wrong hands”, there’s often no way to predict the future based on an individual’s past. When there is, say for instance a perpetrator had a problematic psychiatric record or past juvenile history of violence or antisocial behavior, there are established legal walls that can only be breached by going to court. And nobody is going to court every time a gun buyer walks into a gun store.

That 18 year old teenager used his life savings to let the world feel his pain and suffering due to being bullied by his peers, neglected by his family, and not being helped or acknowledge. Well, its sad and hurt breaking that we had to acknowledge that teenager after he made his mark in history by taking the life of those kids and teachers, ruining many people lives in the process, and secretly promoting (sending a subliminal message) to those that feel of no point of living to continue mass shooting. There is a balance like Ying and Yang. What is the yang for suicide? Homicide. Some will die alone and nobody or just a few would care, while others think of dying after they kill as many people in the process, to be acknowledged & letting everyone feel thier pain and suffering. When you think outside the box, it's a scary truth that people ignored. Here's a fact. Everyone have the potential to kill. That being said, using strategy like barricading class rooms won't work anymore for shooters hoping to increase the number of casualties, create pain and suffering. What I mean by that? Well, we are teaching kids, teenagers, adults, everyone (civilian, military & government officials) what to do when a shooter occurs right? Well, remember, everyone has the potential to kill; therefore, while the elite leaders think it's best to keep assault rifles and semi-automatic weapons that can send bullets through walls of all kind (schools, shopping centers, cars, etc.) in stores, waiting to be brought or stolen, they failed to acknowledge that the potential shooter or shooters are also taking notes. While we are teaching how to barricade ourselves and pretend we are dead, we are teaching potential mass shooters if you are planning to do the job, double tap people to make sure they are dead, knock at the door like a wolf, and if no one is home, well, that means you have a bunch of quiet sheeps waiting to get slaughtered. The shooter probably thank the teachers for hording the sheeps, all in one area to get a good amount of numbers before making his mark in history, by riddling them with rounds. That is the truth. Again, when you think outside the box, it's a scary truth to swallow - to some people "laugh out loud".

When I bought my gun at a gun show in California, I first had to take a test, complete a background check form, wait 10 days to get the ok to go to a physical gun shop and get my gun. Alot of these shootings are emotionally based. If this guy had to wait days to receive his gun, maybe he would have rationalized his behavior and lives would have been saved. 😥

I feel that the most shocking thing is that not enough Americans are shocked enough to demand action from their politicians. If I try to adopt a dog at the local shelter more agencies will check my background including pictures of the fence and yard. I lost my brother to a stranger with an assault weapon. I was telling my boss the other day my plan if someone comes in shooting. It's not normal, I shouldn't be worried about how to save my own life because I can't let my mom lose another child. I don't live in a dangerous area, I'm not afraid to walk down the street at night, but I'm afraid of getting caught up in a random mass shooting.

GOP - We think nurses and doctors should always be armed while on duty. Hospital janitors should be trained in take downs and doors should be locked when ever possible.
Actually, our ER has a sheriff deputy on duty 24/7, and when a Code Gray (out of control patient/visitor) is called, all male personnel rush to the area and calmly defuse it by sheer numbers. We also have unarmed security, and visitors must check in and have their ID scanned upon entrance. We are not a soft target.
Edit: and a lockdown can be accomplished with the push of a button, and staff protects entrances and exits.

As a medical professional I should have every right to be armed within reason. You have no idea how many doctors are targeted for robbery in the parking lots of offices and hospitals. I train martial arts but I cannot reasonably be expected to protect myself from a surprise attack without a firearm. That's why I got a concealed carry license and firearm training.

There is no way you should be able to buy a gun and use it the same day.There should be a waiting period to allow for background checks.And the best solution is that all these military weapons should not be for sale at all.But that's common sense which in the United States doesn't seem to be that common.
They have this instant background check system in place nationwide. If you are flagged you have to wait while they do further checks. Or you can be denied outright. One problem is some localities don't report information the system quick enough or at all sometimes.

In the UK we have had a number of mass shooting events over the past 50 years - most were linked to the conflict in Northern Ireland. Up until the mid 1980s UK citizens could legally own the same weapons that are still legal in the US. Handguns and quasi-military shotguns and semi auto full centre fire long guns. They were banned following a mass shooting in the 1980s (Hungerford) and 1990s (Dunblane). We have had 3 mass shooting events in the UK since 2000. And 16 fatalities. That’s in 22 years. And bearing in mind we have one of the most pressured health services in the Western world I don’t think that our mental health care is any better than the US. And we have a much lower rate of active church goers than the US and a much higher tolerance to LBTQ+ and the rights of women to have abortions. So why does the US have a homicide rate 5 times higher than the UK?

Here in Finland we use guns mostly when hunting, after they're locked up in a gun safe. Other weapons like hand guns are only allowed to be used in a shooting range. No one here carries a guns around on his/her person, 1st it's illegal and 2nd it's not in our culture to carry guns on a person. Only the police carry guns in plain sight... Our society is a peaceful one, there's no need to be afraid of anyone, stranger or a friend. Violent crimes are a extreme minority in all the crime that happens... There’s no way to know when someone intends to use a legally purchased object to murder people. Laws were broken and will be broken again and again. Pass another law and these people will just break another law.
As for keeping guns out of the “wrong hands”, there’s often no way to predict the future based on an individual’s past. When there is, say for instance a perpetrator had a problematic psychiatric record or past juvenile history of violence or antisocial behavior, there are established legal walls that can only be breached by going to court. And nobody is going to court every time a gun buyer walks into a gun store.
Using that logic we should get rid of all laws.

Americans need to stop sending their kids to school until something is done by congress to address this unique American problem.
That 18 year old teenager used his life savings to let the world feel his pain and suffering due to being bullied by his peers, neglected by his family, and not being helped or acknowledge. Well, its sad and hurt breaking that we had to acknowledge that teenager after he made his mark in history by taking the life of those kids and teachers, ruining many people lives in the process, and secretly promoting (sending a subliminal message) to those that feel of no point of living to continue mass shooting. There is a balance like Ying and Yang. What is the yang for suicide? Homicide. Some will die alone and nobody or just a few would care, while others think of dying after they kill as many people in the process, to be acknowledged & letting everyone feel thier pain and suffering. When you think outside the box, it's a scary truth that people ignored.
Here's a fact. Everyone have the potential to kill. That being said, using strategy like barricading class rooms won't work anymore for shooters hoping to increase the number of casualties, create pain and suffering. What I mean by that? Well, we are teaching kids, teenagers, adults, everyone (civilian, military & government officials) what to do when a shooter occurs right? Well, remember, everyone has the potential to kill; therefore, while the elite leaders think it's best to keep assault rifles and semi-automatic weapons that can send bullets through walls of all kind (schools, shopping centers, cars, etc.) in stores, waiting to be brought or stolen, they failed to acknowledge that the potential shooter or shooters are also taking notes.
While we are teaching how to barricade ourselves and pretend we are dead, we are teaching potential mass shooters if you are planning to do the job, double tap people to make sure they are dead, knock at the door like a wolf, and if no one is home, well, that means you have a bunch of quiet sheeps waiting to get slaughtered. The shooter probably thank the teachers for hording the sheeps, all in one area to get a good amount of numbers before making his mark in history, by riddling them with rounds. That is the truth. Again, when you think outside the box, it's a scary truth to swallow - to some people "laugh out loud".

The vast majority of gun owners are good guys. Evil will always find a way. It's not the guns, they are just the tool. You have to defeat the person. Why do people want to do this?
