I am thankful for coming across your channel. I can see some of these things you do being used for a stage design. I first used the neon tubes to make a neon sign. Lots of soldering to make it work but it is used every Sunday at church.
Thank you so much Chris. Your videos have inspired me to start my own WLED projects, starting with similar corner lamps, but then probably with an rgb addressable 320 led/m 5v strip to see how that will work out. Keep it up, I can never wait to see one of your new creations!
Wow Man youre amazing! I when from zero knowledge around leds and now I feel im confident in setting up my own ws2815's! In fact Ive ordered everything!
Excellent video. I love the look of these lights but have only used the white versions already configured with single color. Didn’t know any of this existed and you do such a great job of explaining. Thank you.

It is interesting to see LEDs being bent laterally. I'm going to make a ring light for my circular shelf, and I thought I would have to use S-type "cobra" LEDs that are able to bend sideways. But if I can use standard LEDs instead, that would allow for a lot more options. I guess the most important thing is to not bend with too sharp of an angle.
I'm clearly not understanding something vital here... Just because the LED strip is inside the tube, how is it a bending horizontally? an led strip outside of the tube wouldn't bend that way, so why is it working inside the tube? Wouldn't the led strip sort of be forcing itself to rotate inside the tube to do that? Sorry if it's obvious and I just don't get it.
Google side emmiting led strip solve problem. His led strip is tilting and that is not good. Diffuser solve that problem so you see whole light. But I am more concern with spreading heat in that tube!
The angle the strip is bent is low so led strip is able to adjust for it inside the tube. If it was large angle, like 90 degree, then there would be issue.
Thanks so much for watching and great question! The led strip is able to handle the slight bend since the silicone tube is keeping it in place and my guess is that the led strip around the bends is being lifted slightly inside the tube in order to make the turns. However if you were wanting to do a design with more bend, I would then look at getting something where the led strip is vertically installed like this: amzn.to/41e2VIT
Hell yeah! Very nice. I just got my 1st strip of the Sk#### RGBW leds. I played around with the wled app. Love it. This saved me hours/ maybe months on the project I had in mind. Now the fun begins.
Killed 5 leds of my strip while inserting in the silicon tube, both are 1 cm wide, so I thought that it would be a easy insertion with thread but no, u need a bigger hole like 1.2cm to insert 1 cm wide strip. Also the thread is broken too. Gonna use your cut and slit method now. Thank you so much.

So how do you get the steing through in the traditional method. You kinda went from tying string to led strip to suddenly 3m of string had been fished through.
Signal RGB on PC just recently released an update that supports WLED, going to somewhat mimic this project in my sons room and sync them up to his gaming PC LEDs.
Thank you for another great video. I picked up a set of the 2812b, the silicon diffuser, some esp32’s and pet supply per your links. Set it up last night for fist time with all and works great but I can see the individual leds in the silicon diffuser. They are not as blended as in your video which is fine for certain effects like “Noise” but not all. Any settings that can help make it better? Thank you again. Appreciate all your sharing of great content.
Thanks so much for watching and I'll have to do that at some point! Although its probably a lot less than you would think. I pretty much only use this stuff at night and since its all just used for ambient lighting, there is no need to run them very bright.
@@ChrisMaherDIY I am a total novice, and haven't purchased any LED components yet. I have just started watching your videos tonight and I was wondering about the power supply you chose for this project? My understanding is that the power consumption for 600 5V LEDs would be 180 watts and 36 Amp so I would need a BTF-LIGHTING DC5V60A Max300W to adequately power at optimum brightness correct?
I learned something new! I am planning a build using 4 leds in a display cabinet and I was gonna feed them all to one data pin but now I see that I can try what you did but I saw you use the D2, D4, and D5 pin. What other pins can I use for my 4th led? And how many pins can be used for data? I have an esp32 wroom 32s board that is almost identical to the one you used in the video.
Thanks so much for watching! I'm not even 100% sure but I always refer to this: kno.wled.ge/features/multi-strip/#:~:text=There%20is%20a%20maximum%20of,a%20total%20of%201024%20LEDs. for more information. They make it sound like you can use any pin on an esp32 for data and up to 10 strips but I would read through the document to see if I'm missing anything!
Hello, with this way I can do it with 2 esp32 to control 3600 LEDs.? And what would be the synchronization between the 2 esp32 so that the 3600 LEDs perform the same effect?
Where do i get premade templates like chassing fire etc for my uhd neon led - RGBIC neon rope lights? Come with lots on the app but be good to have more complex ones
Thanks so much! Yes these would work great for inside and outside corner. However if you need to make sharp angles, or curves on a wall then you would need to use a design more like this one: amzn.to/41fEOtk
Is there a way to use Flexible Neon Tube to spell out a sentence? More specifically for Christmas ... is there a way to spell "Merry Christmas" and put it outside (in the backyard)? 1) Are there templates so that letters look nice? 2) Are there any materials I need to endure outdoor elements (rain and sun)?
Amazon videos as always, you are my LED Knoledge MUST WATCH! I do have a question, I do have a project of 20 Led strips lines WS2812B 60Leds/m (4 separated segments of 120 lead each) to cover the ceiling all over the place, I use the same GPIO per 3 strips and just Sync all to one Wled and I ithink i have like 6 Wleds up there, but watching this I thinki maybe there is a better way to connect, if you are in my situation, how would you orginze all the 20 line strips? Perhaps 7 Wleds using GPIOS (D2,D4, D5)?
Hey there Chris, thank you for the awesome and clear tutorial. I have been watching your videos and have been inspired to do a project here in my bedroom. I have a couple of questions as a beginner: 1.) I am running a total of 8 LED strips. Would it be okay to use a single ESP32? Or would you recommend getting another controller? 2.) I will be using WS2812B with 60 LEDs/m and I am planning on getting the 3m one. Would there be any voltage drop issues or inconsistencies? 3.) Is the 5v20A power supply the best option for running 8 LED strips? Help is appreciated! Thank you Chris and may God bless you.
great job as always...quick question, how do you do it, that the Leds are the only thing that is visible? like im sure the Room is brighten out a bit and usually you would see some Surroundings ..thx
Thanks as always buddy! Great question. So first thing I usually do is turn the lights down. If you have them super bright, its hard for the camera to pick up the actual colors of the leds and everything just comes across as a white type very bright effect. Next is i lower the brightness level on my camera a little so that it reduces some of the noise. Thats all I do!
Another great video Chris! Did that configuration of silicone strip diffuse the light really well? Can you still see some "hot" spots at 60 LED/m? There are some where the strip has a 90deg offset to the strip lens. Trying to figure out the most diffused option. Thanks!
Thanks buddy! They do look very good at 60 leds/meters (which is what I used in this video). The aluminum diffuser channels that I use from Muzata is what I would consider truly spotless using 60 leds per meter. These would be very close behind those in terms of being truly spotless but are not quite there. I also tested them out using 100 leds per meter and they were of course perfect using those but at least for me the difference was not significant enough to justify needing more power and more expensive strips. Hope that makes sense!
Chris I just have a different question so I’m looking for led lights for my sprinter van to make it more noticeable on the road and I would like to put them on outside and on top of the regular lights any suggestions please
Loved your videos, i did recreate your corner lighst and i looks amazing, the only thing i couldn’t figure out was connecting it to alexa, i did turn on the feature but my alexa cant find it, any tips ?
Thanks so much for watching buddy! Here is a video I've seen that does a good job in regards to the Alexa. I personally have yet to set alexa up but at some point I will and I'll for sure make a video on it! ua-cam.com/video/30yO1zTDAk0/v-deo.html
Hey chris sir, great vid and inspiration 🙏🏽🙏🏽thanks.. could you please tell me whats the track of music that plays at the end please? And where to buy it
Thanks for watching! If the data line is long coming off the controller to the first LED then I've done that or used the sacrificial pixel method to boost the signal of the data line. But in this install, i wired everything up with no boost and everything worked just fine so I didn't do anything else.
Great question! I would say what I did in this video is about close to the max bend with this type of design where the led strip is horizontal to the wall. Anything more, you would want to go with a design like this: amzn.to/41fEOtk
Question on using multiple pins/strips with one controller. Is there a way to make 2 pins do the same animation while the 3rd does something else? Example. I have 1 string and at the end 2 strings that form a Y. Can the 2 strings do the same together? Imagine a fuse that Ys, you light the fuse (string 1) and the fuse burns (leds go on and off) and once the fuse burns to the other 2 fuses (strings 2 and 3) they both ignite and burn (same leds on each strip go on and off down the strip)? I have an idea where 1 string leads to 2 or more and want the effect to travel from 1 to 2 or more not go from end to end? Maybe it's possible using reversing, idk. But I thought I would ask.
Thanks for all the great info on LEDs and WLED. I have a good time replacing many of your creations. Tell me please: do the WLED effects change with the type/model of LED strip attached to the controller? I am running WLED 0.13.3. I see many effects in this video that are not available on the WLED I am using. Thanks!
Thank so much for watching! As far as I know the leds wont make a difference in terms of animation but the version of WLED that you are running will. I should have mentioned that I was using the 0.14.0-b1 beta release which can be installed at install.wled.me Also keep in mind that the animations will drastically change depending on how you tweak the slider options.
Thanks for the comment and I agree! If the supports were spaced out more then there for sure could be some bend but they are close enough where they should be just fine over time!
Does WLED work with google home/amazon Alexa?? Also can you like use NFC tags to turn the lights off/on again or do you always open the app and do it manually?
Great question! I know it works with Alexa even though I personally have not tried it. Maybe check out this video: ua-cam.com/video/30yO1zTDAk0/v-deo.html I have not seen any nfc type applications but that very well could be possible and I just am not aware of it.
@@ChrisMaherDIY ngl i'd be way to lazy to do that for all 50+ LEDs you have😂😂 i'm even to lazy to open the smart lights app to turn on/off my smart light on my room, for a while now I've literally just used the light switch that cuts of the complete power of the light bulb😂🥲
Can you elaborate for me if this style of a setup can be controlled by Alexa? Or is there more modules needed? Could you consider doing a video expanding regarding the how to? Please abdicate me. Thank you.
Hey @ChrisMaherDIY I'm trying do recreate what you have done here, do you have the measurements of where to put the mounting points for the 3m of rope with the radius that you chose?
Thanks to your videos I just found out about WLED and the ESP32….. got a (probably very basic) question: The led strips could be 5, 12 or even 24 volts…. Can the ESP32 be feed those same voltages? Or would I need a separate power supply for the LEDs and the board? My most immediate use will be running on a 12V car battery, that’s why I ask.
Well... some more digging on the web and I think found the answer: The ESP32 needs 5v, so I need a DC step down or Buck voltage converter. They even sell some specifically to use on car batteries with both under and over voltage protection.
Thanks for all your videos Chris. I'm about to start my first project. 12m of SK6812 lights, placed in diffusers around the ceiling. I'd like to make a continuous loop effect. I've bought 2x5m and 2x1m sets with a 5v 20a 100w supply. BTF suggest adding power every 5m. Question is.... With WLED, can I combine these strips into 1 long loop using software, or do I need to physically connect the 5m+5m+1m+1m by soldering the strips together, as well as adding power at 0m, 5m, 10m. Hope that makes sense?
Thanks so much for watching! So if you were trying to make a bend on an inside corner of a wall or outside corner, these would work great for that. If you were trying to make a bend on the wall, then these would not work great for that. The bend in my design for this video is about as much as you can do with this type of product where the led strip is horizontal to the wall. If you want to make a sharper bend, the I would go with this type of design: amzn.to/41e2VIT
Do you think these would work in replacement for the aluminum channels in your "EPIC DIT RGB Desk Mod +Cable management" Video? I used the aluminum channels but cut them with a jigsaw, and they came out janky AF. If these bend to a 45-degree angle to go around corners nicely, I would like to try them instead of making a new set of the other channels. Bob Villa I am not... Thanks!
Thanks for watching and great question! These would work good for around a desk! I know the sticky tape I used would not work so you might have to go with the aluminum brackets. These do look very good with 60 leds per meter but the aluminum diffuser channels do look a little bit better from a perfectly diffused standpoint. The other thing that might be an issue is that if you use the brackets to secure, in between the brackets there will be a little bit of sag since this product is not meant to be rigid. Hope that all makes sense!
@Chris Maher how easy is this to bend on the wall? With the strip being horizontal to the wall (rather than some other neon ropes which have it at 90 degrees), this looks like it would be difficult to make sharp angles with installed on a wall. Is this true or am I missing something?
Thanks for watching buddy and great question! The amount of bend I did in this video is about the most I would try doing with this type of horizontal led setup. If you were wanting to make 90 degree then a product similar to this type of design is what you would want to go with: amzn.to/41e2VIT
Hi Chris, great videos !! Is there any particular reason for you to go for the 5v led strips instead of the 12v like the ws2815? I`m planning a 35/40 meters led setup for our home but not sure what's best to buy. I don't want to have monstrous power supplies everywhere. Or maybe It would be better to go for the govees? Thank you !!!
Hi and thanks for this video I really like the neon tube design and went out and bought one of those side emitting tubes after seeing this. However I messed up and bought one that only support 8mm wide strip and it wont fit what I already have. That being said that mess up could be a blessing for me in that thin channel looks really good and will work for me in a few projects I want to do. One in particular is in my vehicle it hides great however, I am having a really hard time finding an 8mm wide strip that is individually addressable that will fit in there sold in the US. Do you know of any. I tried amazon and there is nothing in there and BTF or ATOLF hasn't responded back to any emails. can you point me in any direction? I am really new to all of this and any help would be appreciated.
Great video and demo as always Chris, Do you know in the configuration menu you can set the 3 pins as 3 separate segments so you can have different animations on each or sinc like you have done?. I hope you are well mate 👍🏻
Thanks as always buddy! I was able to set them to their own segments but the video was getting long so I decided to not get into any additional setting! Appreciate the comment and good looking out!
I am going to be pedantic and say these are not neon tubes. It's LED's designed to mimic neon tubing. Other than that, looks pretty good. It still is LED strips, so you do have that directional type light that neon tubes don't have, but the flexibility, and the low voltage levels, definitely make it easier to deal with than neon tube for the DIY'r . I do like the flexible diffusers, they give a really nice, smooth looking light pattern
Thanks so much for watching and taking the time to comment! You are right! didn't even realize I didn't really give my overall impression of them. They are great overall. Very well diffused. Not quite as good as the Muzata aluminum channels that i've used a lot in my videos but still looks great with 60 leds per meter and truly spotless when I used them with 100 leds per meter. They get very bright but for what I use them for (ambient light at night) I never have them anywhere near as bright as they can go since it would just be way too much. I'm hoping to at some point do some comparison videos down the road! Thanks!
your project is 3 lines of led and the first line is connected to D2 then the second line is connected to D4 and the 3rd line is connected to D5. what if I'm going to do 4lines instead of 3lines of led that you made? I prefer to assign 125 pcs. of led per lines. 125 led x 4lines = 500 led where do i connect the 4th line on the data pin?
@@colomb0222 ahh is see! You could use a smaller or larger one. But for this type of led strip that I'm using in the video you do need a 5v supply. The amps will be different depending on what you want to do. If you want to run all the light at full brightness, you might need a larger supply and you might need to do some power injection but if you only wanted to run them very low and maybe set the brightness limiter to a lower amount, then you could probably get away with a smaller supply.

is it possible to control the 3 led stripes separately? To do like 3 different colors or patterns? Love your videos and how you easy you explain it!
Great video as always Chris! Can you give some insights on power consumption of your entire system?
Another project for me to try
@@ChrisMaherDIY Thanks! I'll give it a look.
Can you use these to spell out words? I can't imagine them overlapping I guess you could have to cut the tubing?
Hello, with this way I can do it with 2 esp32 to control 3600 LEDs.? And what would be the synchronization between the 2 esp32 so that the 3600 LEDs perform the same effect?
Where do i get premade templates like chassing fire etc for my uhd neon led - RGBIC neon rope lights? Come with lots on the app but be good to have more complex ones
great video chris, are these channels able to be used inside interior wall corners?
Thanks so much! Yes these would work great for inside and outside corner. However if you need to make sharp angles, or curves on a wall then you would need to use a design more like this one: amzn.to/41fEOtk
You should look into making a hypercube.
Can you program them like a timer yo go on at a certain time early morning then off late st night?
Is there a way to use Flexible Neon Tube to spell out a sentence? More specifically for Christmas ... is there a way to spell "Merry Christmas" and put it outside (in the backyard)?
1) Are there templates so that letters look nice?
2) Are there any materials I need to endure outdoor elements (rain and sun)?
Aiyo these are so cool
I have a couple of questions as a beginner:
1.) I am running a total of 8 LED strips.
Thank you Chris and may God bless you.
i need 😍😍😍😍
great job as always...quick question, how do you do it, that the Leds are the only thing that is visible? like im sure the Room is brighten out a bit and usually you would see some Surroundings ..thx
The power cord you recommended for the power supply will it work on the 60 amp 300 watt power supply?
Yeah it will work!
@@ChrisMaherDIY Wouldn't the Led strip burn up in the rope?
This is wow 🔥
Hey chris sir, great vid and inspiration 🙏🏽🙏🏽thanks.. could you please tell me whats the track of music that plays at the end please? And where to buy it
can we connect
this into alexa / sir
Hey are you using an IC Pixel LED or just a regular?
What about logic level to convert data voltage to 5v for leds?
Thanks for watching! If the data line is long coming off the controller to the first LED then I've done that or used the sacrificial pixel method to boost the signal of the data line. But in this install, i wired everything up with no boost and everything worked just fine so I didn't do anything else.
What is the max practical bend radius for this type of application?
Another banger! Just bought myself a miter saw. Now that the snow is melting I can start more projects! Will the Govee M1 Strips fit into these well?
@chrismaherdiy will these fit M1?
Given that it’s a silicone channel, I wonder if it will sag between your periodic supports with time?
Not in this case. They're fairly rigid and the supports in this example are sufficient to keep them in place.
Thanks for the comment and I agree! If the supports were spaced out more then there for sure could be some bend but they are close enough where they should be just fine over time!
Basically I'm asking if a regular RGBW cob led will be able to do the effects?
How much does this kinda thing cost
Hey Chris, so I put some led lights at the top on my room but i dont know how hid the power supply on the wall and ideas?
Does WLED work with google home/amazon Alexa?? Also can you like use NFC tags to turn the lights off/on again or do you always open the app and do it manually?
Great question! I know it works with Alexa even though I personally have not tried it. Maybe check out this video: ua-cam.com/video/30yO1zTDAk0/v-deo.html I have not seen any nfc type applications but that very well could be possible and I just am not aware of it.
@@ChrisMaherDIY so you basicly open the WLED app every time and manuelly turn the leds on? Thanks a lot
@@lmaopew yeah that's currently what I do! Your welcome!
Thank you.
Fantastic
Hey @ChrisMaherDIY I'm trying do recreate what you have done here, do you have the measurements of where to put the mounting points for the 3m of rope with the radius that you chose?
But the whole question at the introduction was never answered. Are these a game changer ? When to use which? Please finish the video… 😢
Holy crap, Chris did ya see the new Govee neon rope Desk strip? ❤
Thanks to your videos I just found out about WLED and the ESP32….. got a (probably very basic) question:
The led strips could be 5, 12 or even 24 volts….
You da man
dupont connectors ...FYI
VIN = voltage in
GND = ground in
Thanks for all your videos Chris.
How well can that bend corners of a wall?
Thanks so much for watching! So if you were trying to make a bend on an inside corner of a wall or outside corner, these would work great for that. If you were trying to make a bend on the wall, then these would not work great for that. The bend in my design for this video is about as much as you can do with this type of product where the led strip is horizontal to the wall. If you want to make a sharper bend, the I would go with this type of design: amzn.to/41e2VIT
Girlfriend told me straight lines are ugly. These are wonderful
Freakin awesome!
For short runs like these you can get away with lower volts. For longer runs off LEDs you'll need the 12 volts and 24 volts.
Will esp32 output 2 different lights effect from D2 and D4 pin?,ty
I am surprised you didn't have the wires in the corner of the room.
Great video and demo as always Chris,
Do you know in the configuration menu you can set the 3 pins as 3 separate segments so you can have different animations on each or sinc like you have done?.
I do like the flexible diffusers, they give a really nice, smooth looking light pattern
would of been nice to see how you hid the power supply and wires.
Thanks so much for watching! I'll probably just end up doing something similar to what I did in this video: ua-cam.com/video/ibRp6eeUwBA/v-deo.html
@@ChrisMaherDIY Cool Idea, Thanks for the link.
Mate, you completely forgot the review part. What are your thoughts on the silicone diffuser, do they work good? Diffuse well? Brightness etc.
125 led x 4lines = 500 led
where do i connect the 4th line on the data pin?
I want!!!!
I can't understand, what's the point of using 3 different data?
Need font 5v 20a? tkz
Thanks for watching! I'm not sure what your asking. Sorry! what does font mean?
@@ChrisMaherDIY Sorry, power supply! 5v 20a would be for this amount of led? to supply 5 meters it needs to be 20a too?
@@colomb0222 ahh is see! You could use a smaller or larger one. But for this type of led strip that I'm using in the video you do need a 5v supply. The amps will be different depending on what you want to do. If you want to run all the light at full brightness, you might need a larger supply and you might need to do some power injection but if you only wanted to run them very low and maybe set the brightness limiter to a lower amount, then you could probably get away with a smaller supply.
I feel like ive seen you on the govee community...
