On today's program, I began a discussion on Christology based on Revere Franklin Weidner's Christology. I discussed Ebionite and Docetist heresies.

I love the quotes around the word “scholars” when referring to the Jesus Seminar.😊 I was exposed to a lot of that when I was in grad school. It always struck me how many assumptions they had to make before getting to their conclusions. But the assumptions never seemed to be tested.

Perhaps you could do both at the same time, comparing the historical contemporaries of heretic(s) and Father(s). But whatever approach you take, it would be fun to take in. Blessings.

Hi Dr.Cooper. Thank you for your videos. They are always so helpful.
You have said before in other videos that in the incarnation, not only did Christ assumed a human nature, but he also assumed humanity as a whole.
Can you provide references (books, articles, ect.) on where one can find a presentation and defense of that? Is this something distinctly Lutheran, or are others having this view?
Or maybe you can do a video on it, nothing the implications of such a view, specially of the idea that Christ assumed a fallen human nature (Do you still hold this view?) possibly because he assumed all of humanity(?), etc.

There is a question that we don't see much: Why is there a second person in the Trinity: Jesus?
Why do theologians tell us that we are an army of sinners and God has one man in the Trinity?
Why is the Trinity based on the masculine (God the Father/God the Son) and not the feminine?
(First God created Adam and from Adam He formed Eve. Why?).
We don't know, do we? But for the little we know, sometimes we feel like we know everything!

I think you had a methodological problem, and is saying that to accept the distinction between the historical and the faith Jesus is a kind of docetism when it's not, because accepting biblical unhistorical narratives is not to defend the faith but just being naive. Off course there are words in the bible supposedly said by Jesus which actually weren't, moreover the purpose of them are not to be historical but to express the faith of the followers
Not accepting those historical issues makes Christian faith to be seen as a sort of beliefs lack of seriousness
By the way, I'm an atheist theologian and I give your channel very interesting. Keep it going 💪🏼

@@DrJordanBCooper 13:45 You said "we're talking about the divine nature as hypostatically united to humanity" when we talk about who died on the cross. Who possesses this particular divine nature? You said it's not "divine nature in itself," right? Firstly, I'm not sure what that would be or who claims the divine nature in itself dies. Secondly, I'm not coming as a skeptic of trinitarianism; I'm asking because what you said seems odd to me. I'm more easily persuaded by Dr. Scaer's explanation that God dies but that we're simply wrong to consider this an annihilation.

    • @dylan3456
      @dylan3456 2 роки тому

@@DrJordanBCooper At about 13:40 you say, "the divine nature can't die -- which is true by the way...but we're talking about the divine nature as hypostatically united to humanity..." Could you say more about this? I was recently more convinced, after a bit of research, by Dr. David Scaer's explanation that death is improperly defined if we are hung-up on the death of God. For Scaer, "death" is too often considered "annihilation" which he thinks is an unbiblical definition. Do you consider death annihilation?

@@dylan3456don’t tell me, you don’t understand those simple things?
You read in Romans 1:19-23 that the divine nature of god is plain to us, it could be seen and understood in his created things.
The trinity is plain. And can be understood.
You probably will burn in hell as a heretic if you question the simplicity of this plain doctrine, which is communicated in the Bible so clearly, that it took 400 years to develop it. 😂

The testimony of Scripture does not support the concept of him having two natures. How so? If our Lord had two natures he would have MPD (multiple personality disorder). It is really a Nestorian understanding and is not correct. He had one nature, a human one, BUT his spiritual identity was that of the Logos. He did miracles, not by his own power, but the Father doing his work in him by the Holy Spirit. He was deity in his spiritual identity, and the fact he had the Holy Spirit without measure, and the DNA of his Father. If asked why he didn't know the day and hour of his return the usual reply is that he didn't know in his human nature only. That is Nestorian!
