    Hi, I really appreciate that unlike many channels that "promote" certain gear, you concentrate on the function of certain equipment and not particular brand/model. Great!

    Thank you for sharing your experience with us. And I completely agree with you regarding the color monitor. I, myself had gone through this situation. And the last advice you gave, to learn about cinematography, composition etc. That is really more important than the expensive gear especially when we are at the learning stage.

    Good points , but I think something that is overlooked by a lot of younger film makers is an EVF ... if you want one tool to make you a better shooter...forget looking at the monitor... compose and frame in the EVF

    I love this video but it’s out of reach for beginners.
    I think you should do something but budget .
    I’m having luck with gigs but I’m just getting my feet wet
    I don’t have the budget or credit to get most of these just yet.
    So far
    In my opinion
    -Camarera bag
    -Wireless audio system - use Ai to clean it up
    -cheap but good light
    - good c-stand
    -tripod
    -gimbal
    -good lens

    Monitor is very very important. I worked professionally editing commercials 8 hours a day 5 days a week full time job editing and this facility wasn’t a dedicated “production company” they were just a manufacturing & retail company and I was part of their marketing team. The monitor I had in my office had terrible backlight bleed and a very strong magenta color shift. This would completely destroy any reference of contrast and color. Would have to rely on scopes but with the work I was doing scopes wasn’t always a problem solver. And with product videos color is very important so I as working with a handicap. They didn’t understand the importance of me getting a new monitor even though they could see the issues with color they would think it was my grading that was the issue not that I’m pretty much working blind off scopes. After around 7 months of that I quit. They wouldn’t allow remote work which sucked because I had fully calibrated monitors at home in my home office and would save me the hour drive. Reference monitors that are calibrated is so so important. I brought my calibration tool to my office at work to try and fix the colors but the backlight bleed was so bad throwing off the contrast nothing could really fix that.

    Hi Alex, how do you work with the calibri color chart? Do you make color adjustments in lightroom and export it as lut for video or are you doing the correction inside premiere/davinci?

    • @Alexzarfatifilms
      @Alexzarfatifilms  8 місяців тому

      I color grade mostly in Premier Pro. I know that da Vinci is superior when it comes to color grading but I just got used to working in Premier and for me it works great.

    What are your thoughts on using a phone as a monitor?

    • @Alexzarfatifilms
      @Alexzarfatifilms  9 місяців тому +1

      I think you could get away with it for really low budget projects or shooting by yourself but I wouldn’t recommend using your phone on a shoot for clients. That being said, I’ve never used my phone as a monitor and as long as you can get good focus peeking and see your image then it’s good but again for optics for higher end clients I wouldn’t do it.

      @fritzroysmith8526 actually like I said, before none of this gear was given to me. This was all gear that I bought myself. However, there are videos on my channel with sponsored film gear.

    • @Alexzarfatifilms
      @Alexzarfatifilms  10 місяців тому +38

      lol how can I be trusted? UA-cam is a free platform and there are a few ways content creators can actually monetize their channel and be able to pay their bills for making high-quality free videos.
      I put out nearly 200 FREE videos before I got my first sponsor. I put in the hard work dedication and every moment of my free time to make free content and tutorials for filmmakers.
      You guys have to understand that UA-cam ads pay such a small amount of money and definitely not sustainable to continue producing free videos.
      Just because there’s a sponsored ad in between this video doesn’t negate the fact that all of this film gear that I’m talking about really changed the way I produce content.
      In a day and age where everything is monetized and everything sponsored I understand what your concern is but at the same time content creators have to make money and eat too.
      Do you know how many times I’ve seen Peter McKinnon or Mark Bone put an ad in their video? And you absolutely cannot negate the gold that they give you in their videos, so why is it any different for me?

    • @TLOverlander
      @TLOverlander 10 місяців тому +2

      @Alexzarfatifilms oh no, I totally get it. For sure...
      But do they ask you to read from a script or something?
      Would be so much nicer if it were possible to integrate the sponsor into the actual video... Like showing how YOU literally used it to make the video...? 🤷
      But good on you for having sponsorship 👍🏻

    • @Alexzarfatifilms
      @Alexzarfatifilms  10 місяців тому +6

      @TLOverlander it’s not necessarily a script but they give you guidelines. And I get what you’re saying I’ve done videos like that before with something like a musicbed sponsor and that’s easy to integrate because it’s something that I use every day but Skillshare isn’t something that I use to produce content
