Great video hard to believe that forages are used to make energy. How far away is the bio plant? I'd love to see a video how and where the crop is stored and used.
What remember from my own research, its about a 20 to 1 energy production to usage ratio. That would consider the amount of gas produced per ton of forage and the energetic value of the gas itself and the diesel fuel. The highest amount of fuel usage is right at the forage harvester (about 1.6 tons of silage per liter of fuel), others being the transport and filling of the silage clamp and the process of establishing the crop. If what you mean is that the tractors use diesel instead of using methane as a fuel source, then I absolutely understand. I really hope New Holland finally develops Methane powered tractors, if not ill just drop a gas turboshaft from a helicopter into an old forager and see what happens. Also to consider, Oilseed rape is a great oil source for biodiesel production and also a good crop that can be rotated with grain crops (such as rye).
I agree with mis nomen. That's almost as bad as those idiots that drive electric cars and brag that they aren't using fossil fuels but plug it in to a plug powered by the coal burning power plant 20 miles away.
