I, an ex-GI,, went to a small local Thai restaurant near home in the US. I immediately got into my respectful mode. The waiter, I think,was the cook and struggled with his English. He brought us the wrong appetizer, but it tasted good. I didn't confront him on his mistake, because it would have pained him. The Thai saying is "my pen lie," "it doesn't matter." The politeness is contagious.
Thai people is unique for me, it s like whatever the time, even like 400 years ago they would have the same quiet and respectful behavior because they really like and enjoy their country and culture and they dont need anything else in the end !

I was blessed with the government tour of Thailand in '72--Korat, U-Tapao, Takhli. The Thai people were wonderful, the food great, and the memories forever.
So cool as video was so uncommon back then. Glad someone took the initiative to do this. Love it. Lived there 3 years. Good..and bad memories. Forever a part of my history.
The yellow Ford Transit belonged to my father! My family lived there for 10 years. On the van it said "Alt Heidelberg". That was my father's restaurant.
Beautiful scenes of a Thailand that is now only a memory, population about 40 million. Now it is 70 million! Bangkok was so much nicer - look at the greenery and blue skies. Now all it needs is Judge Dredd to be Megacity. Thank God I was here to see it back then.

somthing is still like before. just can't found in downtown. now rattanakosin island and east side suburb is retain the traditional lifestyle like 50 years ago.
How about 1 baht for a boiled soy milk? Nowadays it's 15 baht for the same thing. Jeez my dad had it pretty good in terms of Gas prices and food. Notice there are still plenty of French and Italian cars back then now it just nothing but Japanese and increasingly Chinese cars,those French and Italian cars really add the colorful scene to the traffic.
My first visit to Bangkok was a year earlier in 1976. Brings back so many happy memories.
