High levels of incompetence. Most people assume they could just throw money at someone or even pay themselves and figure it out. As someone that's worked in the industry so much, I've seen these things and immediately can identify when people aren't competent enough to complete these projects. I hope people start to learn who they give their money too and actually start to demand a demo before investing in projects.
If you go to the Furballs kickstarter and look at the "veteran" developer team, it lists 1 person: John VanderZwet - AKA Paratus - AKA the lead dev of Identity. This is literally him moving onto another game and trying to use it to fund Identity, except being shady about it and acting as though some separate studio approached him to publish their game. This guy is pure sleaze.

Throwing money at a situation is not going to fix it especially in the video game industry essentially what you are paying for is the salaries of the people working on the game cause well I am guessing they have probably have pcs and decent hardware. They can hire artist which is so essential later on after youknow you actually design the shit if your a indie dev you shouldn't be worried about art until the final stage . It goes 1.Plotting 2.Coding Game mechanics (youknow making the game fun) 3.level design/Plotting (which you already should have done some) 4.Animations/Art notice how animations come first but they do go hand and hand. 5. Setting up online and making adjustments 6. Alpha bug test 7. fix bugs. 8. Test again 9.Beta/ maybe clean some stuff up 10. Fix more shit 11.Eventually release. After that your adding things and fixing bugs is what your worries should be. What it sounds like to me is poor management and lack of experience. Defiantly have a lack of focus as well I can 100 percent see someone going like while they are trying to accomplish their base goals "whoa dude what if this and this happened"..... "lets add that too" and they just keep doing that and accomplish noting in the process. Youknow if they were smart they could've made a steady source of revenue for themselves but they weren't.
Got the same email. Went home, installed the game, created the character, jumped into the lobby. The game is a bonafide steaming piece of shit. My camera legit was snapping all over the place. Sounds to me like the company that developed Furballs is a shell company of Asylum and they most likely secretly gave up on it a while ago to develop Furballs instead. Basically what's going to happen is they're going to siphon the rest of the money then declare bankruptcy on Asylum, protecting them from legal action and then hopefully Furballs will bring them better success. Oh by the way they carefully stated "No advertisements in game" -- there will be ads, just not in game. That's how they're going to make their money.

Except Star Citizen is actually playable. I paid $25 for a starter ship in Star Citizen and have played many many hours in what is an amazing universe. The game will never be "finished" because they will be constantly adding to it, but that doesn't mean it will never be PLAYABLE or that they won't come to a point where they release it as a full game. I missed this video when it released. I dropped $500AUD on kickstarter for Identity.. This was back when A2/A3 RP servers where still busy. Identity was going to be the next step in RP. The most ive ever payed to get fucked..
I'll say this, while the way the dev's handled the lost of funds very poorly, 1.6 million compared to the scope of this game is chump change. Hell, WoW took 63 million dollars to develop the original base game, not counting the over 200 million they have in the expansions. Identity was a victim of its large scope, small team, poor financial management, and lack of funding to begin with.
They were way to ambisious just like No Man Sky... Its completely unrealistic 1.6million dollars does not get you far in today's economy especially when they were trying to make a game onpar if not better than the GTA Online experience. Sad, I hope this kind of game still has a chance because regardless if identity flopped i still really want a game like this to play other than Gmod RP
