    As a retired person I could not retire in Madrid, Barcelona or Bilbao… just because the high prices, the crowds, and the tourists… but again some people don’t mind. I would rather choose a small town that offers nature, parks, cheaper prices and still gives up many things to do and places to discover 😊😊😊

    I strongly recommend a string of pearls, Denia, Javea, Beintachell, Moraira, Benissa, Calpe, Altea and Benidorm, located on the South Coast Line of Valencia. There are many Germans, Britons, Dutch and Belgians in this area. This is a common English area. You can easily meet friends from all countries in the bar. The most important thing is that the climate here is pleasant, with ample sunshine and reasonable prices.

    Basque Country/Pais Vasco is one of the most expensive regions in Spain, San Sebastian one of it’s most expensive cities, like Madrid & Barcelona, perhaps even more so! They speak Basque/Vasco, completely different to Castellano ( Spanish), and Spanish, so usually not a problem. It rains a lot! But green and lush.

    Costa del sol (particularly the Benalmadena area) was voted the number one place to live in Spain. Over 60% of the homeowners in this area are from the United Kingdom

    • @mikewa2
      @mikewa2 Рік тому +3

      Costa del Sol is a good area to retire to as it has excellent Road and rail connections. Malaga airport has easy access from most airports in Europe and direct flights from US in summer months. Some of the popular towns like Torremolinos and Benalmadena are not so great if you have mobility issues as they are hilly just off the coastal drag. Shopping is superb with all the luxury items you may have come to expect and for Americans a new Costco is opening in Malaga next year, there is a Costco in Seville already! Costa del Sol is developing at a rapid rate at the moment and the number of flights to Malaga is increasing. The weather is particularly good with the coast protected by a mountainous range a few miles from the coast. English is the second language but you will struggle a little without some Spanish. A lot of Uk residents have left due to Brexit and the restrictions on non EU. If you consider retiring here it is wise to rent for 6 months at least before purchasing. From experience it’s probably best to rent rather than buy if you will be wanting to return to home country in future, as selling a home can take years and can be very costly.
