- Folkestone Harbour station lies at the end of the steeple graded Folkestone Harbour Branch Line which joins the South Eastern Mainline at Folkestone Junction.
The branch and harbour station were used by boat trains from London which connected with the ferry services to Calais and Boulogne.
The branch and station closed to regular passenger train services in 2001 although the line and station continued to be used by the Venice-Simplon Orient Express (VSOE) and occasional railtours until 2009.
The line was officially closed on 31 May 2014.
In 2016, the Folkestone Harbour Company commenced refurbishment of the viaduct and the station, retaining the remaining tracks, and repairing the canopies and the Customs House.
The viaduct across the harbour was opened as a pedestrian route to the station in September 2017.
It is intended that the Folkestone Harbour station will become integrated into the future wider development of the beachfront and the harbour, with restaurants, workshops, galleries and nightclubs which will be built alongside the station platforms.
I like that they’ve kept much of the track and railway infrastructure in place. It’s a shame the trains are gone, but I respect that they’re acknowledging and preserving its history.
Indeed, they could have flattened the who place if they chose to.
Sometimes I go there there is an old station there it’s amazing that you can walk where trains went
It's great they've preserved the route and station for the locals and visitors to enjoy, but for me it's a little sad as I remember days out in Folkestone when I was a kid and seeing the trains and ferry terminal all going on there, but hey that's progress . Enjoyed watching thanks.

The old Harbour station of Folkestone, nicely restored, looks great as a public right of way to the harbour. The old signal box is a cafe
The more harbour and waterfront is going to become an event area, the more sense it would make to use this rail corridor for a tourist-shuttle by historical vintage trams as an attraction and clever transport solution, cross downtown to the city's high speed train station, where visitors come from. Very good operable in mixed traffic with the foreseen pedestrian promenade.
Love the videos mate, and they have done a great job, making sure it's surviving after its days are done a real credit to everyone involved
I love living in Folkestone. I’m a relative newcomer and have seen its positive changes with great pubs and restaurants. It’s sad the trains are gone but they’ve given way to the new growth and development of a previously run down town. I hope they make use of the tracks in the future for a train or tram to bring people right along and onto the harbour.

I remember that well at Folkestone usually good price and then go to shame I thought yellow steam train away
excellent video👍 i have been down there a couple of times they have done a great job with the station but would prefer it as a working railway pity heritage railway didn't take it over it would have made a great tourist attraction at the other end of the line where the bridge crosses the line it is overgrown with weeds and trees and i have also noticed the fly tippers are beginning to use it as a dumping ground which is not good 😡

Good that they've preserved some of the history while moving the place forward, well as much that will be possible post-brexit in a town like this.

Very true, a short branch line but with a lot a character. Always enjoyed my visits there.

Folkestone Harbour Branch opened before there was the EU or EEC or whatever.
It's interesting how people (often including me) get so saddened/disappointed when railways close and get demolished but there seems very little excitement when new railways get built.
One word for it SAD - why do we destroy everything good in this country?
post Brexit they need to reopen and modernise it .. some way of coming off the ferry and to the main line quickly... perhaps a road train... why are they so short sighted
Sadly I think it too late for that to happen now.
The Channel Tunnel only a few miles away means this would never happen. It's that which killed the train ferry that ran out of Dover up until the mid 90's
The whole of Britain is very shortsighted these days, the British Isles will become just that again, an off shore island off the Mainland of Europe. So sad!
