I am from Oklahoma and I never heard any thing about Bass Reeves until about a month ago>>>I'm 54 yrs old. As I listened to his story, I thought to myself this would make a great movie and look what I found. Isn't youtube wonderful. I can't wait to see your movie.
Wow about time everyone know who is the real Lone Ranger . History say he even went after one of his sons for killing his wife after she cheated on him. I didn't know they was making a movie about Bass Reeves until now. Thanks Marlon Ladd for sharing.>>>>>
It wasn't about Bass Reeves but the idea of the movie kinda came from Bass Reeves .Jamie Foxx mention in a interview about Bass Reeves and that kinda inspired him to do the movie. Now if you check out the Lone Ranger, then you got Bass Reeves>>>>>
The Lone Ranger wasn't based on Reeves. It's just something author Art T. Burton suggested in his book, Black Gun, Silver Star as a new angle. He never flat out said Reeves was the inspiration, but "suggested" it based on the five following points; 1. Reeves owned a gray horse (almost white) 2. Paying for a meal with a silver dollar (LR used silver bullets) 3. Not announcing himself as a federal marshal while on a case (LR wore a mask) 4. Claiming Reeves may have employed an Indian tracker because some bounty hunters at the time did (Tonto) 5.Claiming since the owner of the radio station the Lone Ranger originated in was a lawyer he may have heard about Reeves at a nearby correction facility (Burton didn't mention George W. Trendle was a contract lawyer, and not involved in criminal justice). When you look at the facts, Burton's narrative falls apart miserably. Reeves was a great lawman and deserves to stand on his own legacy, not being tied to a fictional character through the speculation of a writer looking for attention. There's a free ebook by Martin Grams thoroughly debunking the Lone Ranger connection: docs.wixstatic.com/ugd/41b57b_65fd2f2e944846ddbfa937d8449a43cf.pdf
I would love for Bass Reeves to get a big budget Hollywood movie along the likes of Young Guns. There are plenty of movies about the criminal element of the old west and few about the good men.
Most Hollywood producers and even directors would not start this project for fear that most whites( they no doubt purchase most theatre tickets would support the project because there is probably a high risk endeavor and few people are eager glorify a black true character, not in anyway wanting to acknowledge that African Americans contributed positively back during this error...Bass was a lawman from 1875 thru 1910...they prefer to fantasise the false elusion that the black man could not possibly have accomplished something as courageous as this required...Certainly not just a few years following the civil war. (1861 through 1865...they also enjoy hanging on the Narrative that African Americans fat too much of a coward to arrest 3,000 bad guys and defend himself by killing 14 bad guys who resisted! Yes! Indeed they are happy to exaggerate the the stories of Wyatt Earp, John Wesley Hardin, Sam Bass, Billy the kid and Pat Garrett..
If you read numerous and various accounts, the character 'Rooster Cogburn' in the early 'True Grit' series, mirrors the biographies and accounts of Bass Reeve , almost to a 'T'...right down to Judge Issac Parker and locale.
I'd love to do either on a much bigger scale, but the movie for this trailer is up here: ua-cam.com/video/B8BC2gvhdG8/v-deo.html Thanks for your comments. Please check it out, John and let me know what you think.
,This movie was originally written by Clarence Daniels and he has a copyright..So did Me lLadd contact Mr. Daniels to get permission to produce r use his writing to get this done. Mr Daniels is also related to Bass Reeves, so he also would know about this. Mr Daniels has been looking for inactive for years trying to get this produced, but Century 21 and others only wanted a smaller version and wanted to buy his copyright to take credit for the entire writing. I was part of the proofreading and editing of Bass Reeves when Mr. Daniels was trying to get it produced. His production company was called Joker Production.
Sharon Gibson What in the world are you talking about? I wrote this movie myself based on the real life history of Bass Reeves. I am the only one that has the copyright to this movie.
Denzel is wayyyyyy too old, however he would be a great choice...Denzel is a wonderful actor nonetheless...he is tall enough smart enough..He stands 6'"2 and ( I'm referring to Bass) to the real life Bass Reeves...actually Denzel is also approx 6' and was once very athletic...Anyway, I'm rather eager to get the movie going...
Hey, Amy. HBO was developing something, but it's on hold for now. This is my own short film that I paid for out of my own pocket. I'm the writer/director/editor and I also play the role of Bass.
The concept sounds intriguing, yet the production level looks to be quite lacking. Regrettable to create a cinematic realization of the Lone Ranger within a😮low-budget😢production model.
I respect your opinion. However, I’m an independent filmmaker and one of the only few to actually have cared enough to make 3 films to date about Bass Reeves. Thousands of people have appreciated this film and have thanked me for telling the story. It would be nice if more people like you helped to monetarily to get these stories told on a high level, rather than complaining from the sidelines.
@@marlonladd On the contrary, the inherent problem, I see with commercialization of art, is that by submitting art this way makes it a consumable commodity subject, therefore, to the consumer's caviat, not solely an adoring, or not, audience.

Willie Gordon - Django was not about Bass Reeves. It was just a made up story about about a black cowboy. Good movie though! 👍🏽

Wow...this is long overdue...and the perfect trailer...great acting!!!
Thanks!!
No one in Hollywood will touch his story, but, let's do 8 Avengers movies
Exactly!!

So true, unfortunately.

This subject deserves a better budget.
GREAT!!!
Excellent. Great work.
ramone Lawrence big l Thanks, man!
I want to see this so badly.
Hi, Brent! Did you see the link for the film? It’s up. Thanks for commenting!
Looks pretty cool.
When is it coming out?!? About darn time they talked about THE first African American Marshall. And so relatable to the Lone Ranger 🤠🤠 yeeee hawww
Clair Strange - I'm close to being done, but it'll be hitting the Film Festival circuit first.
Marlon Ladd Man shoutout to you for bringing more POSITIVE black history into the light....
The Dog Whisperer this where the lone ranger came from
The movie is up: ua-cam.com/video/B8BC2gvhdG8/v-deo.html
There is a reason why the lone ranger wears a mask. It basically represents a black man without having to say it lol
Yeah buddy!!!!
Where are you'll at, where's return of The Badd to the Jones???
Curtis Person - Once I finish this film, I'll be back on Bad To The Jones; Renegade. This summer!
Is this a movie, or are you considering a TV series? Reeves had a long career, could be told over a few seasons. Best wishes and success to you.

Great Idea for a movie! Bass Reeves is not the one to be trifled with.
Good. Cant wait. BW

if they ever do make a bass reeves movie they should get danzel Washington to play him because he did a good job in the magnificent 7 movie
He looked like him in that movie too.

hey marlon, just wondering what is your involvement with this film? Because I thought Morgan Freeman was developing this at HBO as a miniseries.
Hey, Amy. HBO was developing something, but it's on hold for now. This is my own short film that I paid for out of my own pocket. I'm the writer/director/editor and I also play the role of Bass.
Glad someone is finally doing something about Mr. Reeves but that was god awful!
bass or (badd-ass) reeves was "no-doubt" a bad-dude but the movie (seems-weak)!
