This is such a solid concept, it doesn't need to be a 1 off at all. This could be done over and over again and always turn up interesting results. Congrats Pat this legitimately could be a "then we fight" format with A LOT of legs. Years of legs. Stick with this in the rotation it's a very solid idea.

He wanted to make the battle interesting and not a sweep. It's all about content after all, not winning.
In addition to what the other commenter said, he already had two dragons on the team with Garchomp and Rayquaza, Eevee's evolutions let him fill out the typings with more variety

having 3 dragons... wouldn't be that great of an idea to be honest...
To the people who commented before me: You have to be a special kind of stupid to think it's worth bringing a 525 BST Pokémon over a 690 one just because you already have the typing of the latter.

Yeah, I'm pretty sure it is meant to have a 100 percent catch rate just because of the story.

PATTERZ, VIDEO IDEA! You and a friend act out the cries of the randomized starters to the other and then they choose! 🎉
Now reverse it, 5 support pokemon used to power one super mon, example:
Host: Noivern
Typing: Ghost/Normal
Ability: Pixelate
Moves: Quiver Dance, Boomburst, Roost, U-turn
Support Pokemon:
Slyveon- Gives Ability (Pixelate)
Chandalure- Gives Special Attack stat
Blissey- gives Hp stat
Husian Zoroark- gives Typing
Ribombee- gives a Move: Quiver dance
(Could even boost it by doing all stats or all moves for support, up to the creators of it for a super mon)
Had Pat taken Eternatus instead of Eevee, he would've won...

Dude how do you randomize that game? I’ve tried and it doesn’t let me catch certain Pokémon even if I have the DLC installed
I haven't seen Nexus in a long time he's actually a great choice for this spelling battle.
In your place I would decide what to write first. And I would totally pursue the Arceus road.
Then you get Arceus' ability for any pokemon with a terrible typing, if necessary, extreme speed, Judgement (plate to change the typing) and just about any decent move in the game.
Multitype, unfortunately, only works for arceus
