Is the music muted at 0:41? From the Walkman? UPDATE - UA-cam have told me they have fixed and will be fully sorted within 48 hours.... Kinda annoying this happened to be on a video about AUDIO but hey-ho.... enjoy! (I hope!)
To wash off paint especially silver like in your walkman I do not recommend to use abrasives, but instead alkali may be useful. Greetings from Russia & best wishes!

Take it from this old man: No you don't. I grew up on them. Discman allows you to skip to songs, with a walkman, you need to forward actual long tape. It takes a bit. Only fun thing is that it picks up where you left it.
You might not be the most knowledgeable or have the best technique yet but I appreciate your willingness to dive and and do what you can anyway to show others they can do all the same. Not to mention there's just something oddly comfy about your videos. Love this channel, keep up the awesome work!
I love your hobby, job or whatever you do! I mean, what you do is beautiful, when you discover the hidden spaces of these pieces that impacted the joys of so many people in the 80s and 90s. I myself gladly keep a copy of these, my mother gave it to me in my adolescence and with this material, I will be able to do the maintenance it requires to keep it active. It seems to me a beautiful piece, with sophisticated lines, reliable and unique. Thank you for this space, for all that dedication
Great video! If you can't find a suitable replacement mic, you may be able to solder a resistor in series with the microphone to adjust it's amplitude! 👍🏻

12:58 quick tip, if you want to sample the colour you wish to use without the hassle of getting mistakes and redo your paints, use those big disposable clear/white spoons, to sample your paints. Just spray on to those spoons then compare them. Without potentially damaging your workpiece.
Just some advice. I restore old amplifiers. I like to only paint the sides that don't have screen printing. You can tape off the whole side with printing. Then paint all the other areas. If the paint matches it will be very good and you will preserve the printing. Also put a coat of polyurethane over the top. Be sure to use the finish that matches matte or semi gloss or gloss.
Yay! Another retro futures Walkman vid! Love it. Have you considered doing a later Walkman like a direct drive model? Love my DD and the sound is the crispiest that’s I have ever experienced from a cassette.
Pretty cool seeing how complex these things are and it really shows how we have advanced from there. Personally I'm more of an iPod junkie (currently daily driving a 5th gen classic, thanks DankPods for brainwashing me and restoring my love for iPods again), but everything has its place and I wouldn't mind having one of these around.
Love the walkman content Eliot! If you ever wish to dive into some digital audiophile stuff, Sony's modern NW, ZX, and WM walkman series are great players!
I told you on the Walkman group to stencil it or laser etch what you painted Anyway looks good and i like that you changed the old tape with new kapton tape
Can you please confirm this for me: Didn't you do a review/repair video on a "JIL Walky Music" TPS-L2 knockoff player? I just had found one at a thrift store and I was pretty sure you did review it
I have an original Sony Walkman TPS-L2 in Sony Original plastic case that I bought in Japan in 1979/80. I peeked inside and found belt broken. The drive motor has a blackish discharge. To difficult for me to fix. Would this be worth anything in 2022 ?
@@NameName-dx8lb Thanks for your advice. Today I easily picked up the Sony repair manual. My s/nr is 60667 but the manual covers 6 digit s/nrs 1xxxxx and 2xxxxx. For the basic motor drive circuitry motor testing I guess that repair manual will suffice. And, your video gives me confidence ! Barry
You have to get that rust off of that guide pin looking thing where the tape goes around the rubber roller. I saw one that was rusty. That rust is just going to cut into your tape.
Hi. I changed all rubbers in it including the tyres, there was a noise, a low pitch noise but then it cut power. Now no lights no nothing. What could possibly went wrong you think? Thanks in advance
Hi, Do you know the range of impendance of the Earphones for TPS-L 2? Because I bought one without the original earphone, which impedance do you recommend?, I saw the old big ones around 8ohm, but know I´m using the Ipods ones which are around 32ohm. I would like to buy a vintage earphone, do you have any recommendation? Greetings from Buenos Aires, Daniel
I'm sure that in 1980 they didn't know what 1.2V NiMH cells were. Just wondering if it would have better speed & sound if you used standard Alkaline 1.5V cells?
hey man awesome vid what ever happened to that fake walkman you had also I've been subbed since 1000 subscribers or something and I just wanna say you're doing great still
Nice watchable show, jealous that particular model is well above my budget. Where did you purchase that orange/brown tape for securing the wires, I also want to stock up on that :)
Hey! I have a question, I'm repairing myself some things and wanted to ask. How are you taking so many care of everything? Like the Screws and the safety to put everything back in his real state? How..?
Much respect to Sony cramming all that inside a tiny device. I never had any idea how complex a Walkman was inside

@@TheRetroFuture Yep, I can hear both without issue.
I could hear the clash just fine. Made me want to go put on the album as a matter of fact! ;)

Super envious! It's a testament to good design continuity in that it's 40 years old and all you need to power it is 2 Double AA batteries.

Why not get some decal paper to reproduce the markings on the face. Then clear coat the silver piece to protect your work
ok see, clear coating is for cars, this is a walkman, it would probably rub off from being in a pocket or something like that since its made for cars

It good to have a container with little boxes for different screws. Also taking photos before taking apart helps too.
You can get a whiteboard sorting pad where you can label the screws and take a lot of photos
