Funk R&B Rap/Hip Hop were played but not as much as faster more danceable Euro music. It was a great time for music in Chicago at the time. Dance music was really underground and not heard outside Black/Latino/Gay communities. At the same time there was Industrial/Post Punk music released and distributed by Wax Trax Records. That was the other half of Chicago 80's dance music that's not really talked about. I've heard some demo tapes played at Imports Etc Chicago in 1983, and I have a few test pressings by Larry Heard/Mr Fingers that were never available on vinyl outside Chicago mid 80's. If you were anywhere between 13-33 in 1982/83 Gay Latino Black or a Northside alternative post punk kid. You heard the best of all worlds in electronic music before people in other major cities.
