My leg got broken at the dog park and I was in a wheelchair for months. My girl would entice playful dogs away from me and entertained. When I started to walk again, she trained our other 2 dogs to flank me as I navigated the dog park. She took point and left the sides to them. The entire dog park laughed and enjoyed my "crew"! One borzoi, one Leonedes, and one Husky! She was amazingly sensitive to all my situations. Miss her so much and thankful I had her.
I actually think borzois would be perfect for CPTSD and anxiety disorders, definitely more as an ESA, but with the sighthound lean and vigilance, I think they could be good in a public space for creating that barrier, and bringing the owner back to earth in times of stress. Side note: you are the reason I have so much love for borzois 💖 I've been following you for a hot minute on tumblr, then tiktok, and now here! I'm hoping to get two borzois in the near(ish) future 🥰
My girls are wonderfully empathic they know when I’m sad or poorly they wrap themselves around me as close as possible i adore them p.s. i love your dogs x 🇬🇧
awww, that would be lovely for the girls to be therapy dogs! They'd be wonderful, I'm sure!!! Arlo met a neighbour this morning, within 2 minutes he was leaning up against her enjoying the pats...lol.. cheers from Australia!
I have a Borzoi service dog. Yes, the prey drive is an issue but we work with it frequently. He is extremely tuned into me which is beneficial is so many physical and mental ways. He does not weight bare but does offer balance and occasionally pulling. He is literally bomb proof nothing phases him. Four years ago we moved to a town in Mexico where daily events and fireworks and random things happen all the time he loves it. He has traveled all over with me and is a great traveler. He is very polite by nature and loving. Unfortunately he has osteosarcoma so our time together is ending after only six years. If once I recover decide I am ready for another service dog my first choice would be another Borzoi.
Both of my 'Zois are currently in training to become Therapy Dogs through the AKC, and a fair amount of their relatives have already completed their training. My oldest boy's uncle just recently received his THDD (AKC Therapy Dog Distinguished) title. :D If you're looking to get started with them, the AKC has a really awesome page that can help: www.akc.org/sports/title-recognition-program/therapy-dog-program/therapy-dog-organizations/ It's so much fun! Seeing the people (and the dogs) light up when they meet them is the best feeling in the world.
i totally agree with you it’s not their natural instincts to be great listeners. i’m certain with proper training there’s potential for a Borzoi to be a service dog but it would be significantly more training than a traditional service dog breed
Some people need a bigger/taller dog for their needs, Borzoi, GreyHound, Scottish DeerHound, Irish WolfHound, etc. I am absolutely in LOVE with Borzois (and SightHounds in general) SightHounds can be service dogs but it does take a specific dog (like it would with any dog) I currently have a Lurcher (Whippet X Lab) and he is the smartest puppy I’ve ever met.
Thank you! I was definitely thinking more about therapy dogs rather than a traditional service dog due to high anxiety, so this video was very helpful!
I suffer from clinical depression. After adopting my Borzoi, Pandora, I have never been hospitalized. Wa-Hoo!! I took Pandora to a hospice thinking she might comfort a dying man. No way. She refused to even get close to him. But in the waiting room, she is was her normal very loving, friendly self. Any ideas why?
Hi Jacob, I just came from your difference between the sexes video and had a question. I have been planning on getting a borzoi practically half my life now. I have a handful of mental health issues and was wondering if I should reconsider. I initially wanted to train the dog for psychiatric service work. Would that still be an option? You said that the males are more attentive and lively, which is wonderful, but also that they're emotionally sensitive. I'm torn
Borzois are extremely empathetic, and make great emotional support animals - that said, they can be tough to train and require a good deal of effort physically to keep them in top shape, so it depends on what exactly you would need them for in regards to your support. I would recommend trying to meet one - they are a unique presence, and you can garner a lot just by seeing how you feel around them.
I am starting my career as a clinical psychologist next year and would love to involve my future borzoi in my work, or at least have a good reason to bring him/her in with me to the office! Would love to get in touch with someone who has some experience with beeing a full time worker in the field of psychology/therapy and who has found a way to include their dog.

Thank you for this. The search continues but your honest and thoughtfully explaining roadblocks to service work and detour to therapy work was great.
My borzoi helps me SO much with my struggle with ptsd and SPD

My friend had a Borzoi as a mobility and psych service dog and they were a magical pair together.
Great vid :)
This is amazing, I really enjoy your videos ☺️ I hope I can have a Borzoi one day!
I hope you do too!
