I think so too, that's what I purchased over a year ago for our new house we are building. It's called Blue Bahia. The rest of the kitchen will have absolute black on the rest of the counter tops. Oh but there are also some really ugly Blue Bahia so you have to really look around for the beautiful ones.
I'm a 50-year-old straight guy. I built my brand new home and moved in last week. I just found your channel. You are showing me how to keep my house classy. I think you are a genius. Thank you.
Love that you pick up on the differences between american and european design. Would be interesting to highlight differenes in other design areas. For example, no one does panelling on their walls here in germany.
I feel that sink intégration is different in France and the usa. France puts s'inscrit over the counter top while the usa puis them under. I hate clearing behind my sing so much... 😂
Yes, "Posh Pennies" is big on Posh today, but low on pennies. However I can glean a few insights here. Not not many of these examples even look like kitchens, but hotel check ins. I guess that is the trend? These kitchens are outlandishly expensive and nobody watching could begin to afford them. A small under the cabinet wine fridge is bad enough, but those glassed in rooms showcasing a wine collection is just tacky and garish. I would be actually ashamed to have those in my house and wouldn't want to know anybody who had to show off like this.
Finally, a trends 2023 on UA-cam that actually captures the trends. I assume that’s because you also looked at European trends. Being European I do feel that American interior design can be a little „behind“ at times. So, thanks for closing that gap. I was excited to see you mentioned pull out fridges. We just got one in 2022. Plus: no upper cabinets and an induction stove in our kitchen. Love your profound videos!
In most cases, European and Americans just have different tastes. While I can appreciate what both bring to the table, not going to deny that both are also guilty of certain tacky designs lol it all just depends on what you like.
Also, you’re the first UA-camr I’ve seen highlight Skinny Shakers 👏🏻 I noticed that trend really starting to gain momentum late last year and I’m considering for our own kitchen!
I found you late last year and you are my FAVORITE CHANNEL. You are so insightful, knowledgeable and you have your finger on the pulse. I keep checking for a new video every couple of days. I hope you're coming back! I'm a content creator myself on IG (and a tough customer when it comes to design content)... but I just wanted to say I hope you are well, love your work, and hope you return soon!
Hi! Could you please make a video with tips on decorating long and skinny rooms? I find them very common in flats I'm considering buying but I'm afraid I couldn't decorate them well while thinking about functionalities at the same time. I'm mostly thinking about these types of rooms, which are placed vertically when entering from the door (hope that makes sense :D), and have a small window at the end. I would highly appreciate your help with this one :)
Honestly, even design-wise, is it really good to have a kitchen with one color AND texture from head to bottom? All so glossy and shiny? Even the old all white kitchens are much more beautiful
Wow. Great input. I am an appliance designer along with working in the kitchen environment for many years. Very fresh, new to me, visuals and talking points. Great work.
I just painted all my walls Sherwin-Williams accessible beige 7036 it's so light and airy. Beige is the new color if you don't want to go dark. just painted this color over my gray walls. Then I painted my cabinets evergreen fog by Sherwin-Williams. It's so beautiful. And my trim is a natural wood stain color.
This has been my trend for years 😂. I design and decorate according to my taste and likes, and not the trends. Like what is dear to my heart, example: sweet memories when growing up... dark, warm, cozy and moody is what I grew up with. Part of my design takes me back to my grandmother's kitchen in France (dad's side) and my other grandmother's outdoor dark moody kitchen in spain (mother's side). I've mixed both, and I cant tell you how much I love my kitchen and to cook in it. My family/friends rather hang out in the kitchen than any other place in my house 🤔. They love the ambience in my kitchen. And lastly I definitely would NEVER EVER EVER give up my gas stove... you've lost your damn mind. 😂 We have an induction oven and it was horrible, the food doesn't taste the same. That baby was removed and donated after a year of use. This is one trend ibdo not recommend, not if you're a chef at heart.
An induction oven doesn’t exist… unless you mean a stove with an induction hob, but the oven will be electric, not induction ? As someone working in the business, induction is much better on all fronts. That you are used to gas is something else, but quality, precision and speed are much much better on induction and the food tastes exactly the same, it’s about getting used to it and in the mind.
you look even more fabulous than usual, that pink lipstick + silky blue top are both absolutely your colors! all of these trends are pretty exciting + beautiful to me, except for the "no upper cabinetry" trend! maybe i'm just used to apartment/ condo living with smaller kitchens so upper cabinets are a must, or maybe it's unappealing bc I am taller lol... but constantly bending over for EVERYTHING sounds a bit unpleasant; I'm only in my early 30's, but just the thought makes my back sore 😂
Appliance garages have been around for generations. My great grandmother had one that looked very similar to the one you showed. She also had toe kick drawers that held the lids of the pots and pans on shelves in the bottom cupboards.
Yes exactly! I am at the very end of a wildfire rebuild, and my white kitchen was deliberately done to look like a shaker cabinet version of MY grandmother's 1920-30s kitchen, from knobs and pulls to features built in: Toe kick cabinets and appliance garage and pull out corner unit and upper glass door storage and stool seating on one side of an L segment, aged bronze pulls and brass with mother of pearl knobs, wood inside of cabinets, deep drawers, built in sizing dividers for spices etc, pendant lighting... ALL built in the mid 1920s with a few improvements to hardware in the 1930s. Was still original materials going strong in the 1980s with just a few upper cabinet.or wall paint changes over the decades. She had white with black edging counter tiles and daffodil yellow base cabinets, it is an ageless classic. Heck, she even had the woven reed seats and backrest on the stools that are just now becoming all the rage. And looked really good too! Wrap around windows, glass doors cabinets between, exterior door onto covered stoop into her garden... I wish I could afford a gas or wood fired porcelain over cast iron stove and ovens like she had.... She just needed a bigger fridge to fill that space designed in, and slide a dw into half the open center spot used as a prep counter, and it would be a designer dream today.
Low profile kitchens that blend well with open concept living rooms and drawer refrigerators love those. The standard refrigerator style is a big beast to look at. The best kitchen designs: Now you see it, now you don't. Also portable kitchens instead of the big bulky styles I predict will be popular.
@ramona3010 They are EXTREMELY expensive. I love the look of them but you are looking at (at least) 4x the cost of a good quality non integrated appliance.
Gorgeous kitchens! I'm loving the trends. While I would love to redo my kitchen there are some things I can do to refresh and update. Thank you for this video! It's very helpful!
Love the channel!! Please do a show on where to buy inexpensive wall art. I know that you have covered this topic in a past show but I would very much appreciate more detail and specific online art sites that you would recommend.
I’ve been in the middle of a slow-moving house gut remodel and designed it to be as easy to maintain as possible while also trying to maximize functionality and make my short ceilings look more spacious and taller while trying to incorporate as much natural light as possible. In the end the design came out to be very European-like unintentionally. For example I chose a porcelain slab (so much cheaper than marble!) for the backsplash because I hate cleaning grout. I also chose no hardware and flat drawer panels bc too much hardware is distracting in my eyes visually and let’s be real, I just want it easy to clean. I went so far with this whole everything has to be easy to clean that I managed to find a sink that has no seam for the drain hole. I also chose to do no uppers bc looking at the original kitchen with uppers made everything feel like a dark cave. Doesn’t help that the kitchen has northern facing light. We’re also incorporating banquette seating in the peninsula to save space in the dining area because it’s quite small and doesn’t make sense for a centered table. I also chose induction for the range bc.. you guessed it, it’s easy to clean. But also because future proofing! Unfortunately the markup on induction in the US is probably a turn off to most people. Anyways all this to say, I really do think the Europeans (and actually Asian is very similar in design philosophy) have the whole meshing of functionality and ease of lifestyle down to perfection.
Great video! As someone living in Europe, I appreciate that you mentioned the differences. It's actually hard to find a traditional cooking stove in my country, almost everyone is using induction. Same with the cabinetry styles. I love the Swedish brand that you mentioned - we're currently designing our kitchen and we chose off-white minimalistic cabinets with no handles. We're going to combine them with some statement marble - I love calacatta viola, so we're most likely to choose it at the moment. As for the kitchen fixtures, I really wanted to have a pot filler, but they're not popular in our country and our architect was confused 😀 For the island - marble plus some wood panels underneath, Japandi style. I'm not sure what shade of wood we should choose - the floor is light rustic oak, so we're thinking of something similar. Overall we're hoping to achieve a luxurious yet minimalistic kitchen. I loved the "marble garage", something I've never seen before. Now I need to mention it to our architect to see if it's even possible with our cabinetry. Thanks for all the ideas, your videos help us go through the process! 💜
You should totally put in a pot filler!! I redid my bathroom a few years and I wanted a towel warmer. Here in the states those aren’t used very often, but I lived in Europe for awhile and really wanted one. I really had to fight for it as everyone was like why do you need warm towels, insert eye roll here. Needless to say, put in the pot filler!! Redoing my kitchen and I installed one!!!
UA-cam channel "Aly Art" mentioned you. The host of the channel is a make-up aficionado and in one of her videos she said that your facial structure matches Marilyn Monroe's more than any of the actresses who ever played Marilyn and with a little bit of make up and proper contouring, you could look a lot like the real Marilyn. Her video is titled - "Ana De Armas as Marilyn? YES and NOs..." - and in it she mentions you at the 16:53 mark. Just thought I'd share that with you!
I enjoy the expensive dream yet still picked up some tips I could afford in my remodel. Love the decorative storage and garage inspiration!!!! I'm happy to see new warm wood, I love cozy, hate white. I simply never find white makes it in my life cooking every day to have white any where in my house lol.
Thanks for alerting us to the "trends". Personally, I hate hidden appliances, flat cabinets, cabinets without hardware, marble everything and oversized islands. These are things that will make your space look so "2020s" in a few years. I want to know where the fridge is when I walk into a kitchen and I don't want to bother with opening and closing the "appliance garage" when I want to have a piece of toast or make a cup of coffee. When did we move so far away from utilitarianism to the point of having to hide anything functional? Stupid!!!
Never not once in all my years did I walk into my kitchen and think my appliances were "in my face". Plus how do they plan to silence running water? Some trends are so silly!
So basically the trend for 2023 is “if the middle class is battling with inflation and recession, we’ll just focus on the top 1% instead. Here’s a garage for your toaster made from the most expensive marble we could find”
This is all such bullshit…4 microwaves in that one wall??? These videos are either - got a million to spend on your kitchen remodel? -or - how to revitalize your appliances using spray paint. Useless.
I was thinking I would never be getting any of these trends. Not because I don't like them but there is no way I could financially put any of them into my home. You nailed it...definitely out of touch for the remainder of us.
@@janetpelletier1238 Yeah most of them are gorgeous but at least half of them look crazy expensive. I would love for Posh Pennies to make a video about affordable alternatives! 😊
I’ve heard induction ranges are not the best quality, even very expensive brands. My friend had her new induction range broke in 4 months and she was waiting 6 months for replacement part.
Hehe my fisher paykel gas range arrived with not one but TWO broken parts and has needed fixing 3 times since we got it 6 months ago 🙃 we also needed to wait months for the parts. sometimes it's just bad luck 🤷🏼♀️
You are limited by the pots you can use on conduction cooktops. I used to have one but do not plan to own another one. I love to use some cast iron pans and a few pans but they are not recommended to be used on conduction cooktops. If you enjoy canning with a heavy canner you should not use it on any glass top stove as it could break the glass.
@@gereesorrow380 cast iron pots are recommended for induction and I use them daily !! Excellent method of cooking , Europeans have used them for decades
Haha thanks! First I put on fall4u by basic beauty and blotted it off so it just left my lips stained. Then i layered nyx butter lipstick in bls07 hubba bubba waouh on top! 👄
😬 The heavily veined marble is going to be soooo out of style again! We had a bathroom with walls with veining like that, and I hated it so incredibly much. I like the style @4:07 - that's a well balanced high-contrast marble. When it's used everywhere, it's a "no" from me Blue marble is another ine that's definitely geoing to be one of those things to replace in a decade. Deep green, grey in different tones, white are all classics, but red and blue are those things people tend to get really tired of
Agreed. Not to mention that marble is a high maintenance surface prone to stains. Maybe it’s great if you don’t cook? No way would I use it for a kitchen counter. Plus the marbles featured in the video are so busy-looking, ugh.
I'm all on board for the espresso and dark cherry cabinets. I can't get behind the medium walnut. It reminds me too much of the cheap partical board furniture from the 90s. Those walnut slab cabinets were in my grandparents dusty old camper in the 90s. It looks cheap and now it's high end. Make it make sense.
Induction stoves seem little more than a tech fad. I'd need to replace 2/3rds of my cooking vessels. Induction stoves/hobs don't work with glass, solid ceramic, copper, nor a lot of my best stainless steel cookware. Several things I make regularly are best made in glass, ceramic, or copper. I can't afford to rebuy 2/3 of the cookware I've been slowly collecting since I was 17. Nor would I want to, since many of them are gifts or inherited from family. It's not very eco friendly either. Induction stoves don't seem to work that much better than a decently robust electric stove. I f I had the money and space for an second 4 burner cooktop in my kitchen, I *might* get a induction one. Maybe.
Those ultra veined marble surfaces look too busy and not that pretty which in turn makes a space look cluttery even when everything’s put away. Some of these new styles that the uber wealthy go for don’t make them luxurious or fancy at all in fact they do the opposite and make the space look obnoxious, gaudy or ostentatious.
So glad to see that Shaker style won't be going anywhere anytime soon. I think a kitchen should reflect the style and age of the home. I live in a Craftsman Farmhouse, so sleek modern cabinets are going to look strange with all the wood detail a craftsman offers.
Hi! I'm furnishing a new apartment while not living there yet. I really tried sticking to a colour scheme and doing things right. However... I think I might have too much dark brown furniture now for a small space and a huge heavily patterened rug without the budget to reverse what I've done. I'm afraid the rooms now will look really cluttered, dark and stressful😅 while I wanted a nice, cosy and light feeling to my new home. Does anyone know some trouble shooting to solve this without costing too much? I would be so grateful!! 💛
I would suggest looking at the colours in the rug and using some decor to tie it all together but keep it minimal without too many patterns. Mood lighting will be a big one as well, maybe opt for a couple of lamps, this will give a more cosy effect. Your space may not feel light but it will definitely feel cosy and if you choose colours that you feel restful in thats all that matters. If you want I can give you some additional pointers on insta? Im an interior designer by trade and more than happy to help! Good luck! ☺
The wood tones like in the 80’s? I’m all for pullout drawers, pot fillers, deep one bowl sink=yea, yet modern nope. That’s why there are diff strokes for diff folks.
Great video! Always love your content. Building an investment property this year; we’re planning to incorporate a few of these trends for that new kitchen ☺️
From what I can see, every one of these "trends" is for people who like to show the kitchen, not the food that comes out of it. To me, it is very bad design when function is reduced by form. As Noel Coward said, "A triumph of never mind over doesn't matter".
I love my kitchen appliances that's what makes a kitchen a kitchen and integrating them like pieces of furniture is so bland and boring. What makes a home is distinctive home areas, interesting and homey is divine, but, living in a spaceship isn't
Just got a house & kitchen will be completely redone... except tile my husband loves and I hate! What would cost a few hundred to change the floor, now will cost thousands to save his precious tile 🤔
It’s so annoying my kitchen was built in 1990 and it looks so OLD. I want to re do it all so badly but it’s gonna run me 30-80k depending on what I do. Just the cabinets alone were 30 😩
That's what I thought about this pretty kitchen with the oil painting in the ornate frame behind the cooktop. You don't need upper cabinets if you never cook.
Integrated appliances finally seriously! They’ve been around in Europe for almost 30 years, sure enough time to break through for the US audience (with x10 price tag of course)
IMO Warming things up in the white kitchens with more natural touches of wood colors seems so nice to me. Also shaker style cabinets I feel is a good balance. The modern contemporary flat panel cabinets with all white everything is too much. So sterile looking, no interest at all. That Swedish Nordiska company’s kitchens look like medical laboratories to me. Yuk
Thank you for speaking calmly. Some of the other interior designers talk too much, too fast and don't breathe which causes me anxiety.
Great channel 👍
Love that you reference both euro and American design preferences!
Those wine storage examples were way over the top!! Wowza.
That blue marble is honestly the most stunning stone I've ever seen!! Absolutely beautiful.
I think so too, that's what I purchased over a year ago for our new house we are building. It's called Blue Bahia. The rest of the kitchen will have absolute black on the rest of the counter tops. Wohoooooooo!
Thanks dear
❤ from Melbourne
Eroupean style kitchen feels cold and unappetizing. I doubt it will gain popularity in North America
beautiful !
This what I have in mind for my kitchen update unfortunately budget is very limited. Any ideas how I can get this done on low budget?
Don’t get the wine storage trend as most people now drink so much less. Some lovely ideas here. I’d love to be bold with worktops and colours. 🙏
many thanks
would be nice to see solutions for small apartments
Those kitchens are in today, out tomorrow. Give me white washed cabinets, Formica countertops and avocado appliances. Welcome back 1973.!
Beautiful
Doesn’t it get dirty under Toe kick drawers? I like to wash my kitchen often as we cook a lot.
I like a kitchen looking like a kitchen.
Thank you veey informative
So basically the trend for 2023 is “if the middle class is battling with inflation and recession, we’ll just focus on the top 1% instead. Here’s a garage for your toaster made from the most expensive marble we could find”
Great point, bring that expensive marble on! And in reality, it is actually ugly. 😂
Lol, I was wondering how many people watching this have kitchens big enough for 2 islands in the design shown
This is all such bullshit…4 microwaves in that one wall???
Mine has been great ! Love it never get another kind
@@gereesorrow380 you may have had an old type induction
I'm broke but would like to hand a nicely decorated home.... can you talk lighting!! Lighting video please!
Never painting my Knotty alder ever!!!!
I like the 20 year old white cabinets better.
Ok. Can😂we please know what your beautiful lipstick is that you’re wearing ?
Haha thanks! First I put on fall4u by basic beauty and blotted it off so it just left my lips stained. Then i layered nyx butter lipstick in bls07 hubba bubba waouh on top! 👄
Gorgeous kitchen going to paint my cabinets and countertops?
Great video
😬 The heavily veined marble is going to be soooo out of style again! We had a bathroom with walls with veining like that, and I hated it so incredibly much. I like the style @4:07 - that's a well balanced high-contrast marble. When it's used everywhere, it's a "no" from me
Blue marble is another ine that's definitely geoing to be one of those things to replace in a decade. Deep green, grey in different tones, white are all classics, but red and blue are those things people tend to get really tired of
Agreed. Not to mention that marble is a high maintenance surface prone to stains. Maybe it’s great if you don’t cook? No way would I use it for a kitchen counter. Plus the marbles featured in the video are so busy-looking, ugh.
you should do a home tour
I'm all on board for the espresso and dark cherry cabinets. I can't get behind the medium walnut. It reminds me too much of the cheap partical board furniture from the 90s. Those walnut slab cabinets were in my grandparents dusty old camper in the 90s. It looks cheap and now it's high end. Make it make sense.
My guess is your grandparents camper had some sort of cheap wood that was stained a walnut color: not actual walnut.
@@wallihaley5194 walnut looking particle board, which is what all these "high end" slab walnut cabinets look exactly like.
Maybe.
Is metallic brushed aluminum tile for kitchen backsplash a dead trend?
I grew up in a home filled with dark wood paneling. *triggered* 😄
Those ultra veined marble surfaces look too busy and not that pretty which in turn makes a space look cluttery even when everything’s put away. Some of these new styles that the uber wealthy go for
don’t make them luxurious or fancy at all in fact they do the opposite and make the space look obnoxious, gaudy or ostentatious.
So glad to see that Shaker style won't be going anywhere anytime soon. I think a kitchen should reflect the style and age of the home. I live in a Craftsman Farmhouse, so sleek modern cabinets are going to look strange with all the wood detail a craftsman offers.
Why don’t we just have the kitchen we love another what we are told to love?
I'm trying to figure out how to add task lighting when there are no upper cabinets... ideas?
In Australia we call them downlights - I think USA may call them can lights 🤔. They are recessed, meaning they sit flat with ceiling.
in a year or 2 i will be ownin allis omm
Good luck! ☺
Nice
The wood tones like in the 80’s? I’m all for pullout drawers, pot fillers, deep one bowl sink=yea, yet modern nope. That’s why there are diff strokes for diff folks.
Fine
1:23 😭😭😭🤣🤣🤣💯💯💯
Induction stovetops require special cookware which can easily cost a thousand dollars.
There is a risk of induction appliances interfering with tooth implants, pacemaker etc.
Only way to keep wine is in the old dusty cellar in provincial France.
Was he on a bender when he said that? 😅
I love my kitchen appliances that's what makes a kitchen a kitchen and integrating them like pieces of furniture is so bland and boring.
What makes a home is distinctive home areas, interesting and homey is divine, but, living in a spaceship isn't
I get anxiety looking at those marble countertops and back splashes.
Please make 2024 kitchen trend
Just got a house & kitchen will be completely redone... except tile my husband loves and I hate! What would cost a few hundred to change the floor, now will cost thousands to save his precious tile 🤔
It’s so annoying my kitchen was built in 1990 and it looks so OLD. I want to re do it all so badly but it’s gonna run me 30-80k depending on what I do. Just the cabinets alone were 30 😩
Kitchens for wealthy who don’t cook.
That's what I thought about this pretty kitchen with the oil painting in the ornate frame behind the cooktop. You don't need upper cabinets if you never cook.
@@Coromi1 To be fair, I’m sure some cook, and there are a few ideas to consider. Just maybe not acres of marble.
The integrated trend makes your kitchen look so cold. Its like living on a space station.
Integrated appliances finally seriously! They’ve been around in Europe for almost 30 years, sure enough time to break through for the US audience (with x10 price tag of course)
White or light gray cabinets - that's our current dilemma.
Yuk
