New Subscriber. Love your chatty style. 60 years experience knitting. ADVICE: if you want to use a different yarn than the pattern suggests, have a good long chat with your local yarn store. They should be able to help you choose something suitable. They don't just sell product, they are full of information. Unfortunately this does not always work with the big stores, as they tend to employ people just for the 'hands on deck' kind of thing. Also, many yarn stores host knitting/crochet groups and these are a great place to meet up with others who enjoy the craft and have varying degrees of experience. When you choose a size to make, be sure to check the 'finished garment measurements' so it should fit. Personally, I don't understand the really oversize trend in so many garments, but then I don't want tight fitting either. Oh well. Your finish is lovely and your colour choices delightful

Wow!! What a beautiful selection of garments. I can't believe that you are a first time knitter. First, you seem to be able to read and follow the instructions incredibly well. I have taught knitting. I worked in a yarn shop and helped numerous people with projects. So, Touché! The only suggestion that I have regards lanolin and itchy wools. A lot of people from the UK or other various European countries find the wools that we have in the Americas itchy. When our wools are processed they are stripped of much of their natural properties and then they are bleached or dyed which adds to the dry itchiness. Some of the dyes used to dye the yarn can also be irritating. That is why a lot of people lanolize their yarn and/or knit garments. The manger where I worked told me about this and how to add lanolin. It doesn't take much: 1/2 tsp lanolin melted in a cup of water. I found some good instructions on the internet, I will try to add one but I don't know if it will work in a "Comment." Also use a lanolin soap to wash my knits. Here's an article from ParadiseFibers.com with instructions for lanolizing yarn: Lanolin- the wonder wax! The wax that sheep naturally produce to protect their wool and skin from the harsh elements. Lanolin also prevents bacteria invasions keeping the sheep and wool happy! Lanolin is important to keep the wool moisture capabilities in tact to prevent fungal growth protecting the sheep and wool over time. The performance of your wool garments will benefit from lanolizing. The commercial processing, spinning, and dyeing of wool strips it of its hard earned lanolin. Super wash wool goes through even harsher chemical treatments that leave the wool dry and lifeless. Luckily for us, we can re lanolize our wool to breathe life back into the fiber! Regular lanolizing after washing will keep your wool yarn and garments lasting for lifetimes! You can lanolize your wool before you spin to spin “In The Grease” or after being spun to give your yarn back it’s natural bacteria fighting power! We suggest this simple method for washing and lanolizing your wool and wool-blends using our Unicorn Fiber Wash and 100% Pure Lanolin: Things you’ll need: Soap, lukewarm water, basin or sink that is big enough to submerge your entire garment, unspun fiber, or yarn; and wool in need of refreshing, cleaning, and/or lanolizing. Step 1: Mix 1/2 tablespoon of Lanolin with 1 cup hot water. Stir until lanolin melts and dissolves completely. Set aside. Step 2: Fill an appropriately sized washbasin with enough lukewarm water to cover your garment/wool. As you fill your basin, pour 1-2 capfuls of Unicorn Fiber Wash into the water. Use more for larger basins and larger garments/amounts of wool. Water should cover garment/wool, but no need to fill the basin. For worn garments you may need to repeat this step until the water clears before you add lanolin. For unspun fiber or freshly spun yarn add your lanolin mixture into your basin mixture and stir before you add your wool. Step 3: Submerge your garment/wool in the basin and give it a gentle squeeze and swish or two. This will help clean the yarn and allow the fibers to take the lanolin in. Do not agitate too much - keep it gentle! Step 4: If the water clears, your garment is probably still “thirsty” for more lanolin. Add another teaspoon or two of melted lanolin at your discretion. Careful not to pour the lanolin directly onto the wool to prevent lanolin spots. Soak 5-15 minutes. Step 5: Lightly rinse if there is significant dirt/grease/grime in the water from your garment/wool. Take your garment/wool out of the tub, dump the remaining water, and add fresh water. Submerge the garment again and then remove. Do not wring out or twist your piece/wool. Gently squeeze out excess water. Lay your garment flat on a towel, and roll the towel up firmly to blot out excess water. Unroll the towel and wet-block your garment to desired measurements. If treating unspun wool, lay your wool out to dry before spinning. When dry, squish the garment/wool in your hands, bring it up to your nose and face, and take in the loveliness of your clean, refreshed, softened garment/wool. - from paradisefibers.com

Ahhhhh to be very honest with you the magic loop still scares me 😅 but DPNS are my best friend now!! They’re so lovely to use once you get used to them! And the Sophie shawl is a great beginner project! So easy to wear with any outfit too ☺️

What a successful knitting year; you were definitely fearless and all your knits were beautiful. It's a shame you are sensitive to the yarn. Maybe consider buying a ball of Knitting for Olive Baby Merino or any other brand held with Isager alpaca 1(this can be your mohair substitute). Knit a 4" swatch and after blocking, hold against your neck or chest and leave it for an hour or so to see how itchy it is. This will help you find yarn blends that will work without having to knit an entire garment. The way you store the yarn used on a project is brilliant. Congratulations on your knits and I can't wait to see what you knit in 2024.

Hi!! Well done for your knits ! I can only recommend you Malabrigo! I have a very sensitive skin also and cannot handle mohair or alpaca. Malabrigo sock or Rios is perfect to wear directly on skin for me And also dererum natura Ulysse for example is a dry yarn not very soft but not itchy at all !! Thanks for your reviews 😄

I am very sensitive to wool too. I can’t even wear a store bought sweater with 5% wool in it! I also find linen itchy. It’s super sad because I love knitting. Right now I am using a cotton yarn which satisfies my urge to knit but doesn’t feel as good on the needles as wool. I have been researching non-itchy natural fibres and think I may be able to wear fine merino with a higher micron count like Falkland Island wool. Of course I can wear cashmere but that doesn’t help much because I can’t afford to spend $800 on 1 sweater. LOL I will let you know what works out in my search for non-itchy fibres! Also, I love your dive in and knit whatever you want attitude! Your knits are beautiful! 😊

I’ve been trying out this affordable Chinese cashmere (blend?) yarn which feels super smooth (no itch at all), I’m holding it together with Babyull to knit the Salty Days Sweater. I will update on its itchiness/pilling once I’m done knitting it!! Andddd thank you for your kind comment!! 💕
Try some cotton/viscose, cotton/silk blends to have a less heavy, better draping garment. Also, if you happen to use wood needles, try metal, I feel like I need to use more hand strength when I use wood needles.
Petite knit patterns always run large for me. So unless there’s negative ease like on the Stockholm slipover, I need to downsize. But I’m not a person who like 13” of positive ease. Your agents cardigan looks perfect. I think it looks very good on you. I don’t think it would look that good so oversized. And if you remake it skip the mohair. It won’t really change your gauge. It is very odd that heavy merino would make you itch, because merino is a no itch yarn. You must be ultra sensitive to wool. I can wear all of the yarns you mention as well as rustic wool and have no problem. Sorry I keep editing my comment…. But I just found you for the first time and I’m very impressed by your knitting . I haven’t even attempted brioche! But the only reason I haven’t is because it is slow. Same with fisherman’s rib.

I really enjoyed your video! I can't help but feel disappointed for you that the majority of these FOs are too uncomfortable to wear on your skin. Is it possible that you have an allergy? I use strictly non-animal fiber based yarns and this really eliminates any possibility of scratchiness. Might be worth it for you to look up what kinds of wool yarns other people with very sensitive skin use. Also I wonder if there is maybe a wool softener wash that reduces some of the itchiness? Just some ideas! Your work is beautiful, please keep sharing your makes!
Hey :) how tall are you? Currently knitting on my agnete and im an xs according to the size chart but for everyone who knit the agnete it seems to come out much smaller than the one in her picture so I don’t know if I should frog it now ans soze up (I just joined for the body and put it on, it seems a little small but it might be fine when blocking) All my measurements and gauge also match the pattern
hii I'm 5'3"! would you know if your yarn stretches after blocking? If so then maybe it'll be okk! my cardigan never exactly met gauge or the suggested measurement that Petiteknit had on the pattern for each section. so it's a good sign that yours actually meets it! But if you are considering redoing it, instead of frogging it right away, maybe you could try knitting the yoke in size s with the other balls of yarn you have, that way you can compare the yokes between the 2 sizes to see which one you like more? not sure if that's good advice haha 😅
This whole right leg in front left leg in the back thing isn't exactly true. I knit combination style and my stitches are mixed. If my left leg is in front I just do my stitch a little differently and it will untwist.
That was my thought as well. You could maybe try yarns with a lower wool content. Maybe try a cotton/merino blend? Those tend to be very soft and have great drape and stitch definition. Interestingly, my hands flare up whenever I work with 100% non-superwash wool yarns. I'm thinking it might be the lanolin in it. However, I have no trouble wearing the garments. It's weird. Also, there are some great acrylic yarns out there! I know, it's not the same as natural fibers, BUT if you're allergic, they are a great alternative. HAPPY NEW YEAR! @@CNDVL

I really enjoyed your video! I can't help but feel disappointed for you that the majority of these FOs are too uncomfortable to wear on your skin. Is it possible that you have an allergy? I use strictly non-animal fiber based yarns and this really eliminates any possibility of scratchiness. Might be worth it for you to look up what kinds of wool yarns other people with very sensitive skin use. Also I wonder if there is maybe a wool softener wash that reduces some of the itchiness? Just some ideas! Your work is beautiful, please keep sharing your makes!

Hey :) how tall are you? Currently knitting on my agnete and im an xs according to the size chart but for everyone who knit the agnete it seems to come out much smaller than the one in her picture so I don’t know if I should frog it now ans soze up (I just joined for the body and put it on, it seems a little small but it might be fine when blocking) All my measurements and gauge also match the pattern
hii I'm 5'3"! would you know if your yarn stretches after blocking? If so then maybe it'll be okk! my cardigan never exactly met gauge or the suggested measurement that Petiteknit had on the pattern for each section. so it's a good sign that yours actually meets it! But if you are considering redoing it, instead of frogging it right away, maybe you could try knitting the yoke in size s with the other balls of yarn you have, that way you can compare the yokes between the 2 sizes to see which one you like more? not sure if that's good advice haha 😅
This whole right leg in front left leg in the back thing isn't exactly true. I knit combination style and my stitches are mixed. If my left leg is in front I just do my stitch a little differently and it will untwist.

I think you might be right 😭 I considered this possibility too when my nose started running while knitting the cumulus blouse 🫠
That was my thought as well. You could maybe try yarns with a lower wool content. Maybe try a cotton/merino blend? Those tend to be very soft and have great drape and stitch definition. Interestingly, my hands flare up whenever I work with 100% non-superwash wool yarns. I'm thinking it might be the lanolin in it. However, I have no trouble wearing the garments. It's weird.
Also, there are some great acrylic yarns out there! I know, it's not the same as natural fibers, BUT if you're allergic, they are a great alternative.
