This should be illegal how good it is! I will steal this for my projects if you don't mind :D
Enjoy. I share with the whole world, for this I posted this video)))
@@baronvonclay Thank you! Be free to check my builds, maybe there is something that will help you out in the future 😄
Thanks!
It's a genius method!
Got a new sub for this vid. Australian Narrow Gauge modeller, Ferns are everywhere here, from tiny ones to Bracken to Tree Fern sizes.
Omg its new method, thanks for your tutorial ❤️🔥
I cannot believe what I am seeing !!! Truly beautiful. Thank you for sharing. (Australia)❤
Glad you liked it))
Brilliant idea... 👏 👏
Give this man some fame, he deserves it
Thank's!)))
INCREDIBLE, so impressed! I can't wait to try this! Thank you for sharing it with us
Thanks))
what genius, much cheaper than photoetching 🤩👍👍👍
Ty!
Wow..great technique 👍🏼🎨thank u so much👏🙏
That is SO cool! Thanks for sharing. Never seen it done this way before.
Thanks!))
Simply wow! I've watched a ton of videos regarding diorama vegetation and was coming to the conclusion that it was either a Cricut or commercially printed items (both a path to bankruptcy!) but your technique blew me away. Credit also for you replying to every question!
I shall look forward to looking at your other videos.
Thanks a lot!
Wow, i haved no idea how these things was maded
That's just awesome! 👍
Thanks!
fabulous!

Stunning. TY so much for sharing
Amazing! Thanks for sharing this! Truly inspiring
Outstanding!! 💚👍
I was looking for inspiration and material options to make ferns in my projects, thanks for being creative!
Thanks. I made these, turned out good.
oooohh my god!! you are a master in this art! not in a million years i could have this idea
Thank you))))
One of these days Im going to build a carboniferous diorama to go along with my fossil specimens. This was really inspiring! Thank you!
Thank you. I hope everything works out for you. Use PVA wood glue, it's better. And write how you did it.
@@baronvonclay ooo thank you for the tip!
Holy crap....That's fantastic...

Magnifica idea...
Thanks!)))
God bless you for sharing
Thx!
I cannot tell you how much I absolutely LOVE you for uploading this method! 💖
I was really depressed since my budged doesn't allow for buying ferns and most look really too out of place anyway in a diorama since they are from thick material. It's depressing since I really adore ferns and the areas of nature that sport them so frequently.
So, THANK YOU SO MUCH for showing me a way that does make it possible without costing lots of money and without them looking weird! 🥰
This makes one of my projects crawl all the way to the top of my to-do list now. I'm looking forward to using this method~. ^^
Thank you. I also don't like the look of store bought ferns or the common do-it-yourself methods. Three months of experiments and this method was born. The main thing is to use PVA wood glue.
@@baronvonclay Desperation breeds the most impressive ideas, as per usual~. I'm so glad you tested things out and shared it with us all to make dioramas all over the world more realistic with this new method. This german potato here is very greatful for that.
Write then it turned out to make a fern or not.
😉👍🙋♀️ cool

You're welcome

Thanks a lot! This was just the video i needed. I couldn't make it work the first time (though i just grabbed the first wood glue that got into my hand...so it is not necessarily PVA, and i might have put a bit too much gypsum in it... :D), but i'll definietly keep trying, cuz this looks simple and great.
Tnx. I chose from what was at hand. Stationery PVA was not suitable, but carpentry PVA turned out to be what was needed. You need enough plaster so that the resulting product does not sag. If you add too much, the vegetation will become too fragile.
@@baronvonclay 3rd time's the charm, it seems. Their consistency is fine now, but i have to work on their look quite a bit :D
Glad to hear that. Now I’m finishing a new diorama, there will be an interesting type of plants.
magnifica idea de como hacer plantas, los polvos que le echas a la mezcla ¿Qué es?
That's amazing! How do you make leaves in ground? The same method?
In this video: ua-cam.com/video/7dMhIAmi2U4/v-deo.html
😮
Realy cool. How long is the "workable" time with rhe gipsum?
The fern hasn't changed in a year.
Absolutely awesome. Can you use Plaster of Paris instead?
Yes. Google translator failed me, so I used plaster
Great video. This technique looks fantastic. My question is, don't the gypsum fern leaves break when handling them
Thank you. If you add a lot of gypsum, they break. Balance is important here.
@@baronvonclay Great. It should be a matter of trial and error then. Thank you very much for responding. Regards.
do you have any substitute for the Gypsum? would something like Plaster of Paris work? or is there a common kitchen ingredient that could work? I am just curious, Thank you!
Plaster will definitely work. You can experiment with everything else yourself.
Wow, I'm so glad I saw this before i went to figure it out myself - I was going to try to print and cut paper and thicken it with UV resin, but this is a cut above!
Would you say that this is about a 1:1:1 by volume paint:PVA:plaster?
Im a carpenter when Im not making models, and that doesnt look like carpentry glue - which is typically yellow. What brand did you use, out of interest.
Thank you so much for sharing...!
Henkel super PVA glue.
The ratio is not 1:1:1. This will make it too fragile. I always make an approximate mixture based on the overall viscosity. The point is simple. The more glue, the stronger it is. The more paint, the more flexible (the main thing is to give the desired color, it changes a little when it dries). The more plaster, the better it retains its shape (does not sag), but it can become brittle. It also loses its gloss from plaster. It all depends on what I want to do.
I recommend using a silicone mat, it’s more comfortable.
Truly a fantastic method! How long does it take to dry?
Thanks. I leave it to dry for 24 hours. For very small parts, 2 hours is enough.
@@baronvonclayawesome! Thanks 😀
absolutely amazing, but how thick is the wire you use?
Thank you. The thickness depends on the scale and visual perception. Now I'm making a diorama using wire from a spool of burnt out LED lamp.
Pertect ❤
Thanks!
hey, how did you make the leaves? i love that diorama 😍
Find a video on my channel about Nanotyrannus, where I make these leaves.
I am just watching this video now, this is a wonderful technique! Pardon my ignorance, when you say to add gypsum, do you mean plaster of Paris or just straight gypsum powder?
Gypsum and plaster will do. It is important to use wood glue PVA.
Thanks!
@@baronvonclay
would this work with mica powder as well or just gypsum?
I think it might work. Experiment with a small amount.
what kind of wire do you use? regular florist wire? awsome outcome have to try and make palm tree
I use any wire that fits the scale. I found the smallest wire in a wire spool (transformer) from LED light bulbs.
@@baronvonclay btw instead of adhesive tape you can use baking paper :) its siliconed so pva dont stick to it
I know))) I had none of this that night. In the Triceratops video I use a silicone mat. This is the most convenient so far.
does this last? like this looks great but it looks very fragile so, does it stay like that for 2 years+?
I think yes. Over the past 1 year, no changes.
Sorry but can I do it without gypsum too, because I tried with gypsum vinavil and acrilic paint but it dosn't work.
And how long do you left the ferns to dry?.
Thanks.
Hi. You can experiment however you like. Without gypsum, the leaves sag over time. Here the main component is carpentry (it is much stronger) PVA glue.
Could I substitute baking soda or alum for gypsum?
Soda doesn't really work. You can experiment.
can you use some thing other than gypsum? I'm allergic to sulfur.
Try the different options available to you.
This looks incredible, but I think it looks like it's too delicate and wouldn't hold up very well on a mini base for war gaming. Or is it sturdier than it looks?
Thank you. Of course, this is not suitable for war gaming.
Well I didn't use gypsum and I cant get the paint of the tape, trying to painstakingly cutting it out.. but on the bright side its not going to tear apart easily.
Can you replace Gypsum with plaster powder?
It is the same. Google translator failed at that moment. I use sculpting plaster.
Can make leaves too with it ?
Certainly! You can make them in any shape.
Two questions (1) Where can you get gypsum and why is it needed? (2) How long do you let the pain dry before you pull it off the plastic?
1. I buy plaster at a hobby market. Gypsum allows the dried paint and glue to retain its shape. But it also makes her fragile. Therefore, find a ratio that is convenient for you. 2. Let it dry for 24 hours. You can remove it after 2-3 hours, but it is better to let it dry completely.
@@baronvonclay Thanks. Yes, that makes sense about the paint. Now I am excited to start making ferns that actually LOOK like ferns. Thanks.
I hope everything works out for you
@@baronvonclay Thanks.
I do very fine work and truly thank you for your generous technique. I will work at it till resembles yours. That will be hard to beat. A try artist U R.
One question, I'm using matte acrylic paint, PVA glue and Gesso, but it's getting a little thick, not to mention the wire keeps coming loose and moving, do you secure the wire with tape? Do you add a little water to dilute it?
I can't do it, is there an ideal proportion of paint/glue and gypsum?
Anyway, thank you very much for the tip, I'll try more often!
The proportions depend on what I want to achieve. There should be more glue. Plaster is needed to hold the shape. Without the plaster, the leaves will droop. Sometimes this is useful, then I add a little plaster. If you add a lot of gypsum, the leaves will become brittle. If the mixture is too thick, add water. But not too liquid. The wire must be painted in advance, this way the mixture sticks better. Good luck with your experiments.
@@baronvonclay Looking at your video, the paint has a certain fluidity when you paint, it looks like it's at the point of milk, almost dripping from the tip of the brush, this looks like water added to the mixture you used in the video, because if I mix just paint, glue and plaster doesn't have that consistency.
I can't find this consistency, viscosity, fluidity of the paint on the brush. But I'll test it a few more times, thanks
The consistency is still thicker than milk, but I added water. As for the wire, I didn’t fasten it, I’m used to painting it carefully. The liquid consistency will help with this. But sometimes I make a couple of leaves at different ends of the wire, and when they dry, I make the remaining leaves. I will release another video in the summer improving this method.
@@baronvonclay Thank you, that would be great, it will help me a lot, I really need to learn realistic plants like this, you have done an excellent job so far, thank you for your attention and tips, it helped me a lot.
Hi there may i know what type of gypsum is this? When i seach theres 2 types food grade and for construction purposes. Or are they the same?
Gypsum for creativity, or gypsum sculptural
@@baronvonclay thank you
@@baronvonclay can I replace it with plaster of paris?
I think you can replace it with any similar substance.
@@baronvonclay but may I know what is the purpose of you adding the gypsum?
Hello! Can you please tell me what is that yellow block made of?
Hello. This is foamed polystyrene. But it is better to use a silicone mat.
Thank you so much for replying ❤️ very useful tutorial.
Yw
Can we use fevicol instead of pva glue
I've never tried it. You can try and write what you get.
Any substitute for gypsum?
You can try plaster. Don't be afraid to experiment.
where did you get that thin wire? 😮
I bought wire from a hobby store
How long does it need to dry?
At least 4 hours. But I usually leave it for a day.
Are there going to be dinosaurs in your diorama!
Certainly. This fern is already in the diorama:
ua-cam.com/video/7dMhIAmi2U4/v-deo.html
a very cool way to do it but i would need to make like 100 of these so will be to much work for me xd
So far I have been experimenting in search of this method and have done at least 100)))) In the next video I will show a method that is more convenient and faster.
Que le ponen que es eso!? :O
What's GYPSUM?
GESSO... sorry...
Plaster, gyps, parget
What is 'gypsum'?
Plaster
@@baronvonclay - Ahhh! That makes sense due to the glue having water in it. What type of acrylic do you use? Just cheap poster paint?
Cheap art paint. Plaster is needed to hold the shape
Make a video on dinosaur environment classification
I don't understand what you mean
@@baronvonclay different dinosaur have different biomes and environments such as , Redwood , tropical forest , rocky ressian , tiaga , plains etc . Make a video on how to create different diverce environments
Sorry but not soon
@@baronvonclay if you die in this moment then who will make this video
I hope I don't die soon😁
I have never done dioramas before. Just sculpted. I do everything with an eye on others. If I discovered something new, I immediately share this method of creating vegetation. I didn’t like how finished plants from various companies looked, so I had to look for my own way for a long time. So this method was discovered with PVA, paint and plaster. Nothing new, I can not give you yet. Everything is on youtube.
