since you asked for a backstory: seventeen actually have very humble beginnings. since they aren't from the big 3 (sm yg jyp) they struggled a lot more than you think
(btw i'm not saying privileged groups can't or don't struggle! bc they very much can and do. the industry is already very harsh as it is. but once they debut under a big company name, they don't have to worry about putting in extra effort for a chance to gain recognition and relevance or reach decent success)
anyways seventeen literally did everything themselves from writing producing and choreographing. definition of a self-made group. they did it all. they actually filmed a program predebut (17tv) practicing, doing skits, js having fun, tons of different things but we joke about it since lots of questionable things happened in those videos

Seventeen is made up of 13 members and they are divided into 3 units (vocal, performance and hip-hop unit) but don’t be deceived by their units because every member in seventeen is an all-rounder (they can all sing, dance and rap amazingly). They are well known cos of their outstanding performances and synchronization while dancing and their amazing vocals. The vocal guy you mentioned is Hoshi by name and he’s the performance team leader and a vocalist of the group while the red-haired guy is called The8 (he’s in the performance unit and he’s got amazing vocals too). The performance team members vocals are top-tier and could be main/lead vocalists in any other group.

Now the two members u asked about. The red head, his stage name is The 8, just The 8, or u can call him. Minghao. He is one of two members from China.
The second is Hoshi. Hoshi is the actual choreographer for the group. And than there is Woozi, the shortest member, he is the main songwriter as well as head producer for the group...their company didn't really help them all that much in the beginning, so they did most of it themselves.
The vocal guy name is hoshi and the red head name is The8 there both in the performance unit, both really great dancers. Th8 is my bias and he’s performances are always great.

so about seventeen, there was originally supposed to be 17 members before they debuted, so thats why they named them seventeen. but 4 members left due to patience running out of actually debuting. so now the use the cover up of 13 members + 3 units + 1 team! the guy in the middle was hoshi, he matches the tiger energy so you could easily tell the difference between him and the others. the red guy was the8, and he b-boys, and is pretty flexible.

Seventeen has three leaders Hoshi (light blondish hair): leader of the dance group, Woozi (yellow hair, short): leader of the vocal group, Vernon (pink or black hair): leader of the rap group.
