French dubbing - Pilate's Dream - Jesus Christ Superstar

Michel Zacha dubs the role of Pontius Pilate (portrayed by Barry Dennen) in the official movie dubbing. He was involved in the first French stage production in 1972, so with the rest of the cast he reprised the given roles in the film version.

I don't get dubbing. Why would you wanna listen to that? Because it's too hard to read subtitles? I mean, I get dubbing for children, but for adults who are totally capable of reading..? Maybe I will never understand because I grew up in a country that only dubs for children (the Netherlands). I like to hear the original voices and lyrics/lines. Plus I can't stand the bad synchronization of the lip movements .

At the time, there was an attempt to export the show to France with a French cast (there is an album but the show cannot be found today ) as the film was released at the same time, the choice was made to create this re-dubbing with the members of the French troupe.
