Exciting progress on the tax and retirement fund front! I see supplements more like groceries than fun. It’s so interesting to watch spending plans evolve over time, my own and those I watch on UA-cam. I’m still toying with starting my own channel this year, but struggling to allocate time for it. 😌 I’m always happy to see your videos. Have a great week!
Thank you!! Agreed, budgeting has taught me about my own values, which have shifted several times even in just the last year. I would love to see you start a channel! It can be time consuming but it's so fun and the community is awesome. 🥰
Glad you’re feeling better ! Sounds like good Schwab decision ! Still waiting to hear on our admendments for taxes … but the bill for the CPA is funded ! Enjoy the rest of your weekend !
I definitely would consider protein powder/etc to be groceries/wellness. Maybe make it it's completely own line for tracking purposes? Because fun money is for fun!!
Yes! I lump my "luxury" skincare and makeup in my fun money under personal care. Basic hygiene necessities go in household (necessities) but "optional" skincare upgrades go in fun money. But we all value things differently! I am finding that I value my supplements to the point where they are a non-negotiable and I'd rather cut from every other discretionary category before supplements. Leaning towards making that change in June!
Thanks! I already max out a Roth IRA, and HSA, and what I could contribute to a SEP each year. I'm transitioning to a solo 401k now to be able to contribute way more. ☺️
Shouldnt a grocery budget be a fixed limit category? It shouldn't expand to accommodate more items, but be a matter of what you can get within the set limit. Otherwise, my grocery budget would change weekly to accommodate anything I want to eat or drink that week. It may all be groceries, but the budget sets the limit. If the proteins change categories, then it seems like the limits for the categories should offset each other. Unless you just want a reason to allow lifestyle inflation. But good video!
Exactly, I am still relatively new to budgeting and learning my living costs and what my true expenses are. Since my supplement purchases happen only 2-3 times per year, I realized now that I prefer to set aside extra money for them as a true expense rather than eat up an entire month's worth of my grocery budget and have to roll with the punches. It was already money I was spending and covering - I'm just changing how I categorize it so that I can be more prepared for it. I used to set idealistic limits for groceries rather than realistic ones, and that's not a sustainable way to budget. Just learning and sharing my budgeting journey. :)

i have a “wellness” category where i categorize my supplements, protein powder, etc. it’s separate from my fun money category.
Yes I love that! I will probably be making a similar change in my June budget. ☺️

Thank you!! Fingers crossed for your amendment. 🤞 Hope you had a great weekend as well!

Agreed! I think I'll make that change in June and see how it feels!
Skincare and Makeup categories are coming soon in my budget! A protein category seems awesome, one less worry.

Heyyy you said churning 👀 I'm super into churning CCs (tho I've slowed down since having two kiddos) and some bank accounts 🎉💸
Yesssss we love free money 🤑🤑🤑
I have a 2017 Nissan that I bought brand new. She is currently at 270k miles and still going. ❤
This gives me hope!! 😂🤞
I would recommend considering a Roth IRA if you’re not retiring for another 20+ years
