Glad the new doctor is willing to take a deeper look and be open to different approaches to try to help Taika. Good job being Taika's advocate and pushing for something else besides just the standard response from his old doctor. Hopefully the new doctor can find something that works in Taika's best interest.
When I lived in Vegas, my 16 had autoimmune disease. Doctors couldn't help and just one drug after drug. But a doctor from LA comes once a month and helped my daughter. Now she is 28 and doing better :) keep asking questions and researching.
I completely understand and feel your relief of finding someone who suits your son's needs better. I pray and hope for better results for your son and for you guys as well. ❤️ Hang in there.
Love you three! My son started getting seizures at about 5 months old and honestly we have seen so many doctors and specialists and done tests after tests after tests including MRI’s, extensive genetic tests, etc. We went through everything with him and couldn’t find out why to this day. We had the same thing happen, where we were constantly adjusting meds and adding and taking away different meds until we found meds that worked for him. After we did that the seizures stopped at a little bit after he turned one with the proper meds. He is now 3 years old and we are taking away medications little by little, and so far so good! Our hope and plan along with his neurologist is for him to eventually be able to be off the meds completely! You two are doing great! Prayers for your family on this journey, it’s not an easy one, Taika is lucky to have such a caring and loving family who advocates for him!
Just a suggestion if you guys haven't tried genetic testing. Sometimes illnesses can be hidden behind genetics. If you and Geo test your genetics you can find illnesses that are caused by a mixture of genetics rather than a stand alone illness. This could definitely be diet related.
I always wondered if things like high caffeine intake (e.g. espresso or pre workout) can impact the baby's health if mother or father have high dosages leading up to conception. It would be interesting to know the full impact of it, as I love coffee (decaf just doesn't taste the same)
Happy with this new doctor, my grandson is 7 he's in the spectrum, he's on medication and even though it's not the same as Taika I can understand the feeling heard and connected to the doctor. My grandson's doctor treats him like a lab rat and not a little boy. It's frustrating. I'm happy to watch his journey to a healthy little man!
Currently doing my undergrad as a pre-dent student. Have a professor that stresses the importance of being a doctor that explores the grey areas of medicine compared to a doctor who thinks practicing medicine/healthcare is black and white. Good call on switching doctors and hope you guys can find a solution. Also, Taika being so quick to say the bad words was funny af. My 8 year old definitely enjoyed his first time saying a few bad words lol.
You guys are doing the right thing, trying to do the best for Taika. This new doctor seems attentive n understanding, hopefully things will work out even more for the better 🙏
When my husband had an aneurysm one of the first signs was him having a seizure. The doctors were like nothing is on the cat scan just come back if it happens again. That's when I learned that a lot of doctor's are reactive not preventative. I'm so glad you found someone willing to take the time and effort to find some better answers.
I have adhd and I wonder if maybe Taika does too? It can actually be very manageable especially with meds I’m SO grateful for my meds, they make me feel normal. But of course implementing the right tools to help day to day functioning matter too!
Wanted to share something really quick… on their podcast they talked about the way you react to a crazy situation happening in your life. Geo shared she has to tell herself “stop” to be able to stop her thoughts from getting the best of her. I thought that was amazing that someone can do that since I’m am very reactive person and I’m trying to change some of my ways for the best. Yesterday something was going in my life and where I normally would react I out of nowhere told myself out loud to stop and it fknd worked!!!!! I was so proud of myself for actually stopping and not escalating the situation with my emotions. ❤
Teaching hospitals get the cutting edge tools and diagnostics. There is a difference in MRI and CT scanners. They can focus and have multiple views/slices of an area to see a multitude of areas of concern. These help doctors in treating and surgical intervention. Best of luck Kwan's 😘
Bart & Geo- really glad the new doctor was able to calm your nerves. That is really important and sounds like the previous doctor lacked bedside manners. I hope the new course of treatments helps Taika and you two can find peace and relaxation. ❤
My dad when he was younger said he also would have seizures when he was little. He said one time he had one in the middle of the street They never knew what it was, classified it as epileptic seizures. But eventually grew out of them and never had one again. Hopefully everything goes well with Taika.
Its weird a fire arlarm in a Children's Hospital in a University doesnt have a safety latch. Glad yall found a doctor that fits your family. I had kidney issues as a kid and only one doctor cared to help and he changed my life.
This was such a refreshing video to watch! I’m glad you guys found better care for Taika! I was 15 years old when I first started to get tonic clonic seizures and I didn’t even know I was having them or when they would happen. They would happen when I’d wake up in the morning, I’d feel like I just woke up from the most terrible sleep w my body feeling exhausted and sore. The first year of trying to get them controlled is the hardest for everyone! Luckily I’ve got these seizures handled and they’re just a fun fact about me. I know it’ll be the same for Taika! Taikas such a strong boy 💪🏽
Glad to see everything is taking a positive change with a new doctor I have epilepsy myself I get focal focus seizures which aren’t normal and I know it feels for doctors to say just increase the meds or change the meds and it feels like they don’t care but after I vouched for myself I finally slowed down on seizures and now I don’t have that often so I hope taika gets better prayers and love for you guys❤️🙏🏻
Today especially patients really need someone to advocate for them & have providers that relate well w them. I have had to debate w medical staff through care of my loved ones & myself (and I even worked at a clinic). You guys are doing a great job navigating through all of this. Just a side note, be careful while recording in medical common areas like waiting rooms so you don't get yourself or the facility in any hot water regarding HIPAA regulations. Keep up the great job in Taika's care! Prayers for continued positive progress! 🙏💛
If they can't find anything wrong with him from MRI scans etc, maybe Taika's problem is that be gets so hyper that he "pumps himself up" into a seizure. I'm curious to see what his readings are when he goes into his "hulk mode" (an example being like when he was in the back of the car and he's fidgeting and rolling his eyes and screaming etc). Sometimes I'm like dude, calm down, a blood vessel is going to pop, so maybe you should try to teach him some sort of relaxation techniques to calm him down a bit.
I love your family ❤taika is so smart and always in a happy mood. I’m happy that y’all finally find a doctor who cares enough to go beyond what it’s expected. And to find new solutions for little taika. I don’t know a lot about seizures but try to not worry so much and just take things a step at a time. I’m sure he is going to be doing way better now with his new doctor:) bless y’all 🙏🏼 and keep up the great parenting ❤
its crazy cuz I as well im going through something similar with doctors. I live in moreno valley and the doctors that my dad deals with just keep telling us my dads brain is shrinking but give us no kind of solution and are just so bland. We got a second opinion at UCLA with a different neurologist and are waiting for results but its still such a forever wait process. UCLA is a trustworthy hospital for sure because in 98 my mom suffered a brain aneurism and we almost lost her in Downey Community Hospital but my dad had her transferred to UCLA and by Gods grace she was saved! Im praying for lil Taika and you guys as a family for some answers and a solution soon.
Impossible is possible, changing was good, as it sounds like your previous doctor wasn't emotionally invested, it seems she is a 9 to 5 doctor without heart, all the best for your son, take care family
Is it possible that Taika hit his head and could have developed a TBI? Sometimes they go undetected especially when they are young because kids fall or get hit and don’t speak up about it and the TBI develops over time. Gets gradually worse, There is a really good doctor in Costa Mesa. Amen Clinics. He specializes in brain activity and can help Taika because it seems like it could be a neurological issue. I hope for the best for all three of you. I’ve been watching you so long I feel like you’re my older cousin or something, I hope that little guy gets the help he needs.
hahahaha taika swearing sounds like my kids cause I can't help but cuss too when I'm so pissed. LOL. I'm glad you guys got a different doctor for Taika! Mothers always know best.
I got diagnosed with a benign tumor after years of migraines. I had “seizures” where I stayed conscious but had metallic taste in my mouth and weird sensations. An mri might be good, UCLA was great. It’s where I got my surgery too
Dont forget the doctors get a cut for prescribing certian drugs by the pharmaceutical companies, that should explain the strong push for drugs rather than therapy (electro magnetic, Physiothetrapy)

Docs like the first one don't have any empathy for the patient and are looking to squeeze every dollar out of you before they "refer" you to another doctor.
